Shadow Spell by Nora Roberts Book Summary

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts comes the second novel in a trilogy about the land we’re drawn to, the family we learn to cherish, and the people we long to love…

Book Two of The Cousins O’Dwyer Trilogy
Shadow Spell

With the legends and lore of Ireland running through his blood, falconer Connor O’Dwyer is proud to call County Mayo home. It’s where his sister, Branna, lives and works, where his cousin, Iona, has found true love, and where his childhood friends form a circle that can’t be broken. A circle that is about to be stretched out of shape—by a long-awaited kiss.

Meara Quinn is Branna’s best friend, a sister in all but blood. Her and Connor’s paths cross almost daily, as Connor takes tourists on hawk walks and Meara guides them on horseback across the lush countryside. She has the eyes of a gypsy and the body of a goddess…things Connor has always taken for granted—until his brush with death propels them into a quick, hot tangle.

Plenty of women have found their way to Connor’s bed, but none to his heart until now. Frustratingly, Meara is okay with just the heat, afraid to lose herself—and their friendship—to something more. But soon, Connor will see the full force and fury of what runs in his blood. And he will need his family and friends around him when his past rolls in like the fog, threatening an end to all he loves…

Meh. I love to read NR books; not just for the story, but for the prose. Roberts wields words the way Meara wields a sword. In this book, however, the sword is, at best, dulled. I quickly tired of the overwrought Irish speech and the repetitive nature of the scenes. I've read other reviews call this series formulaic; I would agree, but add that the formula was weak in this book. Perhaps I'm not the right reader for all this talk of magick (entirely too much talk). I do know that the ending to the series seems all too obvious, and the only reason I'll read the next book will be to finally see Fin and Branna get past their past. It's time to reread a JD Robb book and restore my faith in Nora.

Shadow Spell. Very good

Shadow Spell. This sequel to Dark Witch was awesome. I can't wait for the 3rd book of this trilogy, Blood Magick to come out. I love Nora Roberts books and this author has never disappointed me. I hope you continue to write and write and write!

Sharks Spell. I am also a fan and have all her work in paper and I library but lately, specially this book, as been a disappointment. I may read all the jd robb again since is my favorite. I love the Irish mystics but, the plot needs a moré action. In my opinion

Terrific second book in trilogy!. Nora Roberts continues to deliver great story telling and romance in this 2nd book of the Dark Witch Trilogy. I'm looking forward to book three!!

I like this book but don't love it..... This isn't Nora Roberts best. I was hoping for more.....

She's back here. So I am a loyal fan of hers for Decades! I've read it all, including the In Death which is A-mazing! Please please please if you have not read these do so. Theres no need to read in order, but I think they're better that way especially since, as you hit #40 in a series, some elements stop being explained in such depth and, as a recent reviewer noted, some VERY important characters don't get the time they deserve. On to This book's review. This one is so much better than the first, and certainly better than her "ordinary" trilogies (Bride series, Next Always series, etc). While it's true that her writing has suffered in recent years (she's just writing too much at a time with too many focuses and the quality has gone down), this book is quite good. I didn't like the first in the series but this one has a number of story elements that you definitely won't find in any genre of romance or even in some supernatural books--and of course, with Roberts those new inventive elements (time splicing, layered space, dark sorcerers that make you WANT to get to know them, etc) are at their finest. I think the character development was good, but not executed as well as in her earlier texts where the reader didn't even realize they were being subjected to development; for example, as a reader I would find myself for large parts of the novel being steered to Maera, and then she would be largely forgotten as I was turned to Connor. Overall, no one does mystery and dark supernatural with more than a touch of sex like Roberts. In THIS genre she's always worth the price and the time. Not just a beach read.

Very slow book. Not your typical Nora Roberts book in my opinion. Very slow and hard to follow. Definitely a disappointment and wish I could get my money back...

Better than that. First I love Nora Roberts. This is a lovely little story. It has good character development, great imagery and a continuing plot. It was a pleasure to read. I almost skipped this book based on two reviews I read. This is not Nora Roberts best and I wouldn't recommend this as your first Nora Roberts read. But if you've read her work before you'll find this book a rewarding addition to your library. Now the negatives. It's a little short and pricey. I think one larger book with the whole story would be much better and I'd be willing to pay for it.

Disenchanted. I love reading NR's books, and enjoyed the first of this trilogy, and was very excited to read Shadow Spell. I was very unhappy with the low keyed plot other than them making plans to take over the villain. I quickly became bored with it all.... I surely hope Blood Magick is the one to bring it all together with some sort of story until they finally finish the villain.

Shadow spell. Not her best work

Disappointing. The first in this series was "magickal" with well-developed characters and a strong, fish out of water narrative. I expected more excitement but this was just --- more of the same. Even the romance scenes seemed forced. Enough, already. I'll wait for the library to carry the last book...no more money to my account to go to this author. And Ms Roberts, if things don't shape up with Roarke playing a bigger role in your other series, you might have lost me there, also. As sketched...barely, in the "Concealed" novel, he was barely a background character. Alas

Good story line but a little disappointing narration. Not as captivating and strong narration as you expect from Nora Roberts’s books. The story line is a strong one.
