The Gauguin Connection Book Reviews
The Gauguin Connection by Estelle Ryan Book Summary
Murdered artists. Masterful forgeries. Art crime at its worst.
World renowned expert in nonverbal communication, Doctor Genevieve Lenard investigates insurance claims. Not murder. So when her boss asks her to help his acerbic friend look into the death of a young artist, her autistic mind rebels against the change.
A straightforward murder investigation quickly turns into a quagmire of stolen Eurocorps weapons, a money-laundering charity, forged art and high-ranking EU officials abusing their power. As if this isn't enough, she reluctantly teams up with an international thief whose knowledge of the art world proves invaluable.
Forced out of her predictable routines, safe environment and limited social interaction, Genevieve is thrown into being part of a team in a race to stop a ruthless killer from targeting more artists.

Captivating!. A true page turner, with enough detail to keep you mesmerized until the very end and wanting more, I have purchased the entire series! I highly recommend this book to anyone who is touched by the autism spectrum and to those of us on the spectrum as well!
Absorbing. I could not stop reading this well woven story with engaging characters. Well done Ms. Ryan!
Excellent. No other way to describe it. The plot, the characters, the writing, the story development… right down to the ending. Excellent excellent excellent
Outstanding!. I'm a fan now! I love this book! The story is unique and totally believable. The more I read the more I related to the main character, Dr. Lenard, and felt like the author understood what it's like to have a non-verbal LD. It was both a relief and amazing. To finally read how someone felt, how they got so focused time slipped away and the consequences for loosing track of reality. But it also shows the rewards, the monumental accomplishments when one follows trails of clues, and figures out a puzzle, and I love puzzles and mysteries, a hallmark of non-verbal LD. Thank you, thank you, Estelle Ryan!
Great read. Loved the characters and the story. I want to read more from this author.
The Gauguin Connection.. Excellent story. Having OCD tendencies myself, or, alphabetically, CDO, I identified with the main character. Plenty of clue gathering, emotional conflict, suspense, murder and thievery, with the bad being good and the good being bad. My kind of mystery, all the way!
Vaughan Connection. Very good. A bit repetitive/reduntitive in spots. Enjoyed.
Gave a small clue to this first book in the series.. What an amazing array of characters. Could not put this book down.
Pretty good. I love the characters and the idea and the group dynamics. I really enjoyed the book, but I was disappointed by the use of foul language. I thought the frequent use of the f word was crude and unnecessary, even if there are people who speak that way. Feeling torn about continuing the series.
The Gauguin Connection. A very enjoyable book! I was so happy to read a novel where the main characters weren't described as beautiful and handsome and perfect on every other page! The storyline is a murder/mystery, and the plot is believable. I would consider it a "light"read, because it wasn't focused on sex, bad language and violence. It was about the mystery and watching the main character and her unexpected group of companions slowly solve the case. The main character has a form of autism and is a face reader which also makes it interesting . The author does a great job of tying everything together. There was enough closure at the end of the story to feel satisfied, yet left you wanting to spend more time with this group of characters. I really enjoyed reading this book and just purchased the second in the series.
Fantastic. Filled with intrigue. One of the most engaging novels I have ever read. It kept my interest the entire way through. The characters and attention to detail are exceptional. I highly recommend this book.
The gaugun connection. Enjoyed the book until author began using expletives. Stopped reading.
Gauguin connection by Estelle Ryan. The best book I’ve read in a long time. Sophisticated with so many twists that even I couldn’t determine the outcome. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
Gauguin Connection. Overall a good book. First 100 pages or so, where very hard to get into, and most were a waste and did not really add to the overall story. Book really picked up with the introduction of Colin and Vinny. Both added so much to the story.
The Gauguin Connection. Wow! I just finished reading this book. I literally could not put it down, so I finished it in one reading!! Exciting, informative, thrilling, filled with usual and well fleshed out characters…great story line…I could goon and on! The main character, an autistic high-functioning woman, helps bring down a nefarious criminal who has ordered multiple murders in the art world. Estelle Ryan, the author, captures the persona of the autistic investigator so well that I fell she must have close association with someone on this spectrum. Well done, Ms. Ryan! I look forward to reading more books in this series.
The Gauguin Connection. It was refreshing to have a subject, of which, I’m not very familiar and expand my knowledge. The main character is a high functioning autistic young women. I was provided with some insight into how this can affect not only the person, but their family and friends. Extremely well-written, exciting and unpredictable. I loved it! I will definitely be reading more from this author.
I simply loved this book!. Ms. Ryan has created a cast of characters that are both believable and charming. Getting to read this book for FREE is just too much to believe. Ms. Ryan knows how to weavea story. Congratulations on creating a wonderful lead character with an adorable supporting cast.
A real page turner. Darn it. Sat up all night. Couldn't put it down. Highly recommended!!
Too hard to swallow. The protagonist looks forward to being revisited by the criminal who broke into her apartment to discuss her current investigation.Still wondering why he couldn't have opted for using the front door or meeting her in a cafe. She supposedly has a condition similar to the one suffered by the insufferable Temperance Brennan of Bones and yet she embraces the insecurity having a strange man breaking into her sacrosanct apartment. I could not get past this deficiency of plot and character and the book offered no other enticements such as good prose.
Great read!. Loved the doctor and her odd habits. Plot was fast paced and easy to follow. I figured out the villain early, but the story was interesting enough to keep me engaged. On to book 2!
The Gauguin Connection. This was honestly one of the best books I have ever read. I was completely caught up in the story and entertained by all the human interactions. I am definitely looking forward to reading the other books in the series. Thank you!
The Gauguin connection. Great story and great characters...a study in human nature!
Pretty good.. Maybe not the best mystery, but quite good, especially for a first novel. Interesting characters, insightful. Looking forward to the next book.
Great read. Engrossing. Draws you in so it’s hard to put the book down. Intriguing characters that make you want to know better.
Absolutely a great read !. This was without a doubt one of the better modern mystery books I've read in awhile. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this read and could hardly put it down. Great storyline and very interesting characters. I highly recommend it. !
5 Star. Started out slowly enough that I almost deleted it. Several dozen pages into and I couldn't put it down.
Excellent!. Loved this book! Loved the characters too! Believable and stayed on course, flowed nicely, kept me intrigued. Many facets of art, personalities, and humanity. Looking forward to reading more books from Estelle Ryan. Thank you for offering a peek into what you offer as a wonderful writer for free!
The Gauguin Connection. Great!
Mostly Average. I liked the book immediately, but as the pages wore on it became a bit if an endurance festival for two reasons. 1) the complexity of the case wore me down. 2) the predictable and largely trite conversations between characters felt contrived too many times. The nicknames used, and the characters using them were almost comic book in quality. For example, one man, even after gaining the confidence of he heroine kept breaking in her apartment instead of learning to use the door. Also, the huge bodyguard was a domestic diva doing babysitting, chef level cooking and meticulous cleaning, all the while speaking like a child. The main detective was always messy and grumpy, yet he was supposed to be the best in Europe. That said, Jen's naivety from her autism was both humorous and instructional. No one could be that brilliant, and the people I know who are autistic are not as open to others as she, but it seems plausible most of the time and highlights the nature of the condition quiet well. Here the writer earns 5 stars. The book stalled for me at the 3/4 point because yet another world's greatest computer hacker entered. She was another outlier, like everyone in the hook to this point. I felt like the use of superlative qualities got old. It might have been nice to see someone who was more like...normal, not unusually exceptional. I liked the plot, the genre and the setting so I kept reading to the end...which I, the average guy, predicted at about the half way point.
Great plot - good pacing. I liked the set up of the crime and pacing with which the case was resolved. I truly did not like the character of Colin. It appeared like we were supposed to like him but I found their relationship very co—dependent. He manipulated her and used her disability against her. His arrogant disregard for others I found distracting. Most of the other characters were well rounded with both good and bad but traits. All in all a good story.
The Gauguin Connection. I really enjoyed reading this book. The heroine is so strong and eccentric, and solves the mystery at a good pace. The supporting characters are unusual, yet fit in well. Elaine Lundy
Gauguin connection. Interesting concept to read body language for a complete analysis of character in a short time frame.
The gauguin connection. From the first page it moves right along with fast moving dialogue. This is the best book I have read since Untouched. I can’t wait to start the next one of the Connection series.
Great read. The Gauguin Connection has me hooked. I'm looking forward to the next two.
The Gaugin Connection. Exciting and easily readable. Characters one comes to care about and hopes to read more about in future interactions. Turns the potential handicap of the main character into one of her greatest assets. Creates hope for the future of how people might treat each other in the real world. The characters grow and evolve over the course of the story. Much fun.
Hard to put down.... I enjoyed The Gaugin Connection immensely. I found all of the characters intriguing and multi dimensional. The story itself is compelling and engrossing. Ms. Ryan writes with a deft hand and clever mind. Kudos. I am looking forward to continuing her series with Dr. Genevieve Lenard and cohorts.
Really Excellent. Good characters and excellent plot. Wow!
Wonderful. This is the best book I've read in quite a while, and I read a LOT. The story line is complicated and the relationship between the players is amazing. I loved the growth of all the characters as the story progressed. Can't wait to read the next one in the series.
Loved it. I could not put it down, this was a incredible story and intriguing characters. I am hooked can't wait to read the rest.
Not long enough!. I love Genevieve and I love these stories!
The Gauguin Connection. Really enjoyed reading this book. characters were great; did not get off course with a lot of sex and the profanity was bearable.
Enjoyable!. I don't know much about autism so my discomfort with a few of the MC's reactions seemed discordant. Especially when she went totally out because a non-violent stranger appeared in her apartment yet was able to keep it together when she was attacked by 4 masked men shortly thereafter. I thoroughly enjoyed the premise of the mystery and the way the story unfolded. The author has a smooth style that pulls the reader in deeper with each revelation and I am looking forward to reading more in this series.
Excellent!. Very well written, with believable characters, great dialog, and an engaging plot. I couldn't put it down!
Amazing!. A definite must read! I couldn't put it down and cannot wait to start the next book.
Excellent!. Fell in love with the motley crew of characters while the plot kept me completely engaged in a setting that I really enjoy and can immerse myself in. I feel like I can see the art in front of me, drink coffee at Genevieve’s flat & watch the body language videos in the viewing room. These are smart stories, nicely cultured, written with class and finesse, with humor and a touch of romance. Though it is rare for me to keep going after the first free book, I’ve already bought & read the second one, and plan to continue the entire series.

Fabulous read. Loved it. Could not put it down. I love Mozart and regularly use his music help me 'think'. Will get all the other books in the series. well done
Fantastic!!. One if the best series ever, if you start be prepared to become hooked!
A Masterpiece!. I loved this book! It was so unusual from a lot of thrillers, with a neuro-diverse heroine, a mysterious art thief and a whole cast of diverse and interesting characters, I couldn’t put it down and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series!
THe Gauguin Connection. Gripping story with amazing insight into autism.
Umm maybe I am not intelligent enough for this book. Sorry but I got totally bored with this book and couldn’t finish it. The characters were not believable, the plot was totally confusing. I am a Neurodiversity champion but I couldn’t relate to the character with high functioning autism. Very strange convoluted plot. Unbelievable characters and to be honest I totally lost interest by page 410 and gave up . I can’t recommend this book
Superb. I could not wait to get to the conclusion of this book, yet all the while, not wanting it to end. This fantastic story has real depth and intrigue with excellent characters and great details.
More than interesting. A thriller often with large gaps between action. It's a book that majors on personality and the different perspective that comes with autism. The action supported the characters . Usually it's action replacing characters. Ultimately that becomes boring. Not with this book. Well written with this unusual perspective kept you hooked. I never wanted to put the book down.

Should be made into a movie. Loved this book. Loved the style of writing. Loved the storyline and characters. It pulled you in from the start. Can’t wait to read the next book.
Intelligently written and totally absorbing!. LOVED this book- what a find! As a parent of a high- functioning adult son, Estelles' references to Genevieves behavioural traits were spot on. I found this book whilst on holiday, started reading at 10pm, finished at 4 pm the following day- could not put it down( husband not too thrilled though)
The Gauguin Connection. First book i have read concerning espionage and murder.i really enjoyed the whole story fast moving funny absolutely a fine story .thank you Barbara Kofoed.
Intriguing and enjoyable. This is my first time reading the work of Estelle Ryan, it won’t be my last. The plot and storyline of this novel was intriguing and engaging. I love the characters that Ryan has created. Genevieve is a real treasure. I certainly loved and appreciated the touches of humour, simply delightful. This is a wonderful story, I recommend it to anyone.

Read them all!. Loved these books! Witty and charming characters with the perfect amount of teasing banter wrapped in great story lines! Waiting on the next book!😉
Too much detail. Don't explain, show. Interesting concept that I hoped would give some insight into an autistic's world - but the things that irritate Genevieve were repeated over and over and over.
The Gauguin Connection. Totally enjoyable murder mystery! What a wonderful combination of humour, logic, practical thinking! Through Jenny's eyes it's a fresh look at the world of spies and egos that become part of the the "hunt" for the long sought after criminal elements.
Thank goodness it was free. I couldn't finish this awful, quirk-laden story.
Read the entire series. Loved these books, couldn't put them down. Liked the characters and how they evolved in each story.
Will be buying the series.. I could not put this book down and expect that the next books in the series will be just as well written. Read this book!
Well written. I really enjoyed reading this one; it has all the right angles for a good book. I guess i would have expected a more detailed final, but seeing this is 1st book from many ( involving almost the same characters ) i suppose i will find out more in the next ones.🙂
