Transcendent in almost every meaning if the word. This is a provocative, transcendent,work of art in all of its dimensions. Buy the physical book and the e-version. Be prepared to stop and think when you least expect it.

This is the Princess Bride if the Princess became a pirate. This book was delightful. If you are familiar with the Cosmere or Brandon Sanderson’s other works you may have met a living easter egg named Hoid. The wisecracking character is the voice of the book and tells a heartwarming tale of a girl who sets off on an adventure to find her captive lover. I did not expect this to be a book about a girl turning into a pirate. It was fun. It was attention grabbing. The magic of spores was new and exciting. It made me want to read more about this universe. If you are familiar with the Cosmere you’ll enjoy this read. If you’re new to the Cosmere this is an okay start but you may get taken aback by the end of the book. The last half is filled with references to earlier Cosmere works and can be a bit much.

Can I Have a Crush on Hoid?. Seriously. How is this character and his voice this good. Smart, quick, and a wonderful story. Please write a series of Hoids adventures…I beg you!

Truly stunning!. My goodness, Sanderson has done it again! Tress of the Emerald Sea provides everything I expected going in and more. Great world building, light humor, lovable characters, cool magic, and—of course—an amazing story. Then there was the art. My gosh, the art was GORGEOUS! This book is awesome, simple put. Truly awesome in its most literal definition. Just…WOW. Tress goes off on an adventure to save her loved one from the evil sorceress. On the way, she ends of with a pirate crew who (as a category) really don’t seem to be bad. Hoid plays a more prevalent role in this story than in most (arguably all) others, which I liked. And there was a dragon. Not really super important, but… there was still a dragon. Once again, the magic system was hard. I LOVED how I could totally understand how the spores worked. It was super cool! If you’re looking for a nice, faster (by Sanderson’s standards), happy, whimsical, read, than this is for you. It was beautiful.

Fun Addition to the Cosmere Novels. A whimsical tale told from the perspective of Hoid. Getting to know Hoid a little more through his narration is fun and builds up the curiosity of who Hoid is and his backstory. Tress is a delightful character that focuses on the good of humanity.

Equal parts whimsy and riveting. A delightful book from BrandoSando that showcases his ability to weave character arcs that end satisfyingly, worlds that evoke magic and mystery, and twists that make you chuckle in appreciation. An easy recommendation.

A nostalgic page turner. I stared reading Tress while in the midsts of another great book only to not be able to put it to read the one I originally started. It’s really cute book a little predictable at times but that didn’t stop it from being enjoyable.

One of my top 5 books ever. I absolutely adore the world, the characters and the whimsical writing. This is my first book from this author, and I will definitely be reading more.

One of his best!. I really enjoyed this one. It is now one of my all time favorites. You get some background on some characters that are interesting plus some new cosmere tech that leave you wondering what is next.
