Cobweb Bride by Vera Nazarian Book Summary

Many are called...

She alone can save the world and become Death's bride.

COBWEB BRIDE (Cobweb Bride Trilogy, Book One) is a history-flavored fantasy novel with romantic elements of the Persephone myth, about Death's ultimatum to the world.

What if you killed someone and then fell in love with them?

In an alternate Renaissance world, somewhere in an imaginary "pocket" of Europe called the Kingdom of Lethe, Death comes, in the form of a grim Spaniard, to claim his Bride. Until she is found, in a single time-stopping moment all dying stops. There is no relief for the mortally wounded and the terminally ill....

Covered in white cobwebs of a thousand snow spiders she lies in the darkness... Her skin is cold as snow... Her eyes frozen... Her gaze, fiercely alive...

While kings and emperors send expeditions to search for a suitable Bride for Death, armies of the undead wage an endless war... A black knight roams the forest at the command of his undead father… Spies and political treacheries abound at the imperial Silver Court.... Murdered lovers find themselves locked in the realm of the living...

Look closer — through the cobweb filaments of her hair and along each strand shine stars...

And one small village girl, Percy—an unwanted, ungainly middle daughter—is faced with the responsibility of granting her dying grandmother the desperate release she needs.

As a result, Percy joins the crowds of other young women of the land in a desperate quest to Death's own mysterious holding in the deepest forests of the North…

And everyone is trying to stop her.

Great Read!. A powerful story along the lines of Death Takes a Holiday. As creepy and disturbing an opening as one can hope for, the story could easily be classed as horror. Yet, it is a story of redemption and second chances, of finding oneself under circumstances that are as strange as they possibly can be. The author touches upon themes of how the desire to hang on to power corrupts not only psychologically but physically as well, the desire to be accepted and useful, and that overriding desire to love and be loved. The politics are complex but not overly so. I liked the descriptions of what can happen should people be unable to die. And the ending will surprise as well as whet your appetite for the second in this trilogy. Highly recommended.

Very Slow Start. I consume books the way many consume junk food. But this book was difficult to get into. By the end of the book, I was finally invested in at least SOME of the characters. But only because I made myself finish the book. The number of characters and places and story lines introduced in the first two hundred pages were overwhelming. I kept thinking I needed to take notes, and that kind of kills the "reading for pleasure" aspect. I don't feel like the book really grabbed my attention until around the five hundred page mark. Before that, the reading was forced and mechanical, wondering if I should continue or just put it down. I'm glad I kept reading. And I do plan to purchase Cobweb Empire. But I'm hoping it will be easier to get into.

Slow to start.... I found this series as I fell in love with the authors "Atlantis Grail" series (which was friggen amazing and I HIGHLY recommend it). Good lord this series was hard to get into. The first maybe twenty pages had sooooo much going on and soooo many characters to keep track of I was tempted to put it down and pick up something else to enjoy. But I stuck with it as I loved the Atlantis series and knew Vera Nazarian's book would pick up. I am very glad I stuck with it! I found Percy to be a delight- especially that frying pan to the head! Cracked me right up! I enjoyed the whole aspect of the dead not really dying and the descriptions of how they felt. I decided to buy the trilogy to finish the series and I'm glad I did! Vera Nazarian's ability to put a new spin on old tales is fantastic. I agree with another reviewer who said that Percy reminded her of Alanna from The Woman Who Rides Like a Man; strong, oblivious about herself, and confident with a streak of adventure.

Cobweb Bride. A beautifully creative, lovely glimpse of what death could be if he were a person with feelings and a will. The story was slow to start and introduced so many characters in a short time that I almost gave up. I'm so glad I pressed on because the story turned out to be riveting! I can't wait to read the next book in the trilogy!

Truly poignant and memorable. Perhaps because I am an old man, I could not read this volume without constantly tearing up. These are just my first impressions; this story will occupy my thoughts for days. The author has keen insight into family dynamics and the feelings of young women. I hope you read this book and the rest of the trilogy. I can hardly wait to read the next two volumes myself.

Enchanting!!. This is a wonderfully written piece with beautiful diction, prose and characters. Not your typical "teen fiction" or "romance". This author has created a true female champion who reminds me of Tamora Pierce's Lioness in many ways. A very good read!

Cobweb bride. A absolutely brilliant, thought provoking book, with wonderfully complex characters. I was hooked from the first few pages, and I can't wait to see what happens next..

Dreadful. The book reads like a bad translation. The editor needs to get someone with a better grasp of grammar and prose to do a real-write - the story is ok but needs polishing. Fortunately it’s only a short book - and in this instance it was a free read - if I’d bought it from a shop it would have gone back!

Without Death There is No Life. Set in Renaissance Europe in an insular Kingdom (a country mostly unseen by the rest of the world) the author spins a timeless tale of various parties all affected by Death's desperate attempt to find his Cobweb Bride. Death himself gives an ultimatum that until he's given his bride, there will be no death (in the country). The author weaves beautiful prose, great dialogue, quirky characters to create a beautiful long twisting tale (I kept thinking I knew what was going to happen - and I was wrong - good writing!). This is the literary equivalent of a room full of wall sized tapestries that weave a complicated tale with hidden meanings and symbols. You can read it on the surface as a lovely story, but there's an unspoken story being told in the background...if you look through the mist you might see it! Even though I felt poorly (and I knew I had to be up early in the morning) I couldn't put it down. I read all night! Thankfully, it turned out I didn't have to go out so I went back to bed. My only negative about the story was I didn't realise this was a first part of a series so I kept thinking, 'How are they going to resolve XYZ in so many pages?' I now have to read the other two books to find out what happens. Trigger Warnings for people who suffer PTSD: Blood, Assault, knives, murder, kidnapping, parental rejection

Interesting. Yes, this was an interesting concept. I have enjoyed reading and need to look into the next book.

Totally addictive!. I loved the premise of this book that no-one can die until Death has found his Cobweb Bride. The characters and world created pulled me in and I could not stop reading until I had finished. I am totally invested in this trilogy and will definitely be finishing the other two novels asap.

Cobweb bride. Thoroughly enjoyable read.

Very different!!. I’ve never read a book like this before! Very intriguing and interesting the whole way through!! I’m a big fan of Vera and her Atlantis Grail series! Keep up the hard work! Going to buy the next book now! 😘

Cobweb Bride. Absolutely brilliant. Such a great pleasure to discover a new author. I've been binge reading for days.

Good Book. I found it started off a little slow, and it's not really my type of book, but it gets really good by the end. I highly recommend it. Will definitely be considering buying the next books.

Slow start, intriguing finish. Very slow start to about 1/3 of the book. The later sections were very interesting and I found the story was unique and held my attention.
