Only the Dead Book Reviews
Only the Dead by Jack Carr Book Summary
Long-buried secrets. A devastating global conspiracy. And only one man who can stop it: Navy SEAL James Reece. From the “seriously good” (Lee Child) #1 New York Times bestselling author, Jack Carr.
In 1980, a freshman congressman was gunned down in Rhode Island, sending shockwaves through Washington that are still reverberating over four decades later.
Now, with the world on the brink of war and a weakened United States facing rampant inflation, political division, and shocking assassinations, a secret cabal of global elites is ready to assume control. And with the world’s most dangerous man locked in solitary confinement, the conspirators believe the final obstacle to complete domination has been eliminated. They’re wrong.
From the firms of Wall Street to the corridors of power in Washington, DC, and Moscow, secrets from the past have the uncanny ability to rise to the surface in the present.
With the odds stacked against him, James Reece is on a mission generations in the making. Unfortunately for his enemies, the former SEAL is not concerned with odds. He is on the warpath. And when James Reece picks up his tomahawk and sniper rifle, no one is out of range.
From “a master novelist” (Ballistic Magazine), “quintessential hero James Reece is exactly what’s needed in today’s chaotic political milieu” (K.J. Howe, author of Skyjack).

Great read. I’ve read the whole series and loved every book. Can’t wait for more by Jack Carr!
Disappointed. I have LOVED all of the other Jack Carr books, but this one is a significant downgrade. This is the first book that felt like the speedy distribution is costly to the book…it feels rushed and not well put together compared to all of the others. And the deep dive into politics is hard to read. Some of it is good; some of it is misguided. But there is way, way too much of it. All of the political stuff is amplified because the hero is stuck doing nothing in a dark cell for easily a quarter of the book. So all politics and no action. Not why I read Jack Carr. Maybe he should run for politics and take a break from writing. Get that out of his system and come back to doing what he does best when he’s ready again.
Best Carr Book Yet. This tally ties everything together in the Reece series! Excellent and thought provocative read. Well done!
Outstanding!!. Best one yet. Cant wait for the next installment.
Only getting better. Carr is creeping up on the Thor’s and Silva’s of the genre as top dog! Love to see a Reece Harvath pairing!
Always enjoyable. Always like these books. This one was a little different as it went down the rabbit hole of conspiracy theories which made it a bit convoluted to follow. But I enjoy the character and the author.
A seriously good time. I love this series and this books does the series so much good! Buy it, read it, and prepare yourselves because the the ride is a seriously good time.
Another Hit. Loved it. Awesome as usual from Jack Carr.
Missing Something. First off. I love me some Jack Carr and James Reece. Favorite author and favorite character. I don’t want to end up on his podcast for writing a bad review. But… As of now. This is my least favorite Reece adventure. Doesn’t mean it was bad it just means it isn’t as good as the previous books in my opinion. This book is the longest in the series but still feels like it’s missing something. Still loved it. You should definitely read it. I will be definitively buying and reading the next Carr and Reece adventure for as long as he keeps writing. Oh and one more thing. Stay off the list. 😉
Only the Dead. Good fiction
Awesome. Jacks books just keep getting better I enjoyed all his books. I am excitedly awaiting the next.
Shortcut to a conclusion……. Entertaining. Seems more like a hurried conclusion after the build up of previous books. Manages to capture the protagonist internal conflict but that internal battle is overshadowed with product placement. But still a fan of the author.
Great book describes america and the world today. Great book
Couldn’t put it down. Action packed. If you liked the previous books you will enjoy this adventure.
Awesome read!. Another incredible story by Jack Carr. If you enjoy reading faction (fiction with a lot of truth) you need to pick up his books and begin enjoying. Looking forward to book 7!
Great series. Another great one!
Where’s the rest of the book?. Only two chapters?! Where’s the rest of it?
Somewhat ponderous and too political. But it does keep you interested
Awesome. Read the whole series! AWESOME!
A Good Contiuation. Jack. You’ve written another well rounded book. This one seems a bit rushed and repetitive in its verbiage at times. It has set up some good possible future plots. Still one of my favorite series. Waiting for you to top your Magnum Opus - Savage Son, and to that I say “Best of luck”.
Another excellent entry. Just another phenomenal thriller from Jack Carr and my favorite since his 3rd books Savage Son. This book answered a lot of questions, had some intense and brutal action and enough espionage and detail of the real to scare you to the realities of the world but engross you to turn the page and keep turning till the end.
Only the dead. just starting, but the exchange tween Reece and ‘the voice ‘ at supermax really bites the big one.
Great!. This was an exciting book. I loved it.
An interesting evolution of the character.. Well worth reading, though I have to admit that it’s beginning to remind me of Jack Bauer in 24 with the main character wanting to walk away, ending up in a terrible situation where he’s been betrayed at some level and then jumping back into the fold. Overall it’s worth the read and the writing is phenomenal. I’m curious to see if there will be a seventh book and wonder what choices Reece will make in the future.
Loved previous books. Way to political and shy of much else at 15+% of the way through. This is supposed to be a work of fiction not of one persons, political perspectives, and leanings which has every right to be discussed in an open forum. I don’t work of fiction but I paid $15 for.
Terrifyingly believable. Jack Carr has captured our world today. If only we had a real life James Reece to take out the trash.
Best so far... Best book since Savage Son and Terminal list. Great read and excited for the next Reese adventure.

Only The Dead. Outstanding. Well worth the wait.
Love it.. Carr is really on a roll with this character. He’s surpassing Thor’s Harvath series.
