The Countess Book Reviews
The Countess by Claire Delacroix Book Summary
Driven from her late husband's estate, Countess Eglantine de Crevy fled to wildest Scotland to claim a castle, only to find a ruin—and a clan chieftain standing guard. Kinbeath was hers, she declared, vowing to rebuild the manor and launch a bride quest so her daughters could marry for love. But Duncan MacLaren had devised a bride quest of his own, swearing to win the land—and the fiery countess—in a war of sweet seduction…
Eglantine vowed she would never be captured by this barbarian. Yet Duncan awakened passions she had never known before. She promised to fight him with every weapon at her command, even as he vowed to woo her for a year and a day—and make her his pagan bride.
Each thought Kinbeath the prize most desired, a prize to be won at any price. Until passion turned to love, and the chieftain found himself fighting for the heart and the hand of the woman he was born to possess.

The Countess. I enjoyed this story. The main characters were Duncan and Eglantine were strong and fearless. Their story is a great love and honor tale. The book kept me engrossed to the end and longing for more at the end! Copy gifted by the Publisher in exchange for an honest review
A Rich Story. An intriguing plot, with many twists and turns, strong protagonists having great strength of character, and a story rich with detailed descriptions, make "The Countess" an amazingly wonderful read. As the story develops, the plot becomes even more interesting, and the characters more believable and empathetic. The descriptions of their daily activities and lives felt very historically accurate. I really enjoyed this one.
The Countess. Eglantine, at 26 years old, feels that her opportunity for a marriage filled with love and respect is not to be. Two times married and two times widowed, her first husband was 30 years her senior and her second a charming but worthless rogue. When she discovers that her second husband had gambled away their estate she knew she had no choice but to flee to the only property left – a castle in the wilds of Scotland. She travels with her stepdaughter from her first marriage along with her own 2 daughters. When she finally arrives she finds the castle a ruin and in the possession of a highland clan with chieftain Duncan MacLaren standing guard. Although firmly convinced that Eglantine is in the wrong, Duncan cannot help but be impressed with her strength to travel so far and her determination to take care of her daughters and her people first no matter the cost to her. He tricks her into a hand fast marriage of a year and a day and vows to woo and win her love. Somewhat implausible plot with problems suddenly working themselves out – it was not the best sample of Claire Delacroix’ craft but enjoyable nevertheless. “Copy gifted by the Publisher in exchange for an honest review.”

The Countess. Claire Delacroix The Countess. 7/10 Scottish medieval romance. A French woman, Eglantine, flees to Scotland to save her 14 year old daughter from being forced to marry a horrid old man.
The Countress. Less than average historical novel. Eglantine leaves France after the death of her rogue husband who wagered away the title to their home, which actually belonged to her brother. This left her young daughter by her first marriage to an unkind elderly noble still promised to another unpleasant elderly, so she runs to Scotland to claim a small piece of land there but instead meets Duncan and his men who dispute her claim. To avoid bloodshed, Duncan plans to wed Eglantine, but he wants her heart although she no longer trusts men at all.
An intriguing historical romance. An intriguing historical romance A noblewoman, through circumstances of recent widowhood, escapes to the wilds of Scotland to protect her daughter from a potentially bad arranged marriage and finds her HEA.
