Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell Book Summary

#1 New York Times bestselling author!

In Rainbow Rowell's Fangirl, Cath is a Simon Snow fan. Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan, but for Cath, being a fan is her life-and she's really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it's what got them through their mother leaving.

Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.

Cath's sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can't let go. She doesn't want to.

Now that they're going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn't want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She's got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words . . . And she can't stop worrying about her dad, who's loving and fragile and has never really been alone.

For Cath, the question is: Can she do this? Can she make it without Wren holding her hand? Is she ready to start living her own life? And does she even want to move on if it means leaving Simon Snow behind?

Oh my dear god. This is literally the best book ever!!! This is where I got my screen name and now I want to start writing fanfics too!! Thank you Rainbow Rowell!!!!😍😻

Waste of time. I found this book to be dull and lacking action. So many loose ends and abrupt exits of characters. I truly hated the FanFic excerpts of Baz and Simon. I tried to commit to reading them but ened up just skimming those large parts, and completely skipping them at the end of the chapters…found myself saying “Oh my god, enough already!”. So much more could have been done with this story but it was just lacking overall in entertainment.

Crazy about fangirl!😁😁😁. This book is so amazing I couldn't put it down! I'm a grown 21 year old and I'm in love with this book! I love how they have Harry Potter fan fiction and how you can relate to the characters. And I'm supper excited for the spin off book! Carry on needs to come out ASAP! Overall I highly recommend it! I think it's relatable with not only teens but adults too! ☺️

Loved it!. I never write reviews, but this book just kept me going. I couldn't put it down.

Fantastic!. This book is amazing! Really hoping for a sequel!

Fangirl is great!!. Fan girl is a wonderful book that I recommend. It's worth a read!

Love This Book Ahhhh. I love this book❤️❤️. It is really easy to connect with the characters and I have read it twice. I also love how this book shows it is good to be u and have someone love u for it. I hope this review helped u and I encourage u to read it and u will not regret it!!

Amazing Book.. I was totally not expecting this book to be this good but I'm completely in love with it and will be reading it again. I loved the characters SO much & I related to them a lot. A+ book.

Good but..... I liked the story but really could have done without the breaks in the story for the Baz and Simon stories. I liked the actual story and would have preferred more time spent on their interactions, thoughts and experiences. I'm less interested in reading her next book "Carry On" after reading the excerpts in Fangirl.

The Fandom World. As a former fangirl to multiple series, this novel was a homerun for me. Between reading/writing fan fiction and living in a fantasy world, this character was very relatable. A great read that I have reread multiple times already.

Love and obsession. I fell deep in love with each individual character each so significant. It depressed me to see the book ending as I turned every page. I loved it!

Very relatable. "Fangirl" is such a relatable book. Usually, when I read fanfic I am judgy, unlike Kath. This book was amazing. - Book Reviews

Great book, great time.. I couldn't stop myself from reading it, I wanted to read it every time I got the chance to and it was really entertaining + sent me to two different worlds at the time, this is the first book I read from Rainbow and I think I'm in love with her work.

Keep on reading over an over. When I read some of the beginning of the book, I knew I would instantly LOVE this book!! This was one of those one nighter books(I couldn't stop reading) Now I'm planning on reading it again for the 3rd time while reading,"Eleanor and Park,"(It's also a very good book made by the same author) It's such a amazing book and it'll never get old. I'm a FANGIRL for FANGIRL!!

A Book Inside A Book. Rainbow Rowell is the first author I've ever seen to write two books in one, let me start with that. And the way she did it, Gosh, it made me wish the Simon Snow books were real. If she only actually wrote them all. I think you will find, if you're reading this, that you're actually a fangirl. All of us are. And this book show the modern nerdy girl reality better than anyone could ever do it. Even John Green. - Don't get me wrong, I love his stuff, way more than anyone else's. But John gets more of the general nerdiness, Rainbow Rowell is way more specific, and if you ARE a fangirl and a bookworm, this book will be like an expose of your own reality. More than that, if you write, you will get to see all your emotions and feelings just laying there, right in front of you. Things that you may even have never realized. So, yes. If any of these things mean something to you, I guarantee, you'll love it. Just like a dream, the book of a life time, you choose. But read it. You won't regret it.

Nothing will ever be quite like this beautiful story. Amazing read and so relatable for introverts and gets what it means to truly love a book series. the way rainbow rowell wrote the characters made them seem so real.

Eh. It was okay.

5 perfect stars!!!. I completely loved Fangirl! It was touching, sweet, and laugh out loud funny. Rainbow Rowell's writing is superb and she has become one of my favorite authors because she creates such a fantastic variety of realistic characters that anyone can relate to. I love all their quirks, insecurities, and that they are perfectly imperfect. I didn't know very much about the world of fan fiction prior to reading this book, but I can definitely relate to the energy, excitement, and obsession in a fandom. It was fascinating to see how much it both helped and consumed Cath's life. Although I enjoyed the glimpses into Simon Snow's world and plan to read Carry On, I did find the snippets at the end of the chapters a little distracting. This is probably because I was eager to get back to Cath (and of course, Levi!) Oh, Levi. From his receding hairline/crazy widow's peak to his love of range managment, I became totally smitten. He's adorably sweet and yes, he makes some mistakes, but that makes things all the more perfect at the end. I enjoyed Levi and Cath individually as characters and loved them together. Levi's easygoing additude and Cath's introverted nature are the perfect complement to each other. Honestly, I could read about Cath and Levi forever. PLEASE CAN THIS BE A THING?! There are so many wonderful things I can say about the characters in this book. Rainbow Rowell's thoughtful portrayal of Cath's bipolar father and his struggles to navigate this new world without his daughter's at home was especially touching. Cath also struggles emotionally with her mother who abandoned the family and with Wren, her twin sister who has decided that college will be the moment to remake herself without Cath. One of my favorite characters though, was Cath's roommate, Reagan. She provides some levity to the story and her sarcastic and snarky attitude are hilarious! Even Professor Piper and Nick are well developed and play key roles in helping Cath come into her own. Everyone just felt so real and honest. No one is perfect in this book and that's what makes it so memorable and wonderful. After reading and loving both Eleanor & Park and Fangirl, Rainbow Rowell is definitely one of my auto-buy authors!

Fangirl. The absolute best book ever! I finished it in2 days, because it was that good!😊❤️

IN. LOVE.. I felt as if this book connected deeply to me. The shyness, fanfiction, confusing situations, being deserted by friends (though mine isn't my twin)....I can relate to that in a huge way. And Cath is....imperfect, but perfect at the same time. This story is one of love between sisters, surviving the trials of change, and forgiveness (oh, and throw some fangirling over Simon Snow and Baz in there, too) I am in LOVE with this book. I checked it out from my local library, and then it was so good I read it in three hours without stopping. Then, it was so amazing I reread it like, 20 times until it was due. By that point, I loved it so much I broke down and bought it. A totally awesome read for anyone looking to connect with their fangirl-ish side, it's totally worth the money and time.

The best book ever. Words can't describe how much I loved this story!!! This was the best story I ever read❤️❤️

Incredible. I read this book due to a friend lending me a few of her personal novels and I loved it. This book is long, but every single word contributed to the story and never was there a moment when I wanted to put the book down. If you're debating whether or not to purchase this book, just do it. It is an incredible read if you liked Eleanor & Park and/or All The Bright Places.

Fascinating prose and great story. I enjoy this book completely. The author did an excellent job on the conflicts and dialogue. Each character is unique in its own way. I love it.

Amazing. Amazing

Snooze fest. Slow and boring.. Avoid!

AMAZING. I highly recommend this to any book nerd or any person at all, I just finished reading that last few chapters on my phone but it’s done now..and idk how to feel. I have that hard cover of Fangirl, but I don’t have it right now but I needed to know what happened so I finished it on my phone. I regret ittttt so much. It’s just different..

💙. Im reading this book in my ELA class and I love it!!!

best book i've read in a while. maybe ever.. wow... i have so many wonderful things to say about this book, but i'll talk about the reason i loved it most. cath & levi. they were the cutest, sweetest, most realistic beautiful couple i have ever read of or seen in a movie or show. i love them so much more than any couple in anything else! they are such a perfect example of the love life that i, as well as about everyone else, want to have. they couldn't be more perfect. i was a little bored by the fanfic & simon snow parts, but i will still read carry on. so excited to now read eleanor & park, as well as rainbow's other novels. fantastic book. i loved it, but (p.s.) was kind of disappointed by the ending. like the very end. i wish it could of ended with cath & levi and wrapped up about her fiction-writing essay! we never truly got to know what it was about, although we assume it's about her mother or levi or both. i really would love if rainbow released that as a separate novel, as well as write a sequel to fangirl to give us more cath & levi! overall, loved this book more than life itself. it gives me hope and happiness. xoxo

Awesome.. So I probably bought this book when it had just came out. Truthfully I got bored the first few chapters then I happened to grab the book again and began reading it...again. I'm happy I didn't hide it anywhere I wouldn't have found it. Thank goodness I went back to it. And yes...I have the actually hard book not the ebook.

It was okay.. Despite these good reviews, I didn't really like it. I thought I could relate more, being a fangirl myself, but I feel like it was more about her college life overall. The book was pretty cool to begin with, but I just got bored and it wasn't what I hoped for/expected.

Insightful and a realistic view into a young woman’s mind. Love love love this book, it’s sweet and cute and all the things I didn’t think it would be. Though it’s a heavier weight, reading through it was a piece of cake.

Fangirl. This book was super good! It was that type of book that you got obsessed with. I read it in about 3 days. I loved! I could totally relate to it! Love Rainbow Rowell! Her books are FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!

Must read for anyone who grew up in fandoms. Reading this book was like reading a novelization of parts of my own life. Anyone who grew up in fandom culture should read it. You’ll find yourself just as invested in the fictional life of Simon and Baz as you are in the lives of the characters in the book itself.

I love it!. This book really captures the life of a fangirl! It is real, deep, and romantic. Rainbow Rowell does an excellent job in creating complex characters. I'm excited to see what she has planned next!

Amazing. This is book is more than incredible, I love it and I won't stop loving it

What Happened??. I actually loved the story, but I feel like it ended without an actual ending? Like, ok, no epilogue? No happily ever after? I feel unsatisfied and like someone snatched my favorite chocolate bar right out of my hand and now I’m here... 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ if you’re going to finish a book, actually finish it. This is just annoying.

favorite book. This book is currently my favorite book! I understand what it's like to just be obsessed with something, though I've never written fan fiction. I could really relate with the characters and I just really loved a lot of them! This book deserves a Five Star Rating!

Very boring!. I thought this book would be great because Eleanor and Park was just amazing. I was wrong, I don't recommend this book, I felt like it was written by a 14/15 year old.

❤️❤️. I loved the book! I can't believe the ending ended so suddenly though. I feel like its unfinished. Like a part of me needs to know what happens next.

Loved it ❤️. It was an amazing book and I enjoyed reading it. I loved everything about it and I loved the characters. I really recommend it! :3 |‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾‾| | TOTALLY AWESOME <3 | |____________________| (\__/) || (•ㅅ•) || /   づ

LOVE. I absolutely loved Fangirl! I could really relate to Cath and I loved the view into college. Oh yeah and Levi is perfect, that's a given. :)

Amazing. Loved it! It was super relatable!! Such a good book, totally recommend it!! :)

Captures the College Experience. I'm not sure if this is YA or not, but I'm an adult, probably Rainbow Rowell's age, and I loved this book. The characters weren't perfect, but they weren't unloveable jerks either. And I love the fact that she's now written a book (Carryon) in the series that the "fangirl" wrote fanfic about. Very Meta!

Amazing!. This book was so great. I’ve wanted to read it for so long and I finally cracked and bought the digital copy and I’m so glad that I did. I really related to Cath’s character and the way she liked to write her Simon Snow stories and stay holed up in her room and I feel like I share her skepticism of things and the way that she feels things so intensely. I think this book was really sweet though and I loved the relationships that were built between the characters and how the plot line was easy and eventful all at the same time. It’s a great read and it made my nerdy little heart soar. I would recommend it! It’s the absolute cutest.

Fangirling over Fangirl. I consider myself a fangirl about artists, any type from performers to writers and everything in between and this book is my new obsession! I finished reading it at 3 in the morning the day one of my 10 page college essays was due I was in a trance with this book it had me hooked I couldn't put it down. I came home from school just to give the hard copy to one of my friends to read because it is a must! I loved it and I can't stop thinking about it!

Wow. I love this book

❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️. I loved it!

Favorite book. Rainbow Rowell is such a great author and this book was so well written. I give her an 100/10 and all respect! : )

YEAHHH. OK I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS BOOK😩👊cath is a v relatable protag and the characters are genuine. but i literally hated the fanfic parts🧍🏼‍♂️

My Opinion. I think that I can relate to Cath. I stay up late writing my own fanfics and obsess about others updates. I think that writing is a way to express our feelings about certain things. To make your own world if that doesn't sound crazy.

MORE. I need a part 2!!! I don't know how I am going to get over this book if I don't get more :(

I love it!!. I love this book, although I have one major problem. The ending broke me! So many cliffhangers!!

Fangirl. A sweet read with a protagonist who is better than she perceives herself to be--feels genuine and flawed, feels real. Can't wait to read more from Rainbow Rowell!

Finally something that speaks to the fandom geeks. I read this book as a part of a book club and I loved it. I was totally hooked and I thought it was fun. I really think that the Simon Snow fandom and fan fiction is supposed to parallel Harry Potter because it is quite similar. As a Harry Potter fan who's active in the fandom, it made Fangirl super relatable. I think this book is perfect for anyone who is going through any changes in their lives, likes stories about embracing the inner geek, and a little love story on the side.

Best. Book. Ever.. I loved this book soooooooosooooosooo much I give it a 96% it looses 4% because I wanted it to be longer
