Hazardous Duty by W. E. B. Griffin & William E. Butterworth IV Book Summary

The Presidential Agent adventures return in the most harrowing novel yet in the #1 New York Times–bestselling series.

M exican drug cartels are shooting up the streets of Laredo and El Paso. Somali pirates are holding three U.S. tankers for ransom. The President is fed up and has what he thinks is a pretty bright idea—to get hold of Colonel Charley Castillo and his merry band and put them on the case. Unfortunately, that will be difficult. Everybody knows that the President hates Castillo’s guts, has just had him forcibly retired from the military, and now Castillo’s men are scattered far and wide, many of them in hiding. There are also whispers that the President himself is unstable—the word “nutcake” has been mentioned.

How will it all play out? No one knows for sure, but for Castillo and company, only one thing is definite: It will be hazardous duty.

Don't wast your money or time. If you need something to put you to sleep this book is for you.

Hazardous Duty. Agree with other reviews - total rehash of whole series - and done so tongue in cheek it was not funny or engaging. Doesn't even seem to be by the author, just an editor....very disappointed.

So disappointing. Not sure why I finished this book. It never held my attention. I kept waiting for it to begin. I actually feel like I should get my money back. So far from the usual great read.

Hazardous duty. Quite unexpected from a serious spook such as W E B Griffin. Lighthearted and shot from the hip. The use of understated satire is very well written. I saw the image of most of our politicians in the words of Mr. Griffin. But in portraying the spooks as nonchalant and devil may care you only succeeded in portraying the majority correctly. How else can one do that kind of work. If you took it seriously it drove you nuts

Hazardous Duty. Huge fan of Author and series. I hope Mr. Griffin and Mr. Butterworth are done making money of us by putting out the absolute worst book ever. It was so bad I won't buy the next one based on where this one left off because I can't take something that bad. SHAME ON YOU MR. GRIFFIN AND SHAME ON YOU MR BUTTERWORTH! can't imagine how many fans you FOOLED into buying this book to line your pockets. Won't happen again. SIGNED: YOUR FORMER FAN

Plotted during a drunken poker party. Fans of W.E.B. Griffin are used to forgiving the author for continuity errors and for liking a real world story so much it is recast and added to multiple series. This book reads like a farce. We are beaten to death with 'Svetlana nicknamed Sweaty' and the other cliches that fill the Presidential Agent series. A quick synopsis: nothing happens. We bring in lookalike characters, throw the Russian Orthodox Church in exile under the bus, and give a mention to every character ever associated with the series. This reads like it was written as a joke or a last blank you to a publisher that needed a last book to complete a contract that the writer wanted out of. Throughout the book I kept thinking that this was done in a hurry while on a bender, and the author's note at the end confirms that this was their homage to M*A*S*H. Can we have a real book next time? Or spend a weekend updating Brotherhood to correct the continuity errors, or Matt Payne's earlier books removing the heavy 70s references, and decide if it is Felter or McCoy that get shot up on a N Korean beach? They stole my money on this one, don't let them steal yours.

Review of hazardous duty.. Extremely disappointed, regardless of afterward explanation. Seems this was written for a cheap paycheck. I have read and appreciate all of the previous griffin books, but this one bombed out. Biggest hazard was reading to the end. Sorry, but this one was way beneath you. Former active duty marine

Hazardous Duty. I am a long time fan of WEB Griffith. While simple , his work is entertaining. However I struggled with this one. The explanation at the end partially excuses the sophomoric humor. ( but I agree with the political statement made)

Hazardous Duty. This book is obviously a commercial endeavor trading on past books. It is dumb! All the conversations are vacuous. The characters have suddenly become stupid. Forcing rehashes of past books simply to fill pages. There is a lot of non-events that never gain any momentum. The POTUS is portrayed as a bumbling fool and his sycophant press secretary is an idiot. Was very disappointed in this book. I will be wary of Mr Griffin & Mr Butterworth’s future attempts after this debacle….

WEB Griffin's latest. I did not finish the book before this one because the quality was so bad. I gave the author another chance. What a waste of time and money. No more! Kwickdraw

Hazardous Duty. His worst book by far. A rehash of a previous book; I would ask for my money back if I thought I could get it.

Hazardous Duty. I feel compelled to ask for my money back. What a piece of garbage and a total joke. As a big fan of your work, I am completely shocked to read what I just did about one of my favorite series. Who has hijacked your name and is producing this sub-standard material??? Sad thing is that it has now become a trend, the last three books released have merited, at best a 1 star rating. Disappointed in SoFla.

Complex plot line that made no sense. This book is one of the worst books I have read including the books of the summer reading list of when I was in high school over forty year’s ago. This is a waste of ten dollars I would have rather given the ten dollars to a homeless person it would have been better spent that way. The plot line had to many characters in it and followed no rhyme or reason. The title of this book is Hazardous Duty. Where was the hazardous duty at there was none they traveled to and from places with no intrigue or anything in the form of excitement. I like W.E.B Griffin books I have several complete series of his and reread them often I am glad I did not read this one first or I would not have read any of his other books.

Hazardous Duty. I’ve read all the military novels WEB Griffin wrote. And enjoyed them. This one however, jumped the shark. It was tough for even the biggest fan to finish.

Horrible ending to the series. Don’t bother with this book. It’s no where near as good as others in the series and was a VERY disappointing way to end the series. I love WEB Griffin’s storytelling, but there was no evidence of his guiding hand in this story by another author. Worse than a waste of time.

Not worth the time. The last two books of the presidential agent series had been very disappointing. It lack of a compelling storyline and everything seem to be an afterthought. Don't waste your time and money on this book, I sure wish I didn't.

Senility?. Sergi Murov wants to get Sweaty, Demitri & Carlos together?!? Covert Wariors Chapter XI [TWO] Janos was torturing Sergi with a telescoping sap to find out where Colonel Ferris was located ... The CIA offered $125 Million for the Tupelov 934A ... Montevale suggested Carlos use the bearer bond like intruments to fund OOA activities ... the Ninjas used Madsens not Kalashnikov's - Come on, Really!!!!

Continued Rehash. I'm sick with the flu and was happy to find the new Presidential Agent novel out. Now I'm sick and confused after reading it. The last two books have been nothing but rehashes of the previous books. I feel like all I learned was a knowledge of how to move multiple people around the world using planes, boats, and trucks! If you want to work logistics for UPS this is a great read....otherwise wait on the latest from Coes or Thor.

Hazardous Duty. If I wanted comedy or satire would have read Austin Powers!

Hazardous duty. Sophomoric does disrespect to the others in the series

Hazardous Duty. The worst waste of time and money I have endured in a long time. It is a boring recap of events in previous books and the attempt at humor falls flat.

Hazardous Duty. A go nowhere novel. Unimaginative at best. Totally disappointed, barely finished this book. Should have stopped at the seventh book in the series. Save your money.

The W.E.B. Brand is it deep trouble. Hazardous Duty is a ridiculous, inane, and disappointing failure. After decades of reading great W.E.B. adventure with smart characters, along comes this dopey book that tries and fails miserably to be cute & funny. The once heroic characters of the Presidential Agent series are suddenly just toying with antagonists in the White House who are no more than hillbilly buffoons and butt-kissers that present a greater danger to each other than to the heroes whose lives and adventures were the reason I bought the book. I warn any W.E.B. fan - avoid this book like the plague. It will destroy your respect and image of W.E.B. If the torch has been passed to the next generation, the flame obviously went out in the process. I gave it one star only because most of the words in the book were spelled correctly.

Terrible. He lost his touch, this was really, really bad

Unfulfilling. Too over the top, not what I was expecting from this series. A rare disapointment

Not very good. I’m a fan of the various WEB Griffin series but this final book just plays out the series. Not much action or intrigue. Just a silly story and ending.

Hazardous Duty. Can I get my money back! Less than a zero. Unbelievable that they put their name on it. No plot, no characters, just a rehash of old books. I have read every other book in the series and loved them. This stinks!! They should be ashamed! Hazardous reading.

Hazardous Duty. Too much chaos. Overwhelming to try and keep up. Very disappointed.

7 Words Describe This Book. What a waste of time and money!

Aweful - don't waste your time or money. More than the first half of the book is tedious back story.... a rehashing of the story line from the previous novels in the series...which seems to be repeated over and over again as each new character is introduced and somehow has to be brought up to speed. If you have read his prior novels you will find this a total waste of your time. If you haven't you will likely have no desire to do so after enduring the poor writing and constant repetition. The story line... If there really is one, is certainly not that of an action thriller. It isn't until the epilogue that it is explained that this was an attempt at comedy - M*A*S*H goes to the White House. It is only if I put the novel in that perspective that I might give it one star. This probably explains why ratings have been disabled for this title!

Hazardous Duty. I thought the last book in this series was bad. This one is even worse! Horrible over effected writing in a language that has not been used since the 1950's. What started a an exciting new series has devolved into a sloppy set of books that entertain no one.

Hazardous Duty. What a disappointment that Griffin would even let his name be associated with this totally stupid book!

Hazardous duty. Unexpected, and fantastic, thank you very much for fun reading,I have a read all your books with great pleasure.

Humor not Thriller. This is a spoof, a comedy. Not a CG Castillo action/thriller. It's so whacked out that it means the end of the series of Castillo books. Not a bad spoof job, I just wish I knew I was spending $14.99 on Griffin and his son's run at being funny. It's an OK read, just not what I thought or really wanted to read for that matter.

Refund. Every customer deserves a refund. I purchased the last book. You don't need to re-tell that story and waste half of this book. Incredibly disappointed.

Hazardous Duty. Silly and pompous. Not near as good as the WEB only earlier ones.

Hazardous Duty. Thought the book was terrible. Have read all of the author's previous books and enjoyed them. Bought this one with great anticipation and was very disappointed. When an author chooses to change his style of writing he should do so by changing the title so as not to mislead his loyal readers. If I ever buy another of Griffen's books again I will make sure it is the author who writes a serious story and not one trying to be a clown.

Terrible book. I love this series, and I'll try to pretend this book never happened. Half the book is a tedious recital of what's already happened in the series. The other half is an attempt at humor (?) that is completely devoid of wit and intelligence. The author throws in an afterword that basically explains he wasn't even trying to write a good book. As for the action... Oh, there isn't any. I'm going to try to pretend this book never happened, as I really enjoyed earlier installments.

Hazardous reading. I am a Griffin fan but this was the worst book I've read in a long time.

Waste of Time. This is quite possibly the biggest disappointment I've had reading a book. I have been cheated by the author and will never buy another book by him again.

Good read. Funny as hell! Thanks I needed that!

This is a silly book.. I've never felt compelled to write a review but if I could get my money back for having to read this book I'd be grateful. It won't happen, I know, so no worries. I have enjoyed all the books in this series but this one deserves to have the author's "disclaimer" at the beginning, not the end, of the book. I felt like an idiot for reading the whole thing. The phrase false advertising comes to mind. If you're planning on reading this, start at the end with the authors explanation/motivation for writing it first, and prepare for reading a silly book. Bad form.

na. boring,forced myself to finish

Hazardous Duty. This is a big joke on readers, right? Awful book.

Hazardous Dury. My first W.E.B. novel. I found it, well read, at the VA JACC in Pensacola, FL. Not knowing what to expect, I gave it a chance, found it funny and in many ways related to my own experience with certain officers and non coms who spent less time serving and more time behaving like untouchable horn-dogs. Nonetheless, it got me started on reading other WEB novels, Starting with the Honor series, right on through the Aviator series and into the Corps series...and that can’t be a bad thing. Read it for what it is, a tongue in cheek look at some of the people in the service of an out of control president.

WOFTAM. WOFTAM - Waste OF Time And Money - this book regurgitates previous story lines and is a bungled attempt at humor. Save your time and money for a better read.

Liked all books in this series but this one had too much repetition. Of previous books. Hardly any new content. A real disappointment

Terrible. After reading many of his earlier books and thoroughly enjoying them this was a total dud. Instead of action and intrigue i wasted my time with a stupid story. Very disappointed, would not recommend at all.

Good Lord! Really!. This book was absolutely horrible. Usually I can't put his books down but this one I couldn't pick up. Horribly written. No content. Don't waste your money.

A horrible read.. This series started out really well and the following books have all been pretty good, even though there is a lot of repetition of the back story. This book, however, was boring, plotless, silly to the point of being mind numbing and just plain boring. Based on the previous books in the series I kept reading in hopes it would get better. It never did.

Hazardous Duty. This was a disappointment, a waste of time and money. The characters went from believable to ridiculous. The President was especially so. I was expecting more and a reasonable conclusion to this series. This was a total ripoff.

Read the earlier books. I really like this author. His later books in this series are terrible. Read his earlier works of his different series.
