Freefall by Tess Oliver Book Summary

New York Times & USA Today Bestseller

After leaving high school, with a hard won diploma and the title of most likely to break hearts, Alexander "Nix" Pierce has left his wild, out of control years mostly behind him. A small inheritance from his grandfather has given him the funds to open up his tattoo shop, Freefall, and he has started to pull his life together. Aside from trying to keep his best friend, Dray, from killing himself in the fight ring, and his slight obsession with a pin-up model he's never met, Nix's life is going smoothly . . . until Scotlyn James, the object of his obsession, walks into his shop.

Ever since a tragic accident killed her family and left her alone in the world, Scotlyn James hasn't spoken one word. Up until now she didn't care that she had no way of talking to people. Her awful aunt would never have listened, and Lincoln Hammond the arrogant, selfish man who pulled her from the streets of Los Angeles wouldn't hear her words if she could speak. But when Lincoln insists she get a tattoo to cover up a scar on her side, Scotlyn meets the artist, Nix Pierce. And now she longs for her voice. Now she has found someone who will hear her.

Great book!!. Don’t hesitate to read it. Lovely. Would almost seem like a reality.

Loved it!!. I haven't read a book that's kept me intrigued, in a very long time. The author definitely captured each characters emotions, and shared them with us. Nix and Scotlyn were amazing with each other. I'm glad she found her voice. It was worth the read! ;)

Amazingly breathtaking. It's amazing, breathtaking, suspenseful, heart melting, and so. I loved it so much i read in less than 24 hours.

Nix and Scotlyn. I liked the story and the characters but feel it could of had a little more depth. I felt like I was reading a romance novel for a teenager in some ways. It had lots of potential but could have been a little more involved. You know like an adult woman would read. Just needed the rated R version and not the PG version.

Boring boring gone. Glad this is out of my library! This was so god dang boring! There was no chemistry and the pace of the book was too slow.

Ok .. Not great. This was a cute story .. Not too believable (you'll notice the nonsense Hammond puts Scotlyn through yet no "bad" consequences) but cute nonetheless ... Almost like a PG type story.. No steamy scenes or anything .. Just ok .. I'm gonna go out on a limb here and hope that Clutch's story is better and again hope for an update on Nix and Scotlyn ...

Quick Read. I enjoyed the book. The concept of Scotlyn being mute was interesting. Sure the plot makes some big leaps with no explanation but that's what makes it a quick read! LOL!

Garbage. This book blows. The only thing I can say is that I read the whole thing, but I also read the whole Twilight "saga" so I'll obviously waste my time reading trash.

AWESOME!!!. Beautifully written and funny. One of the many good books I have read so far!!

Freefall. Wasn’t crazy about the book. Seemed to me scottlyn was a cheater and then they added in Clutch being into an underage girl. Parts were good and other parts were distasteful.

Try again!. I loved this at then beginning but towards the I started to dislike it idiot like how the characters were portrayed/how they acted I would not recommend this book to anyone

there's a reason it's free. poor punctuation and grammar along with sexualization of a child all balled into one terrible read.

I'm in awe of Nix. Written well. Very entertaining. Swoon worthy.. The story is told in both Scotland and Nix's POV. Nix owns a tattoo shop and Scotlyn ends up getting a tattoo at his shop. She does not know it yet but Nix has a photo of her from a model shoot she once did. Scotlyn is with a very controlling man. She is unhappy with him. Scotlyn's tattoo is going to take four sessions and she is pleased about that because she is attracted to Nix. The story is funny, entertaining, interesting, and it flows. The characters are great and intriguing. The writing is amazing. I can't put the book down. I'm hungry for answers and clinging to hope fullness. Scotlyn is helping Nix's grandmother write her memoirs. Nana is a breathe of fresh air. The way she speaks with such knowledge and compassion is special. Nana speaks with healing words. Beautifully written story. Scotlyn's past and life story touches you deep in the heart. The beauty of the relationship between Nix and Scotlyn is breathtakingly sweet. The mystery behind Hammond's business deal is quite intriguing. I can't wait to find out what gets revealed regarding Scotlyn being collateral. The silent connection between Nix and Scotlyn is touching. I'm rooting for them to have the freedom to be together. I'm fighting for Scotlyn to get her independence back and gain control of her own life. I consumed every written word so quickly that I neglected my family for the day. I could get enough of Nix and Scotlyn. It was swoon worthy.

Couldn't stop reading!. I enjoyed this so much- didn't want to sleep until I finished it. Looking forward to see how the story continues with the character's friends

Good read. I enjoyed this book very much, can't wait to read the next in the series!

Good summer read, the whole series.. I liked this quick story. Characters were really cool and different from the normal rich guy poor girl deal. Like the whole crazy world that Nix and his boys are all about. Worth it and so is the rest of te series.

LOVE!!!!!. This book caught my attention and I fell into the character's drama & world in no time. I had to read this in one setting because it was so thrilling the entire time. I loved the non stop action and heat between the characters. I could definitely picture the scenes in my mind like a movie, that's how I know it's a good book. And I also liked how the book had some dirty scenes but not enough to be an erotica, just enough to tease you. I want the next book! I can't wait to see what happens next. 😄💕❤️

Amazing book. It has a good plot, and just the whole story is captivating. I loved every page and character. I read it in just a few hours since I could not put the book down.

Wow. Great read ! Loved it all .

Good read. I was skeptical about purchasing this book from the many bad reviews I read, but for the price I couldn't go wrong. I discovered it on the New York Times best sellers and I am glad I brought it. It is not my normal reading category, but It was a really good read. The storyline flowed. The writer could have been more informative at the end, but I still really enjoyed it.

Loved it!. Highly recommend this series. Loved all the books. Great characters. Also recommend reading Strangley Normal, which ties into the book about Rett.

Freefall. What a great book!!! I especially loved the dialogue with "Nana" as she dictated her memoirs; it was so touching and added such depth to the book.

Good read. Enjoyed this book and all the characters

Good but sometimes slow. Slow at some parts but I liked the book to be honest!

SPEECHLESS !!. Gosh I was so surprised and shocked when it ended . I wanted more! I guess I fell in love with their love story 😍👌🏼

Cute. Cute love story. Slightly predictable but worth the read. Characters are wonderfully modern and lovable with good depth.

Meh. This book started out pretty good, but halfway through, it turned painfully trite and ridiculous. It couldn't have ended fast enough.

I'm hooked!. He's been carrying around her picture for a year, the image of the pin-up girl whose eyes seem to stare right back at him.  Nix just never thought she'd walk into his tattoo shop, that she'd be unable to speak, or that she would be attached to a guy who seemed determined to control her every move. After losing her family and her voice, Scotlyn's lucky that Lincoln took her in off the streets and gave her a measure of security that park benches and scavenged food never did.  But in exchange, she seems to have lost her freedom, trapped now in a pseudo relationship with a man who views her as a possession, in a cold house filled with fine things, in a silence that keeps her feelings locked away.  But Nix, the tattoo artist charged with inking over her scar, really sees her.  And for the first time in forever, she longs to be heard. The Verdict:  I knew I'd probably enjoy the Freefall, but I thought it would just be another entertaining read with a predictable plot.  Instead, I was pleasantly surprised and ended up loving it! Nix is not what I expected at all, not your typical romance novel tattoo artist.  While it's made clear that he can have just about any girl he wants, that's not really a big aspect of the story.  In fact, the revolving door of women one might expect seems to have been avoided altogether, focusing instead on a guy who takes care of his ailing grandmother, looks out for his rowdy friends, and falls head over heels with the girl of his dreams. Scotlyn wasn't what I expected either, with a darker past than I imagined.  Yes, she lost her family in a terrible car accident, and with them her voice, but she also went through a period of homelessness and drug addiction, and while it wasn't ever detailed, it was hinted that she traded herself for shelter, food, or drugs a time or two.  But now she lives in a ritzy mansion with the jerk of a guy who plucked her off the streets, and while she knows he probably saved her life, she can't be happy in the loveless world in which she now lives. The moment Nix and Scotlyn meet, it's clear there's something between them.  He's fascinated by her, and he accepts her muteness without judgement.  Scotlyn's intrigued by the way he seems to “hear” her, seems to understand even the things she doesn't say, and there's no doubt she's attracted to him.  Unfortunately, the man she's attached to isn't so willing to let her go, and he's downright cruel in his possession of her.  Turns out his shady business deals are putting her in danger as well, and while he's not exactly willing to part with her, it's clear he doesn't love her at all. I fully expected Freefall to be filled with angst and drama, but while the drama wasn't lacking, the angst was somehow dialed down — and that's a good thing.  There was just enough to keep things serious, but the story avoided the usual cliches and pitfalls that so many similarly plotted books contain.  I was a bit annoyed with Scotlyn for not simply trying to walk away from her pseudo-boyfriend when it might have been easier, but I can only imagine how difficult it would be to trade in one dependency for another.  I suppose it says a lot about her character that she was finally willing to chance it, dangerous as her situation ended up being, to prove to herself that she could take care of herself without relying on the charity of others. The only thing I didn't like about the story was how quickly the loose ends were wrapped up at the end.  While I appreciated it not being some twisted mess that was dragged out for ages and ages — and that neither Scotlyn nor Nix did that self-sacrificing crap that seems almost like it's a plot requirement now days — I don't really understand how something that involved a bunch of criminal goons, South American gun deals (presumably), and what amounts to organized crime could be so easily swept away in favor of a happily ever after.  Like I said, I don't like that overdone drama, but just as it was clear how dangerous Scotlyn's situation was, it was all resolved.  That just doesn't seem realistic to me at all. In any case, I'm hooked.  It looks like I'll be breaking my own rules and spending money on the next books in the series.

Good read. Quick read with love able characters.

Promising start, then fell apart.. This book started off pretty well, but around a third of the way through, it feels like the editor quit- both in terms of plot/character development and copy-editing.

Brilliant. Couldn't stop reading, absolutely fantabulous!

Brilliant. Could not put this book down great characters who come to life very quickly and you really feel for them! Love how even though the girl needs a bit of saving she manages to do it most of it herself with a bit of support.

5 stars!. Finished this book in 2 days!!brilliant read & well written!!

:). Enjoyed this a lot!

Different. Well written. This seemed like a young adult book which is not what I normally go for. However, I'm glad I read it as I enjoyed the storyline. It was different to the usual romances and I thought Scotlyn's inability to speak was portrayed really well. Only thing I would have liked more is more intimate scenes. But that's just my opinion

Lovin Nix.... Great story Nix, Dray and Clutch - 3 hot guys and tattoos what more can you ask for. Lovin Nana...❤ Couldn't put it down. Can't wait for more.

Fantastic read. Loved this story, read it in a day. Great characters, adored Nix & Scotlyn. Would be fab if follow up book with the other male characters stories

Brilliant. A well written book with full interesting characters. Looking forward to reading other books in this series

A good read, but slightly lacking….. Not read anything by Tess Oliver before. This was a nice find on KU. The story was interesting with a bit of everything, a good mix of characters that have their own books, plot twists and a good dose of romance, but sadly lacking in the heat we’re all used too- hence the 4 star rating, otherwise it would definitely be a 5 ⭐️ I get some writers don’t like to do the really explicit stuff, for a whole host of reasons and a lot of that stuff often feels fake, ridiculous and a bit OTT, but this just about avoided it all. There was a little teeny tiny bit but a little more 🔥 would have made this book perfect in my opinion. Otherwise, still a good read.

Free fall- Tess Oliver. Two Words - Extremely Enjoyable !!

Loved it. Great read, really great characters, a bit of a loose end with Hammond but still a good read

Amazing!!. Such a good read and such a unique story, loved it so much.

Loooveee. Absolutely loved it!!

Freefall. Just loved reading this book! Looking forward to reading the next book about clutch :) great story!

It's ok. Im kind Of interested in what happens with the rest of the gang, but this one doesn't inspire me to spend money on the rest of the series. Then again, my curiosity might break me down at some point

Freefall. Overall a good story. Worth the read

Highly recommended read..... Absolutely enjoyed reading this book, couldn't put it down & read it in 1 night, lived the characters especially nawty nana ;-)

Nice. Nice quick read. Bit rushed at the end but over all, it was good.

Breathless.. Left me.. Was a very romantic book with danger, love and good friends. Highly recommend.

Great series. This series will suck you in and want more. The characters are sassy and loveable, and you fall In love with the guys completely. Rett was my favourite and helps with the stunning book cover. The only thing I wanted more in this series were the love scenes could be a bit spicier, but the storyline carried it over the line.

Pretty good. Very similar characters & style of writing to Tammy Faulkner's series about the Reed brothers who also own a tattoo parlour...huh.

Freefall. Great story and well written. Unfortunately the ending of the book was rushed. Felt like the author just wanted to book to end. The book is short and could have been a lot longer. But I must say it was a good book

Great story. Loved the whole thing. Great characters. Great romance.

Good read!. Downloaded this book yesterday and already finished it, such a good read!
