The Eye of Minds (The Mortality Doctrine, Book One) by James Dashner Book Summary

The world is virtual, but the danger is real in book one of the bestselling Mortality Doctrine series, the next phenomenon from the author of the Maze Runner series, James Dashner.

Includes a sneak peek of The Fever Code, the highly-anticipated conclusion to the Maze Runner series—the novel that finally reveals how the maze was built!

The VirtNet offers total mind and body immersion, and the more hacking skills you have, the more fun it is. Why bother following the rules when it’s so easy to break them? But some rules were made for a reason. Some technology is too dangerous to fool with. And one gamer has been doing exactly that, with murderous results.
The government knows that to catch a hacker, you need a hacker. And they’ve been watching Michael. If he accepts their challenge, Michael will need to go off the VirtNet grid, to the back alleys and corners of the system human eyes have never seen—and it’s possible that the line between game and reality will be blurred forever.

The author who brought you the #1 New York Times bestselling MAZE RUNNER series and two #1 movies—The Maze Runner and The Scorch Trials—now brings you an electrifying adventure trilogy an edge-of-your-seat adventure that takes you into a world of hyperadvanced technology, cyber terrorists, and gaming beyond your wildest dreams . . . and your worst nightmares.

Praise for the Bestselling MORTALITY DOCTRINE series:

“Dashner takes full advantage of the Matrix-esque potential for asking ‘what is real.’” —io9.com

“Set in a world taken over by virtual reality gaming, the series perfectly capture[s] Dashner’s hallmarks for inventiveness, teen dialogue and an ability to add twists and turns like no other author.” —MTV.com

“A brilliant, visceral, gamified mash-up of The Matrix and Inception, guaranteed to thrill even the non-gaming crowd.” —Christian Science Monitor

I really enjoyed it. I really enjoyed the anime adaptation Sword Art Online. Props to getting it done so fast

I actually read it, so listen to this!. This book was soooo great! From page 1, I was hooked to the plot line, the characters, and all of the action. This book was great and I would recommend this book to anybody who liked The Maze Runner Series. But watch out for the plot twist! Oh, the plot twist. I'm still thinking about it even though I finished it yesterday. Can't wait for Book 2!

This book was fun. Lots of twists and thrills.

Nice. Nice

I haven't read it. Please can you tell me how was it and I know it little early. NO SPOLIER

Omg another book!. I never read this book book it's amazing

Realistic. This book was the best book I ever read. The words were so realistic and I could actually feel what's happening in the book. The words were fluent and exotic. James gave such a great description of what's happening. I wish the book could've lasted longer.

Read a teaser, must have!. I haven't read the whole thing yet, I read a teaser a friend got at a comic con, but even those few chapters got me so hooked! I can't wait to buy it, but I think maybe I'll get it in paper. Listening to it on a tech device might be a little too engrossing.

I cant wait!. I LOVED the maze runner series, so i cant wait to get my paws on this book!!!

Cool. They should make a movie of this book! Maze Runner, Hunger Games, Divergent-why not The Mortality Doctrine?

Great Book!!!. I love this book the second one is even better. I can't wait for the third one coming this fall!!!!

Oh boy where to begin?. So don’t get me wrong the book is fun and very creative but this is one book genre that James Dashner should have never written—he suffers from a common error in YA writing: random stuff happening to create excitement, and it’s so easy to do when the world is virtual like this. I understand why a lot of people like this book, especially those who don’t read a lot, but for those of you more diehard readers, just get it from a library because: 1. Characters are mostly super boring 2. The romance is 98% out of left field 3. Half the plot makes no sense 4. In trying to create tension, Dashner ends many chapters with dark phrases that have plenty of meaning to the characters but none to us, the reader, often making it feel like silly and unearned suspense 5. We hardly get a chance in the book’s non-virtual world to care about it being saved 6. Too short—imagine if this book had been 25% longer with actual character development and world building? 7. Often choppy writing style (less choppy than maze runner, but still) 8. Characters just know how to do stuff cuz they can 9. Did I mention random things happening just cuz? 10. Mini Chapters within chapters seem to only make the book shorter, since Dashner likes to end each chapter with a bang (which is good) and with mini-chapters this effect only triples and everything feels very go-go-go-go! Is there good? Oh yeah—like i said, it’s fun, and James knows how to keep you interested using action, but the story feels like it just needed one or two good revamps to make it shine, because I know what James was trying to do, but hardly explored at all. Are there epic moments in the book? Oh yeah—but it’s pretty much just chapter 1 and the last chapter. Good twist there and stuff. Ultimately, this book is not the masterpiece people say it is—I’m really surprised about the amount of people who think this book is “perfect”—which I can get (this book is short and sweet, and there is a lot of good in that aspect of it), but I think some not all readers these days don’t really know what good literature is, because it’s these kinds of books they’re exposed to 100% of the time. Liking this book doesn’t make you dumb, btw—it’s just irritating for me to see genuine masterpieces being raised on the same level as this screenplay-wanna-be-novel.

<3. OMG I CAN'T WAIT TO RED IT JAMES DASHNER IS ONE OF MY FAV AUTHORS ALONG WITH SUZANNE COLLINS

Amazing.. Without a doubt the best book I have ever read. Forget Divergent; get THIS! It will hook you until the very end and you will be biting your nails waiting for the next installment. My favorite book of ALL TIME.

Really good. I read this book a few year back and still like it toady. At first I thought it was an original idea, but then I read that it was based off of the anime Sword Art Online. I saw the anime, it wasn’t the best but the idea was good. Overall I believe this book did being stuck in a video game better than SAO ever could. Its still a good read even though the others have already been realeased, I want to read the,

Wow. This book grips you immediately and keeps you hooked through the end. It almost feels wrong giving it only 4 stars, but some parts were very predictable, especially a major piece of the plot. Still good and leaves your mind twisted in knots, just like the maze runner series. I'd recommend this.,

It gets better with every page turn. If you're a fan of The Maze Runner series, you'll love this new series from James Dashner. I picked up this read hoping it would be like the novel; "Ready Player One." And I wasn't let down.

Amazing!. Amazing book, please hurry writing the next book in the series. I loved the Maze Runner Series and love all your books. PS: You're an amazing author!!!

Amazing. It looked great. TMR series was AMAZING. So whenever I finished The Kill Order I read the "sample" for this book and it looks great!!

I love it. I love it a lot I would suggest that you get it

:o. Left me speechless much like the Maze Runner series did!! You have another winner!

Review. I haven't read it

Amazing Book!. This was one of the best books I've ever read. The ending gave me a feeling I don't know how to describe but it made me want to know what would happen to the characters. I reccomend this book to anyone!!!

BEST BOOK EVER!¡!¡!¡!. James dashner has done it again with this incredible installment in this series. Fans of the 'Percy Jackson', 'The maze runner', and 'Harry potter' series will be blown away by this amazing book. James Dashner is a rising star in literature. Do yourself a favor and GET THIS BOOK!!

Best book ever!. This is by far the best book I have ever read. I started reading the book a week ago and finished it the same day. Unbelievably amazing!!

I didn't think anything could top " the Maze Runner". The Maze Runner trilogy is the first trilogy I've ever read all the way through and it was satisfying to say the least. But starting this book I was instantly pulled in by the "friendship" the three gamers had and it kept getting better ... But from beginning to end this book had my mind and shook it until my mind became awesomer. Lol

Forever_Fandoms. This looks good. Plus it comes out on my birthday!!

Blew my mind.. So good. So good. The ending is insane. Can't wait for the next installment.

Disappointing. Read this one because Maze Runner was so awesome. But it doesn't compare: plot unfolds too simply and the characters aren't well developed. It's just not as gripping as MR, though the series has promise. Maybe the next one will be better.

Bbbbbbbbbb. Bbbbb

Great book. Wow. I love how this book makes you wonder right along with the characters about everything going on. How real they make the game world seem is amazing. Had me hooked from the first page. Five stars forever!!

💥 You blew my mind.. James Dashner, if you read this, I just want to say that The Maze Runner and the Eye of Minds changed my perspective on the world and you became my favorite author. I cried so hard when my favorite characters in TMR died and laughed hysterically at some of Bryson's best lines. I read The Rule of Thoughts and can't wait for The Game of Lives to come this fall. I can't put into words how much emotion your books bring out of me. They have so much suspense that makes want to keep turning the pages. I could read your books all day. I love Michael, Sarah, and Bryson's strong friendship in this book and how much they care about each other. I love all of your characters because there is something different to know about each one of them. You have an amazing way with how you create a plot. You are the best. If you keep writing, I'll keep reading.

Best book ever. This is one of the best books I've ever read. The Maze Runner series was AWSOME and this was even better! James Patterson is a AWSOME author and I can't wait to read book 2!

Super awsome like the maze runner!. It was awsome because it included video games one of my favorite things and was creepy in the spooked chapter it gave me nightmares! :3

Very good. so, i never rate a five stars, but this book was incredibly good. I didn't think anything could top The Maze Runner but it did and it had an unexpected twist ending. The characters were well made and same with the setting. I recommend you read it if you don't like it at the beginning, then just stay with it trust me😀

Missing points. I liked the book when I finally got to the end. But my goodness. It took me 3 months to read 300 pages. It was such a slow burn. I really feel like either I didn’t catch it, or it wasn’t detailed, but I didn’t know anything about the main characters. What we’re their personalities like, what we’re they feeling. Just felt like it wasn’t as detailed as I’m used to. Beyond all that, that last 100 pages or so really caught me for a loop. So, overall, good job. Good book. I don’t feel connected enough to the characters to know if I will continue to read the rest of the series.
