Light..... Great writing. Formulaic plot, rich family, obviously evil, vs good cops. Demoniac villain vs moral folks.

Light of the World. I had forgotten how Burke is the master of words. This book makes see evil in an entirely new way. For example, there are gradations of evil. The world is not either good or evil.

Well Done Mr. Burke. I hope we get more Dave & Clete. Have read all 20 in the series.Enjoyed his including Molly and the girls.

Not worth reading. Started out well but I got so sick of the contrived dialog and plot that I stopped reading when I was 90% through and then deleted the book. A first for me. I am looking forward to all traces of this book fading from my memory.

Light of the World. Awesome book, as with every one of James Lee Burke's books, I have read them all, I could not put it down. I have started reading his older books for a second time, when I need my Burke fix..

Very disappointing. I have enjoyed previous Burke novels but I found nothing good or appealing about this one.

Light of the Workd. JLB is the most moving author with his word pictures that are built into my mind. My favorite, reading him over and over. Thank you for the pleasure.

The Light of the World. Another masterpiece from Mr Burke. His descriptions of the last best place are unsurpassed. He writes about the dark side of humanity and reminds us that we all harbor a seed of that darkness in our souls. How we cope with this darkness differentiates how our lives play out. Every book gets better!

Questions Unanswered?. Wonderful book but left several unanswered questions...namely who inherited all the Love billions? Wyatt Dixon was the only heir, but maybe that's the makings of a sequel.

Vivid and colorful - like a fine champagne, meant to be savored.. Artistic prose unparalleled- this is simply a vivid and elegant page turner that you will want to read slowly to savor.

$15 for a digital book?. Won't be buying. Will go to library instead.

Light of the World. I am enthralled every time I read a Burke novel. His mastery of the written word causes me to turn back to the previous page and read it again. I don't know how someone manages to paint the images he does; it is a gift, but I'm sure it is hard work. This may be his best in years, and I hope there will be many more. More should be made into movies, although translating his descriptions of scenery must be challenging for a screenwriter. Keep it up!

Not the usual. I have read everything that James Lee Burke has written. I had been eagerly anticipating this book. Unfortunately, it was just a so so Burke book. Most of the story was devoid of the wonderful imagery found in the other books in the Robicheaux series. The characters became trite reworkings of prior character studies. In this novel the locus for the adventure changed along with the names of the antagonists, but little else. Anecdotal references were scarce and repeated from earlier books. Gretchen and Alifair remained two dimensional, Clete repeated his standard mistakes, and Molly was relegated to obscurity and dismissed by Dave throughout the novel. It seemed like Burke was trying to ingratiate Gretchen and Alifair to us as readers of potential future novels. Even a run of the mill retread of Burke's earlier works is better than most other authors writings so I would say buy it when discounted and count it as a guilty pleasure.

Not his Usual. I am a great fan of Burke's books, but, this simply doesn't live up to his normal high level. His flowery prose goes to the extreme, and, his characters become so bogged down it leads to a boring read. It has taken hours to work through the book. I lay it down in frustration and go back to it thinking it will get better. Unfortunately, that never happens. Hopefully, this was an aberration.

Light of the world. Have read many James Lee Burke books--really enjoyed them, until this one. Waste of time--after reading half went to last chapter to end the misery Hokey dialogue, Clete and Dave have been analyzed to death. Should be classified as fantasy.

Light of the world. This is one of Burke's best. He keeps getting better with age.

It's a trip.. Have read them all, one of the best.
