Suspect by Robert Crais Book Summary

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Elvis Cole and Joe Pike series comes a thrilling novel featuring LAPD K-9 Officer Scott James and his German shepherd, Maggie.

Nine months ago, a shocking assault by unidentified men killed Scott James' partner, Stephanie, nearly killed him, and left him enraged, ashamed, and ready to explode. He is unfit for duty—until he meets his new partner.

Maggie is not doing so well, either. A German shepherd who survived two tours in Afghanistan sniffing explosives before losing her handler, her PTSD is as bad as Scott’s.

They are each other’s last chance. And they’re about to investigate the one case no one wants them to touch: identifying the men who murdered Stephanie. But what they find could ultimately break them both.

Great book!. Little slow start but got a lot better and exciting!

What a great book. I read it in one sitting....could not put it down!

Awesome!. So glad I read this book, it was fantastic! Listen to the reviews they usually are correct and that how I picked this book.

Harry Bosch boo.czaedr. W

Excellent. Robert Crais can do no wrong. Scott James and Maggie are fine additions to Crais' family of characters.

I want more. First book I read by this author and won't be the last...feel in love with the characters and I'm not even a dog person. Way way better than I was expecting.

Entertaining read!. I don't usually enjoy books that include thoughts from a canine perspective as the tendency is to make them too human. However, this time it was handled well. Crais always writes excellent detective novels and this one does not disappoint. The added canine character was a bonus!

Not an Elvis Cole novel - not even close. Well written and entertaining, but it is not the same caliber of the Elvis Cole series. I really wanted to like Scott and Maggie, but there was no connection for me.

Suspect. Read in 1 1/2 days !! Amazing and suspenseful Can't say enough good Things about this book

Good. Easy read!

suspect. I loved this pairing of two souls ruined by violence, healing through love and trust. A unique picture of a dog’s mind as it learns to love a new master and protect him at any cost.

Suspect. One of Crais' best. Using the dog as one perspective made the story really alive. Could not put the book! Would like to read another book with Scott and Maggie.

The Suspects. I fell with Maggie the first chapter and stayed in love with her the whole book! Thanks a great read!

Simple, yet RIVETING!. This is a fascinating story that will rip your heart and engulf your soul. Subsequent stories will be highly appreciated. Please, please. I want more!!!

Suspect. Great yarn. The emotional aspects get a bit overblown but the plot is a good one and the dog's-eye view is different and interesting.

Excellent read for all of us "Dogmen & women". Fast paced, action filled, and hard to let go!!! If you are a pack member, you WILL love this story!!!

Suspect. I've read all of Crias' books and this is his best I read it in one sitting. And I don't own dogs.

Great read. Fast paced. Riveting.. Wounded military K9 transitions to LAPD and hooks up with an equally wounded cop. They way they come together and work together is fascinating. Against so many odds and doubters they pull off an awesome investigation with the perfect finale. Crais hits another home run.

Suspect. This was a great read! Robert Crais never disappoints!

This is a great book. This is a great book and hope there will be a sequel. I found this book very interesting. I love animals and love how the mind works. Even tho this book is fiction and it may not be how it works in real life it's very heart warming. I'm not much of a reader and don't do it often but I read this book in less than a week. Normally it takes me a lot longer to read books. It could have done without using the lords name in vein which when it came to those I just tried not to read them. Overall it was a great book.

Wow!. I mean....wow! What a wonderful book. I like Crais' Elvis and Joe books, but he has really raised his game to a much higher level with Suspect. If someone doesn't make a movie out of this, they are missing out big time.

Suspect. Great read! Love this author!

Incredible!!. What a great read- highly recommend it to any fans of law enforcement or dog lovers!

Great Read!. This was such a great book! Very great on all levels...emotionally and mentally engagingly all the way. Hope to see another novel of Scott & Maggie

Suspect. Excellent! Kept me on the edge of my seat throughout! Especially good for anyone who loves dogs. Highly recommend!

Suspect. I have read and enjoyed many Robert Crais books, and he is among my favorite crime authors. The plight of the wounded and recovering cop could probably carry the story on its own. Adding Maggie the dog as a second protagonist and the also telling the story through her eyes adds a wonderful dimension to this book. If you are a fan of Crais and an animal over (like me), this book is a home run.

Different...in a good way. First time reading this author. Never quite read anything like this. A few lulls but overall flows smoothly. Easy to be a fan of both Scott and Maggie. Hope to see this duo reunited in a future book.

Beautifully written. I felt every piece of the action as tho I had lived it with Mags. If you download the sample of this book and read the first few pages, you will be hooked.

One of his best. The only book that ever made me cry.

Suspect. Absolutely the best book by Robert. I am a big, big fan of all his Cole books. But I too am a dog man and this was very well done. Believe it or not, I didn't want it to end. Please encourage him to write another Scott and Maggie book. Bob

Great read. Especially if you love dogs! Good plot and characters and great writing.

Awesome book. I hope there are subsequent Scott & Maggie books - this was fantastic!

Loved it!. Really enjoyed it!

Suspect. Well written and kept me reading until finished! Excellent!

Gripping. Could be my favorite of the many Crais novels I’ve read. I was totally engrossed in this story

Superb Novel. I felt like I was there. I could smell the dog and the sites and smells of LA. I hope his starts a series of books along he same theme. I'd buy em!

Suspect. The author fails to acknowledge his debt to Alexandra Horowitz, and her book Inside a Dog. Her research and information about dogs' taste and scent are easily recognizable, if not verbatim. Not enough to be plagiarism, but I am nervous when he fails to give credit to another writer....

Great!. Many Robert Crais fans will be reluctant to give this book a try when they see that neither Cole nor Pike are in the book. If you let their absense dissuade you from reading this book, you will be making a big mistake! I applaud Mr Crais for giving his recurring characters a vacation, and hope he will break new ground again soon.

Suspect. Robert Crais is a new author to me. This eBook was on sale. I read the description of the story. And, the many reviews. Most were positive. Was not disappointed! I am now a new fan. And, will be buying all of his books...one at a time. Suspense, mystery, and the special bond of man and his dog made this story great! German Shepherds have always been the best kind of dog. My family had one as a pet. She was intelligent, protective of all of the family, gave us fun and happy times and love! 🐰🐰🐰🐰🐰

Crais does it again. You do not have to be a dog lover to enjoy this page turner. But if you have some canine affection you will not want to miss it. Hope there are more coming. Highly (!) recommended.

Thanks for another terrific novel, Robert Crais!. I've read everything published by Robert Crais and have thoroughly enjoyed reading each novel, this one included. In fact, I've read most of them twice and a couple (like L.A. Requiem) three times. Even if I can't get the thrill of reading them for the first time again, I enjoy Robert Crais' voice and storytelling talent. Elvis Cole and Joe Pike are naturally my favorites but I love getting to know new characters like Scott James in Suspect. I have been a dog owner for years but learned things I had never heard before and I connected to Maggie as a character, as if she were human. When I finished reading this book, I gave my Chihuahua extra affection and love because I feel like I understand him more now. If I ever met Robert Crais I would thank him for that and for all the pleasure I've gotten through the years reading his first class writing!

Fast read. Read this in 2 days. I am a fan of Robert Crais, and as an owner of a rescue dog with PTSD, this book touched my heart. Wonderful book!

Suspect. I loved reading this book and didn't want it to be over! The special bond between Scott and Maggie was amazing, and provided such emotional depth to the story. Please, please, continue to write stories about this incredible duo and maybe Cowley as well?! My husband and I are delighted to have discovered you and this unforgettable book. Thank you. Victoria

Polarbear444. Good read on a cold Winter day, plot is well thought out, and the facts are well researched. I had a hard time relating with the main character, but the chapters that addressed the dogs thoughts are outstanding

Suspect. Great book ! And if you love dogs, a must read!

Nice departure. I love Elvis Cole and Joe Pike but what a great departure to something completely different! My first e-book as well. Great work!

Outstanding. Just an outstanding story, start to finish. The dog makes it very heartwarming.

I’m Upset. I enjoy Elvis Cole and Joe Pike books. This book clearly shows it’s an Elvis Cole and Joe Pike book, BUT, it’s not. Okay book about a guy and his police dog, but that’s not the point. The point is, I didn’t buy a book about a dog, but that’s what I got. Buyer beware on this false advertising! And, because of this deception, I’ll. Never buy another Robert Craise book again. Asta la vista!

Suspect. I loved this book. I've read it twice because I've now read all of Robert Crasis' books. Anxious for the next one. You do not have to be a dog lover to enjoy Maggie. All of your books are 5 stars and Cole and Pike are fantastic! Great work!

Absolutely wonderful!. I love Robert Crais' writing! This is a truly wonderful story, and I haven't cried so often (in a good way!) while reading a book, possibly ever. My dog had to keep getting up to see if I was okay. Very highly recommended, and I hope there will be more.
