A role model and the ultimate relatable motivator. This audiobook, like her previous one, has Mrs. Obama’s soothing, calm, wisdom coming through my iPad at the perfect pitch. I’m in love with the lessons, her wit, her intelligent mind, and the way she does just about everything. This book will not disappoint. I bought the audiobook and the hard copy so that I could hear my sister speaking to me as though we were having tea together discussing the woes of the world and how we can possibly emerge from such deeply saddened places. Thank you my forever First Lady. Thank you for being the light for so many of us. Thank you, for being the light for me.

Perfect!. What a remarkable woman! This book does not disappoint. Simply a marvelous and inspiring read. Thank you to Ms. Obama for all she and her husband have given to all of us- especially decency in a time that morality can seem non existent.

Life Lessons From a Life Winner. Congratulations, Mrs. Obama, on another well-written book. While I’m not exactly sure that I’d call this a second memoir, what I am sure of is that the wealth of experience you have accumulated in your impressive life, channeled into advice for readers of all ages, from all walks of life, at different levels of life is something that will stick with me; especially now that I am embarking on a journey that will hopefully see me live out my days with my life partner. Thank you for this gem.

Lies. They should rename it “the book of lies.“

Sounds interesting but…. … too much boilerplate.

Gems & Best Practices. I had no intention of reading this book because I already knew the message, you have light, don’t dim it, blah blah blah. Don’t get me wrong, I love my forever First Lady, but self help ain’t my jam. However this book has been mildly interesting and Mrs. Obama has definitely dropped or referenced some gems. The first gem that struck me in particular, was a personal story from the amazing Toni Morrison, who provided an example of starting with kindness. In a world that will tear you down at all cost, we need to be kinder to ourselves, because who is else is going to do it. Morrison’s story discussed her being a “critical mother”which in her mind (and most mothers) is equated caring. Morrison explains our children can rarely interpret that criticism as care. Which makes total sense, all they see is the arched eyebrow and pursed lips. I related to this story immediately. I have middle schoolers and if you remember middle school is literally one of the most critical times in your life, you are judged for everything! And with that understanding this book and Morrison’s story reminded me to address my kiddos first with kindness and not add to their judgement filled day by greeting them with criticism, rather show them I am glad to see them. Especially now, that I am no longer greeted by those elementary school smiles and hugs. I share this to say Mrs. Obama’s book is more than self help, but really a sharing of best practices as we move through all facets of life in an ever changing world, and I appreciated the book more than I thought I would. In her last chapter, which she focuses on the phrase “when they go low, we go high,” she leaves us with this final gem, “you need to choose your fights, be careful with your feelings, and think about your long term goals,” which I think is great logic that can be applied to all aspects of life work, kids, marriage, and you. If that is what “going high” means I will stay in the clouds with you Mrs. Obama!

I hate you. You ruined my Childhood

Nice. Easy read. Good to have her perspective. Probably good book for younger demographic, not older people.

An admirable book by a remarkable human being.. I’ve always admired Michelle Obama, but this is the first book of hers I’ve read. I was pleasantly surprised at how relatable her story is, even though it is so different from my own. The book unfolds many parts of her personal life that are so relevant and so inspiring. It is a beautifully told account of her journey through childhood, adulthood, marriage, parenting, career, family, and friendship. Her story is of a remarkable woman who takes no credit for how special she is but instead expresses gratitude for the people who helped her succeed.

Love her wisdom!. Michelle has such wonderful advice and insights. Reading her books is like therapy for me. I’m always so impressed with her parents and their guidance. She gives me strength.

HOPE. The book is eye opening.

Inspirational words. I am invigorated and inspired through Michelle’s words. This is the first book I have read where the author describes the world I live in with traumatic brain injury. Michelle understands an altered lifestyle necessary when health issues demand daily changes and difficult choices made to simply live.

Wonderful. The book was wonderful; a reminder of what is good in the world. What is disturbing are the comments some of the reviewers made about this human being. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
