Dead Fall by Brad Thor Book Summary

Lethal operative Scot Harvath is dispatched to avenge the killing of American citizens abroad in #1 New York Times and #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling author Brad Thor’s new pulse-pounding thriller.

In the war-ravaged borderlands of Ukraine, a Russian mercenary unit has gone rogue. Its members, conscripted from the worst prisons and mental asylums across Russia, are the most criminally violent, psychologically dangerous combatants to ever set foot upon the modern battlefield.

With all attention focused on the frontlines, they have pushed deeper into the interior to wage a campaign of unspeakable barbarity. As they move from village to village, committing horrific war crimes, they meet little resistance as all able-bodied men are off fighting the war.

Simultaneously, a team of Russian soldiers has been dispatched by the Kremlin to loot truckloads of art and priceless cultural treasures hidden away in a host of churches, museums, and private homes.

When multiple American aid workers are killed, America’s top spy, Scot Harvath, is sent in to settle the score. But in a country so vast, will Harvath be able to find the men in question and, more importantly, will he be able to stop them before they can kill again?

I Think Brad Thor May Just be Mailing it in Now. You’ve seen Scott Harvarth take on all kinds of enemies, from Muslim terrorists to Korean assassins, but this time he takes on the most evil, deranged, vicious enemy in the universe: the Russians. Fortunately, fighting by his side are the most virtuous and capable people in human history, the Ukrainians. There is no depth the Russians won’t stoop to, there is no act of heroism beyond the Ukrainian people. Blah, blah, blah. I’ve been a fan from the first book and I’ve always pre-ordered his new books when announced. Unfortunately, while I’m not saying “I’ll never buy a Brad Thor book again,” I’m adopting a wait and see attitude going forward. This book was so simplistic and dull it really was a slog to get through.

Timely with the War. Very timely with the actual War in Ukraine going on. Thor’s political “take” on it is evident. And I have to agree with him to an extent. Longer chapters than his normal books. Why do authors wrap it all up in the last 10 pages? I feel some stuff or ideas could be fleshed out more. Good thing nothing carries over to the next book.

Great. Great

Simply, Thank you.. I’m a vet who has been fortunate enough to gain the love of reading in my later life, you Sir have been there every step of the way. I’m grateful for your books.

Good but odd fit in the series. The book overall was exciting and a good read but… The story and the ending to the story didn’t really fit the previous Scott Harveth universe. I felt like Brad went with the Ukraine side since is real and current but didn’t feel natural to force this universe since past books didn’t have to follow real world events. The ending seemed kind of short and sweet and some loose ends for future stories but none that were super cliff hangerish.

Good But Predictable. Good. What I would expect.

Timely but somewhat predictable. Love the Scot Harvath series. But a little predictable this time around.

Dead Fall. I normally love Brad Thor novels, but Dead Fall falls short with weak plot and character development, and is too preachy.

Too slow to read. Pretty boring stuff. Couldn’t make it past page 185.

OK. Not up to his usual standard. Way too much pontification.

Wally first sergeant. Great book, as it is happening in real time.

Dead Fall. Page turner, as with all of Brad Thor’s efforts topical and a measure of hope, the in the end the good guys will prevail, well done

Classic Thor. And that’s a good thing - after multiple novels, some authors lose their way. Not Thor, Harvath is as good and fresh as ever.

Not his best. I have read every Brad Thor book, and this was not his best. Russia bad, Ukraine good…the West doesn’t do enough. Blah, blah, blah.

Ok story. Juvenile descriptions of the bad guys. I’m not looking for a high brow experience from a Brad Thor novel. But I’ve read several Scott Harvath books and usually enjoyed them. But this one grated. The bad guys are Russian and they are so bad it almost comical. Juvenile descriptions and over the top evil acts. There was also a lot of political speech making. I agree with the politics and the points being made but I don’t need all that page after page in an action novel. “Dead Fall” was definitely more a miss than a hit for me.

Meh. I’ve been pretty critical of this series and author because I never feel like the characters grow or are in any kind of serious peril and the trend continues. Harvath goes to Ukraine to take out the most evil Russian mercenaries and of course it’s seemingly no big deal. You never believe his characters are in serious mortal peril. There’s a few side bar storylines that don’t really amount to much (another villain who claims he’s smart but reader can tell this guy is an idiot and he crumples very quickly). I think this series peaked with Backlash the last time the main character felt like he was in true danger and each book since has felt overly formulaic just a change in plot but the characters copied and pasted over from the last book (they all like Nicholas’s dogs, funk music and fine dining, and a morbid sense of humor which the author always assures us is a sign of high intelligence). Spoiler alert: expect more of the same with 2024.

Dead Fall. 300 totally forgettable pages. The early books were great reads. The past four or five just not worth the effort or money.

Dead Fall. The setting of Dead Fall is Very up to date with what is going on with world conflicts and politics.

Very good albeit very slanted. The first part of chapter 11 was quite right on. I don’t support this war. Our politicians are corrupt. 10%for the big guy.

Intense until the end. The description and accounts of the fighting in Ukraine is bone chilling. We as Americans sitting in our warm homes can’t even begin to imagine or comprehend the horror that the civilians in Ukraine are experiencing. The people that have volunteered to fight in this country’s war are both crazy and to be admired. Brad Thor has done a great service through this fictional portrayal of putting the reader into the intense situation. May we never forget that man is willing to do the unthinkable to a fellow human being.

Dad fall. Thor paints the atrocities of war vividly and the result is a gut wrenching story.

Dead Fall. Great book captures what’s going on real time in Ukraine and Russian disinformation

Best of Brad Thor. I am often astounded by how and relevant Mr. Thor’s books are to current events. He must have intel from a National Security Advisor to be this on point. I have often learned in depth about subjects I felt as a thirty year military officer I should have known more about. I am aware of current events in Ukraine, but what a timely topic. Rising Tiger made me aware of Indian military capabilities that I had little appreciation of. State of the Union taught me about man portable nukes. My only negative criticism is that now that I am through with Dead Fall, what am I to do with my time. I already miss having this book to read each night.

Testing somethin. YouTube.com

Scott Harvath at his Finest. Wonderful addition to the Norseman series. The continuing of his work, fighting for us with such a strong moral compass. Working in areas of strife that brings us to these distant countries. In this book, Scott goes to Ukraine, and all it is going through now. A book of constant motion. Brad Thor always has me looking forward to the next book.

Dead Fall. Well written, full of never ending excitement. I did not want to put the book down.

Don’t Bother!. Sad to say I was completely disappointed. I kept thinking Russia, Russia, Russia. I have read and loved all of your books - every one. Not sure what happened here - but this book was a huge disappointment.

Beginning is a dud…..bloodthirsty Russians….Americans duped by Russian propaganda…. Opening pages just not doing it for me

Dead Fall. As always, FAST MOVING ACTION FROM BEGINNING TO END👍🏻🇺🇸

Great. I have enjoyed every book by Brad Thor.

Dead fall. Needed several red markers yet still fell short trying to edit this book. Wrote it without an editor, did he?

Dead Fall. Brad Thor is always great. This one doesn’t disappoint, just isn’t his best. Nevertheless. A very good, fast paced story that’s current.

More propaganda. This book so blatantly plays to the pro-Ukraine narrative — the “Russian Monsters” viciously attacking the poor, helpless, wholesome Ukrainians — without any exposing of the very real nuances of this war. Surprised Thor would pander so easily to this one-sided and dangerous version of current events. No hint as to Ukraine’s own world-leading corruption, no suggestion that some world institutions, nations and industries might be benefiting by prolonging and supplying the war that is killing so many innocents?

Dead Fall. Another outstanding story from Brad Thor. It’s timely and compelling.

Left hanging. Cheesy unfulfilled ending . You are left hanging. Too many references to murphys law. Not that cute.

Best. Please don’t wait so long for the next book. Your best in awhile.

Superfluous side story. Thor made a book out of a novella by adding an unconnected-to-the-plot side story. Also, why did the sniper ask Harvath to put his hands up when he could have easily shot him like he did with others?

No escape here. I like reading fiction to escape all the craziness of our world these days. I was not expecting to read about somewhat current events in a one-sided point, without mentioning other countries who are manipulating our way here in the US. I will not finish the book nor purchase another from this author. A refund would be appropriate here.

Woke undertones. Always a good story… however the odd insertion of the politely preaching on Ukraine and Russian “ mis-information” threatens the readers ability to stay in the story. Brad please don’t become another statistic of a safe space ruined by preachy narrative pushing.

Dead Fall. Brad Thor. This is definitely now one of my most favorite reads by Brad Thor. Scot Harvath is in the middle of the Ukraine, currently at war with Russia and with small but well seasoned team is taking on group of psychotic, a onetime part of the Wagner group but now operating on their own. Some are from mental institutions, prisons they are the lowest dregs of society. They torture and kill all their victims. Torture so gruesome it is hard for Harvath and his men to even look at their aftermath. Scot and his team are tasked to rescue and American woman taken hostage by them and also two little Urkanian girls. A magnificent read!!! My highest recommendation!!

Good read. Another good one

Excellent as always. Perfect

Great book. Current events coupled with excellent storytelling

Evil Russia. Yes Russia invaded Ukraine, terrible. No hint of any of the widespread corruption in Ukraine. The president of Ukraine is no saint, more like a tyrant. He accepts billions of dollars from the United States with no end in sight for the war. Predictable storyline.

Slava Ukraini. I spent a few years in Eastern Ukraine back in the early 2000s. To me, this book was the best so far because of my relationship ship with the Ukrainian people. The writer nailed their heart and soul.

Great book. Exciting

Good excitement. Exciting but some messages are not good and should not be accepted as the norm

Another great story. Riveting, fast paced, couldn’t put it down.. Mr. Thor is a master storyteller.
