Rose and the Thistle Book Reviews
Rose and the Thistle by Laura Frantz Book Summary
In 1715, Lady Blythe Hedley's father is declared an enemy of the British crown because of his Jacobite sympathies, forcing her to flee her home in northern England. Secreted to the tower of Wedderburn Castle in Scotland, Lady Blythe awaits who will ultimately be crowned king. But in a house with seven sons and numerous servants, her presence soon becomes known.
No sooner has Everard Hume lost his father, Lord Wedderburn, than Lady Hedley arrives with the clothes on her back and her mistress in tow. He has his own problems--a volatile brother with dangerous political leanings, an estate to manage, and a very young brother in need of comfort and direction in the wake of losing his father. It would be best for everyone if he could send this misfit heiress on her way as soon as possible.
Drawn into a whirlwind of intrigue, shifting alliances, and ambitions, Lady Blythe must be careful whom she trusts. Her fortune, her future, and her very life are at stake. Those who appear to be adversaries may turn out to be allies--and those who pretend friendship may be enemies.

Very Intriguing. Every book I read from this author I love. How can it be more interesting when reading about the castles and the hiding away an heiress? I love the little details and can see the castles through the eyes of the author. The characters feel so real to me and I love reading this time period. Lady Blythe is in grave danger when she is sent to Lord Wedderburnâs castle and seemingly at the wrong time too. Her godfather has passed away and the new Lord Wedderburn has his hands full and doesnât want the responsibility of Lady Blythe. Oh it gets really good now. Who does she trust now? She doesnât know who are enemies or who her friends are. So much intrigue and things that need to be settled. I havenât forgotten the romance either. I loved reading about Everard & Blytheâs romantic interest in each other too. All in all this book will keep you reading late into the night. I received a copy from the author and publisher but was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Utterly beautiful⊠Scottish romance at its best!. The Rose and the Thistle is a tale penned by an author with an unparalleled talent for sweeping historical romance that not only enchants her readers, but also points to our Lord and Savior. I am left in wonderment at the artistry of this Scottish romance which also serves as a love letter to Scotland and Scottish heritage. This story is truly and utterly a masterful work of art. The authorâs use of imagery to paint a picture with words made me feel like I was back in Scotland again, yet this time a little over 300 years in the past. Everard is a hero of the highest order, and his English rose Blythe is a heroine of beauty, strength, and faith. The romance of this story is breathtaking and utterly beautiful, and the latter half of this tale brings action, passion, and inseparable devotion as the Jacobite Rebellion of 1715 reaches its climax. I cannot sing higher praises of this novel, and cannot adequately put into words how much I adored it. The Rose and the Thistle is an absolutely magnificent fairytale of faith, love, and devotion steeped in the history and beauty of Scotland, and it could not possibly get any better than that! I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher for review purposes. My thoughts are completely my own.
Supremely satisfying!. I am again undone by Ms. Frantzâs powerful storytelling and the rich detail and prose lent to this slow-burn romance set in the Scottish lowlands. Everything about this book was phenomenal! Blytheâs gentle, yet bold, love and loyalty, along with her personality of patient persistence made for a character that I found to be highly admirable. And Everardâs ability to take command in a tough situation, while still remaining compassionate, considerate and wise, was an immediate draw towards him for me. Plus, who could resist that Scottish brogue?! I laughed aloud, nearly cried, felt my heart swell with the fullness of understanding, was nearly lifted from my seat by the beauty of it all and ached with sympathy for the wrongs imposed. The Rose and the Thistle (donât you just LOVE that title?!) had everything in it that I couldâve wanted. Supremely satisfying! Five stars!
