Takedown Twenty by Janet Evanovich Book Summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER

Powerhouse author Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum novels are “as entertaining as ever” (Entertainment Weekly), “brilliantly evocative” (The Denver Post), and “making trouble and winning hearts” (USA Today).

Stephanie Plum has her sights set on catching a notorious mob boss. If she doesn’t take him down, he may take her out.

New Jersey bounty hunter Stephanie Plum knows better than to mess with family. But when powerful mobster Salvatore “Uncle Sunny” Sunucchi goes on the lam in Trenton, it’s up to Stephanie to find him. Uncle Sunny is charged with murder for running over a guy (twice), and nobody wants to turn him in—not his poker buddies, not his bimbo girlfriend, not his two right-hand men, Shorty and Moe. Even Trenton’s hottest cop, Joe Morelli, has skin in the game, because—just Stephanie’s luck—the godfather is his actual godfather. And while Morelli understands that the law is the law, his old-world grandmother, Bella, is doing everything she can to throw Stephanie off the trail.

It’s not just Uncle Sunny giving Stephanie the run-around. Security specialist Ranger needs her help to solve the bizarre death of a top client’s mother, a woman who happened to play bingo with Stephanie’s Grandma Mazur. Before Stephanie knows it, she’s working side by side with Ranger and Grandma at the senior center, trying to catch a killer on the loose—and the bingo balls are not rolling in their favor.

With bullet holes in her car, henchmen on her tail, and a giraffe named Kevin running wild in the streets of Trenton, Stephanie will have to up her game for the ultimate takedown.

BONUS: This edition includes an excerpt from Janet Evanovich's Top Secret Twenty-One.

Takedown Twenty (Janet Evanovich) Book Reviews

Same old blahI used to LOVE this series. The giraffe in this one is just nonsense. Thrown in for interest that doesn't have anything to do with the real plot of the story. I get she has a formula for writing these books, but I'm thinking maybe she needs to rethink it. It's getting old. Normally these books make me laugh out loud. I was bored with this one..Score: 2/5

Who are the characters againI am so tired of her telling who they are! Just tell us a story and get on with it except for eating there absolutely no reason to read these book.Score: 1/5

More of the same. After reading this, I'm just resigned to the fact that all of these books are just run-of-the-mill. Nothing changes. Stephanie's still with Morelli, but she clearly wants to be with Ranger, same funeral parlor jokes, and an okay mystery. I almost want to just drop the series, but there were some funny moments which bring me back. In the end, if you've read the last 8 books, you won't miss anything by skipping this..Score: 3/5

Takedown TwentyA girrafe? Really? Lame plot. Same old belabored Morelli/Ranger Stephanie triangle. Evanovich's books used to be laugh-out-loud funny. Another unimaginative reworking of earlier books. Definitely the last one I will purchase..Score: 2/5

Takedown TwentyCould have gone minus stars! Have loved this series but this one was beyond boring. Lula is just plain annoying and I would have her shot. Stephanie has gone from perky to pathetic! So disappointed. Glad I didn't actually waste money on this book.....Score: 1/5

Takedown TwentyAnother hysterical book about Stephanie's life as a Bounty Hunter! The story was cute and I laughed throughout. While I love Morelli, I'm with Stephanie on the overwhelming family involvement and decisions are made even more difficult when you throw that yummy Ranger in the mix. Can't wait for the next!!! Thanks Ms E for another great one!.Score: 5/5

Waste of timeI have enjoyed most of Janet Evanovich's books. The Stephanie Plum series has been very funny, but it looks like she's running out of ideas and the books are not as good as they used to be. Looks like she should in the series. It's getting kind of old reading over and over again how Stephanie seems to trash every car she's driving and blundering all of her captures. This was a waste of my time and my money..Score: 2/5

MsI waited so long for this latest adventure of Stephanie, I pre ordered months ago..finally it arrived, after reading for hours I rechecked the tile again, I swore I had already read it..without the humor .. Maybe after twenty books, which I have them all there just isn't anything else to say..except maybe time for Stephanie to make a decision between her two men, Ranger would be my choice...Score: 1/5

Okay, but not greatI used to read her books and laugh until I had trouble breathing! My family would ask me what was going on. I am sad to say that the recent novels just aren't as funny or bizarre. This novel is okay, but I had to push myself to finish it. Reciting the exact same scenarios is redundant and burdensome. Get some new ideas or retire these characters!.Score: 3/5

Takedown TwentyI'm still in love with these stories. Thank you. Very well down, I enjoyed the entire story. Loved that Lula was a major pert of the story line. Each character keeps the story alive. Well done and Thank you..Score: 5/5

Boring and not worth the $$I have always loved the Stephanie Plum series, but this was her worst. Nothing really happened! Morelli and Ranger were barely in the story and nothing happened with either of them. There was zero suspense about what would happen and the story was pretty much recycled with Stephanie facing the same dam issues with no change. I didn't even laugh like I normally do. The ending just dropped off and there was ZERO about this book that made me want to read the next book and nothing to lead it into another book. It's time for Stephanie to make a decision (or at the very least a big step in that direction) or Ms. Evanovich's readers will stop reading her books from sheer boredom! The worst part was this crap cost $12, which is the most I have ever paid for a book! Never again!.Score: 1/5

Author is slipping? Not sure what to think of the latest installment in the series that I so enjoyed in the past. I’ve read of of Janet’s “Stephanie Plum Novels” And have like all of them. EntertainingI have read all the books in this series. Considering this is the 20th book, it wasn't bad. It still is entertaining, but Stephanie Plum is losing some of her spunk apparently. I didn't have any laugh out loud moments as when I read some of the earlier books, but the read wasn't boring either. It almost seems like Janet is writing by just using the same old template and nothing new or terribly unexpected occurred. I still say this book is worth reading, but for fans who have read all the previous books in this series, this one might seem like just some more of the same old, same old. I did enjoy the read, but it wasn't something that I just couldn't put down. Overall a fun read, just not one of Evanovich's best..Score: 3/5

Not even worth a 1/4 Star.Really, really disappointed. All the same characters stuck in time. The silly things that made me like them before now just annoy me because they fail to learn or grow. And the retuning to be a 'ho' again especially ticked me off. I viewed her a someone not ashamed of her past, but having grown. She'd grown and now went back in time? Freakin' annoying!
