And then there’s a valuable list of Londoners who once spied for Napoleon that Sedgewick was said to be transporting to Charles, Lord Jarvis, the Regent’s powerful cousin who also happens to be Sebastian’s own father-in-law.
The deeper Sebastian delves into Sedgewick’s life, the more he learns about the Major’s many secrets and the list of people who could have wanted him dead grows even longer. Soon others connected to Sedgewick begin to die strange, brutal deaths and more evidence emerges that links Alexi to the crimes. Certain that Gibson will be implicated alongside his lover, Sebastian finds himself in a desperate race against time to stop the killings and save his friends from the terror of the gallows.

Getting through this was drudgery.. I found this book tedious, the characterizations superficial, and the prose uninspired. Though I’m an avid fan of historical fiction and of mysteries I don’t think I’ll be venturing into any more of Harris’s work. I think she’s a better historian than writer.
Couldn’t put it down. Who Cries for the Lost is another great read by C. S. Harris. Ms Harris has an absolutely wonderful way of weaving mystery, murder, friendship, romance, family, war, intrigue, characters and history into a book that is so good and so interesting that it feels as if the reader is a part of the story. Sebastian and Hero have become loving trusting partners who work seamlessly solving crimes, parenting their children and caring about each other. I love Sebastian, wow, brilliant, just brilliant. The way he is able to put all the pieces together is quite spectacular. Still wish more descriptive intimate scenes between Sebastian and Hero. Looking forward to the next book.
Fascinating History. I’m very disappointed because I finished and know I’ll w wait another year for her next. I love thé research she does as well as writing exciting stories.
