It’s the third book. TRIGGER WARNING FOR NONCON/RAPE If you are triggered by those things please be wary of this book. There are two scenes, I think it’s portrayed well, but it was not fun to come across in a series like this. Hope this helps someone.

Kinda disappointed. I am honestly a little upset, I have loved every book in both series and don’t think twice about diving into this one. Unfortunately the hype was overrated.. it takes until page 345 to start getting good. Most of the book if not half is about kolis and honestly I could have cared less. Just sayin

Disappointing, worst book of the series. There are a lot of comments in general about this book and I have to agree with all of them that are criticisms. This feels disconnected from everything the author had established. Do we need to spend 2/3 of the book reading only torment and sexual assault? No. Once that part ends it’s just chapter after chapter of repeated conversations until the final 6 chapters. But even those end up repeating each other all over again. This was a total waste. So much of this book was unnecessary and feels like JLA lacked an editor telling her to cut it all down. I had loved this prequel series until now. This is just not good. It’s poor, lazy writing. Like someone who just doesn’t want to end their story so they go off the rails.

the only reason it’s 4 stars... is because i think i need to read it again. this particular installment felt mostly like a filler episode. the writing and story are still a 10/10 in my honest opinion, but…idk, i wasn’t entranced like i usually am.

Loved it.. I almost didn’t read this because of some of the reviews, but I am so glad that I did. I didn’t see this as a filler book at all. There was so much character progression in it. So much depth, given to so many characters. This is one of those stories where I find myself in love with the characters. Reading this was like sinking into another world. Knowing there is only one book remaining is so sad. I am beyond thrilled that this book wasn’t rushed in favor of simply progressing the storyline. It was filled with strength and love, and it was completely beautiful. If you have loved Ash and Sera leading up to now, then I can not recommend this book enough.

Disappointing. After the total disappointment that was the most recent FBAA book, I was hoping that this would redeem JLA in my eyes. I hoped that the reason Soul of Ash and Blood was phoned in was because she was putting all of her energy into this series. But it doesn’t seem like that was the case. ~SPOILERS~ Nothing happens in this book. She’s held captive for most of it, and we see the same situation happen over and over (Kolis hurts her, then apologizes / gaslights her- we get it, he’s a classic abuser, can we move on?). She finally escapes and we see the result of the Culling that has been built up over the past 2 books, only to find out that we never needed to worry. To make it so Ash having his kardia removed never stuck / was never a problem undoes so much and felt cheap. Idk where my girl JLA is putting her energy these days, but it’s clearly not in FBAA OR this series. This was one of my favorite, if not my favorite, YA series and I am praying that the next book redeems it.

FANTASTIC. This prequel series is absolutely amazing. The characters are so alluring, plot is 100%, and the writing is phenomenal. I would recommend this series to anyone and everyone that would listen.

Wow!!!. What a great story it just keeps getting better! This time I took my time to read this book. I usually will finish it in two days. This explains so much and now I understand the other books with poppy and casteel. I didn’t feel like nothing was predictable every single chapter was something new learn. Anyone who’s thinking of reading these books please do you will enjoy them. I can’t wait for book 4 it’s falls on my bday what a great bday gift! 😏😉

What a ride. I have to say.. JA really cooked with this one. The character development and plot had me on the edge of my seat. So much that I ended up forfeiting sleep to read the entire thing overnight 😆 I adore Sera and Ash so so much. Their love is timeless and this book really pulled on my heartstrings. I have to admit a few tears were shed. I don’t think May 2024 can come fast enough.

A wonderful book. A wonderful wrap up to the series? This was wonderful to read and the ending was beautiful 🤌 I can’t wait to read more by Jennifer 😁

Fantastic. I have never read a better story. Best so Gar of all the books in this universe. Every page had me completely entertained, awestruck and amazed. I was so impressed by this author’s work and attention to her universe and story line, especially how all the threads connected with all the books about Sera, Ash, Poppy and Casteel. Every page allowed the reader to find not only how it all began but details that will eventually bring the series to I am sure is an incredible conclusion. Just WOW! Wonderful read.

Epic love. Made me feel alive

Still going strong…. Another epic adventure with Sera and Ash (mostly Sera)! The saga continues as Sera faces Kolis on his turf and we learn more about that jerk face Callum. And if you read about Poppy and Cas, you get a wee bit insight into how Poppy and Sortria are connected…keeps getting better. I’m hanging by a thread to know what happens next!?!

Good until end. I thought this book was decent until the last few chapters and it was just a recap of the book and filler sex scenes. So boring. It was also super annoying how Sera acted throughout the book, it just feels disjointed from what is said in earlier chapters to later on. Not loving this one.

Loved it. I have been provided with a review copy of A Fire in the Flesh from the author and I am voluntarily leaving an impartial review. A Fire in the Flesh is the third book in The Flesh and Fire series and takes place in the Blood and Ash universe. These series are best read in publication order so this story is best read after A Soul of Ash and Blood the fifth book in the Blood and Ash series. This book picks up immediately where we left off in A Light in the Flame so be prepared. I only have one complaint about this story and it’s totally a personal preference but I didn’t like how long Sera was in a particular situation. It doesn’t take away from the story, it's just me being impatient and wanting her to be in a different situation quicker. This story just had so much going on. It seemed like every time you flipped the page a new bombshell was coming to light. I think my brain exploded from everything that was thrown at me from this story and it’ll take a while for everything I learned to digest. I can’t wait for the next installment in this series.

It’s ok -. Some good parts I enjoyed reading but too many parts were extremely repetitive.

Wtf….. For obvious reason when you open the book you don’t stop reading…but then your reading and reading and reading and your learning nothing new really and sera is in the same position she was in page one as she is in page 1000. I found myself skipping/ sight reading the last almost 600 pages and it ended so bad. In the book it’s hinted from the beginning something really big. And it’s brought up a few times and it’s easy to make an assumption (trying not to spoil) but then the book ends…and nothing. I guess we will have to wait till the next book to see if she will actually write what she hinted at 4 times already. I was so disappointed. Just another filler book.

The first half is really slow and repetitive. It picks up in the second half but this book get like it had a lot of bloat and filler. Loved the first two and hope it comes together in the final book

Awesome as usual!. Great book! JA is an amazing writer, i consider her one of my fav authors! Ive not yet read a few of her other series but if theyre anything like this one and blood n ash then im sure i will love them also. Hopefully this series continues to be great, i will definitely be anticipating the next ones!

Trigger warning. I have loved every book in this series, but this one should come with a HUGE trigger warning for survivors of SA/DV. The story was beautiful as always, but this book was hard to get through as a survivor.

Horrible. I’ve read horrible stories before but this one takes the #1 spot. There’s only two good chapters, 37 and 38. The book is drawn out and filled with useless rambling from start to finish. 80% of the book is Sera thinking. The last 3/4 chapters is soft porn. They literally have sex for 3 chapters. The author filled in a lot of the empty pointless narrative by over detailing Sera’s day…i.e “how she brushes her teeth, how she ate her food, how she decides what to wear for the day”. You never get a complete story on a few characters, like what happened to Vesse, Callum, Nye…hell Kolis! The book just ends. She’s literally in a cage for 70% of the book. There’s a reason why it’s $7.99 and that’s even too much to waste on an unedited, horribly written book… this is not a slow burn, it’s not even a slow fizzle… it’s a never lit match. Yeah this author played in our faces with this mess

So disappointing. The first 65% of the book felt like it was completely filler and the repetitiveness was agonizing. I understand that JLA was trying to make us see how terrible Kolis is, but Sera being Kolis’s captive could have been made into 3-5 chapters. showing us what was needed without dragging on the situation just to fill up a book. The fact that literally 65% of the book revolved around the captivity and Kolis and barely had any Nyktos, was asinine. I waited for this book with such high hopes. The first 2 books were 5 stars for me, but this book was such a disappointment. Please JLA, do better for your readers and for your characters. I want to be hopeful and excited about your books again

Came from Blood and Ash—ended up loving this more!. I came from the Blood and Ash series (which I LOVED), but this story has captured me even more. Definitely recommend!!

Great read. Really like this book. Was scared there wouldn’t be enough Ash but there definitely is. Just when I thought the story was slowing down during the middle it ramped up again. There was a lot of surprises and questions being answered. Cannot wait for the next book to come out!
