How the Light Gets In by Louise Penny Book Summary

How the Light Gets In is the ninth Chief Inspector Gamache Novel from #1 New York Times bestselling author Louise Penny.

"There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in." —Leonard Cohen

Christmas is approaching, and in Québec it's a time of dazzling snowfalls, bright lights, and gatherings with friends in front of blazing hearths. But shadows are falling on the usually festive season for Chief Inspector Armand Gamache. Most of his best agents have left the Homicide Department, his old friend and lieutenant Jean-Guy Beauvoir hasn't spoken to him in months, and hostile forces are lining up against him. When Gamache receives a message from Myrna Landers that a longtime friend has failed to arrive for Christmas in the village of Three Pines, he welcomes the chance to get away from the city. Mystified by Myrna's reluctance to reveal her friend's name, Gamache soon discovers the missing woman was once one of the most famous people not just in North America, but in the world, and now goes unrecognized by virtually everyone except the mad, brilliant poet Ruth Zardo.

As events come to a head, Gamache is drawn ever deeper into the world of Three Pines. Increasingly, he is not only investigating the disappearance of Myrna's friend but also seeking a safe place for himself and his still-loyal colleagues. Is there peace to be found even in Three Pines, and at what cost to Gamache and the people he holds dear?

How the Light Gets In. It was really good book but the bad language on that book. "How the Light Gets In" take place in Paris they speak an English accent just the movie "Mr. Bean's Holiday" (2007) and "Rush Hour 3" (2007), it's most likely in that book and the book takes place in Paris.

How The Light Gets In. Absolutely wonderful book. I have loved everyone in this series. The setting, the characters, and the plots have been addictive. I want very much for there to be another book, and then another...at least until I find Three Pines.

Light. Excellent

How The light gets in. Beautiful, spiritual, writing style that uses the Canadian culture And characters to weave A story that is other worldly, but still believable. I want to go to 3 pines to escape to a different life....even just for a little while.

How the Light Gets In. One of the best books I've ever read. I have never read any of her books before, but will now read every one of them.

A Really Fantastic Story!. Louise Penny is one of my new discoveries and a new favorite. Every page in this book was a joy to read and highly recommend it :)

A beautiful read. Suspense and enjoyment.. Louise Penny's best.

How the Light Gets In. I laughed, I cried, I thoroughly enjoyed this--and am ready for the next! Well DONE Louis.

So lovely!. Truly, one of the best books I have ever read. I'm so glad to have discovered thus author! Looking forward to more!

Three Pines delights again. Louise Penny had me holding my breath to the very end...these characters from the Surete and Three Pines love each other enough to do anything to preserve their beautiful lives. Each visit to the little village always leaves me wanting more time there. Thank you, Louise.

It is finished....?. Oh, the peace to have joined my friends of the Surete and Three Pines again. The joy of human potential and love. Please come back soon, I miss you already.

Best one yet. I've read all the Chief Inspector Gamache series and this is the best one to date. Very smartly written. Exciting and fast paced plot filled with fantastic twists. Really an outstanding book.

How the light gets in. Thank you, it was wonderfully done. Could you please send me coordinates of three pines?

How the light gets in. A riveting well written book. Can't wait for the next one.

Riveting. Each book gets better and better. Mi found my mind and eyes racing through the chapters. When things got tense I felt like I was right there with Gamache. I hope these books never come to an end!

Absolutely riveting. Wonderful book.. This is the latest in the series and brings together many of the plot points from previous novels. The action was intense and suspenseful. Gamache is an endearing, and well written character, although all the characters are interesting. I loved this book. I can't wait for the next one, I miss Gamache already!

How the Light Gets In. Louise Penny paints such lovely pictures with words. This is the best one so far, but then I have said that about all of her books. I tried not to read it too fast, like a kid trying to make a sundae last. If you have not discovered this great series, I envy you the treat you have waiting for you.

How the Light Gets In. My husband and I loved the first few books in this series: Wonderful characters, cozy village, mystery to solve. The most recent books have slowly become dark and sad, and not fun any more. I skipped through the last half of this book. Such a skilled author, but she got off the track, at least my track.

How The Light Gets In. I did not tie the 1st chapters together and laid it aside. Tried it again and it is excellent. I will look for her other books.

Best book ever! I laughed and cried. Hope this wasn't the last Gamache adventure.. Like the others in the series, I couldn't put it down.

The best. Her best book……so far I read this one first, then went back to book 1. I just finished reading it again. Best book so far !

Great read. Full of twists and turns. Real sense of the community coming together to help the Inspector who’s always taken care of them. Love how Louise Penny proudly injects some Canadian history and sites. Couldn’t put the book down! ❤️🇨🇦

How the Light Gets In. Boring, monotonous, tedious. I have read all Louise Penny's books, and I must say this one is not in the same class. Ganache only gives glimpse of his determined all-knowing assurances. Jean-Guy is less than a go-for. Clare is an erratic, insufferable, self centered spoiled brat. Only Ruth is her comforting reliable self. Too bad, after the last book I anticipated something more, much more.

How the Light Gets In. Wonderful! Outstanding novel! Best yet! Penny crafts and weaves a heart-stopping story. It is a non-stop roller coaster ride. Leave yourself a day just to read.......you'll need it! It ties up many loose ends. Where will Gamache go from here?

I want to live in Three Pines. I love these books, and this latest offering is no exception. Brilliant work.

Amazing. Such a satisfying end to this narrative arc. I loved this book.

Now the light gets in. Five plus plus plus. I’ve found a new love. If you love literature and mysteries and have a sense of humour, you will thoroughly enjoy this book!

Review. How the Light gets in.... 4:10am What I'm about to say is such a hackneyed cliche that I'm embarrassed to write it. Superb. Couldn't it down until I finished. Marilyn Lightstone
