Act of War by Brad Thor Book Summary

The #1 New York Times and #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling author Brad Thor delivers his most frightening and pulse-pounding thriller ever!

After a CIA agent mysteriously dies overseas, his top asset surfaces with a startling and terrifying claim. There’s just one problem—no one knows if she can be trusted.

But when six exchange students go missing, two airplane passengers trade places, and one political-asylum seeker is arrested, a deadly chain of events is set in motion.

With the United States facing an imminent and devastating attack, America’s new president must turn to covert counterterrorism operative Scot Harvath to help carry out two of the most dangerous operations in the country’s history.

Code-named “Gold Dust” and “Blackbird,” they are shrouded in absolute secrecy as either of them, if discovered, will constitute an act of war.

Act of war. Great read as always, glad for new contract, hurry with next book. Maybe make the books longer, I seem to finish too soon!

Act of War. First let me say Brad thor is one of my favorite authors. I've read all of his books. I can only give this a 3 star rating. In this and his last book he fills up too much space with his conservative Obama foreign policy bashing beliefs. I totally agree with his opinions about that but using it as a substitute for good writing is disappointing. The ending is not satisfying here, everyting wraps up in a few pages with only a few sentences to explain some plot issues. I think Brad needs to spend more time writing and less time on television.

Act of War. Another GREAT Thor read!

Move Over Jack Ryan & Mitch Rapp. Brad Thor has written one of the best intelligence thrillers to date with "Act of War." Scott Harvath is the American hero that this country is crying out for in these unsettled times!

Loved this book!. Great plot. Well constructed as always. I love it that Brad Thor continues to write great stories. I can't wait for the next one.

Disappointing. I've read all of a Thor's books and I think this was my least favorite. The story just seemed like it was all over the place and was hard to follow.

Snow Dragon. Good book. Lots of twists in the plot.

Act of War. EXCELLENT READ! Be sure you have the time before you start because it’s hard to put down! You can’t wait for the end of a chapter for a break in the action to rejoin the world because there are so many story lines, each just as fast-paced, that you have to keep reading!

struggling for something better. As intelligence thrillers go, this one plays it safe and sometimes gets bogged down.

Act of War. Brad Thor's latest book is phenomenal! The non stop action unfortunately kept me reading and I finished the book in two days. Thor has the ability to paint a picture that makes the book seem like a movie, you can visualize the action and see the scenery as the story progresses. I can not wait until the next book.

Act of War. Enjoyable read. Brad Thor threads current events into his story line. I could not put the book down. And did not like to find at 5:30 a.m. that there was only 25 pages left. The end as usual makes me want to read more of the adventures of Scot Harvath.

Act of War. I love your books and especially your subjects. I am a retired Contractor for SIGINT satellite payloads for the US government. Hence my interest in your books. They have a lot of realism. S.G. MILLER

Not worth full price. Having read all of Thor's previous books, I have to say I'm not impressed with act of war. There is a total lack of depth compared to previous books. It felt rushed or maybe unfinished? Note to the author - you go out of your way to acknowledge your fans and everyone that has helped you. We appreciate that, but we expect more from you. You got the new contract based on your talent and our dollars. This effort was sub par and I won't be buying your next book when it first releases as I have with your others. Get back to what made you great.

Co- written by Fox News?. Completely unnecessary right-wing blather interspersed throughout.

Act of War. Thor has written a lot better books, I have read them all.

One Stop Read. Could not put it down and am already getting the next one.

It’s Okay.. Interesting and Scary story all at the same time. It’s a LOT in this book. We have way too many characters to keep up with. Per usual, we have two stories running side by side. This book they do not tie up together. Also, per Thor, we wrap the book up quick in the last 20 pages.

A good read. Act of War is a primer on modern threats to America...conventional and unconventional. If you are a political junkie with a modicum of historical knowledge, none of the potential threats in Thor's book will be revelatory or even mildly novel. Thor does weave an interesting tale pitting Chinese terrorist cells against special agent Scott Harvath (the protagonist) and America's finest. I just wish Thor would spend more time humanizing Harvath and add some comic relief like he has in the past. Still, a good read.

700 great pages.... And then that ending? *Yawn*. C'mon Bradley.

Act of War. A bad read. A long, boring, predictable plot. Each of Thor's stories read like every other one. Scene changes, same storyline. I do not recommend this book.

Act of War. Kept me reading until 3:00am! Love Brad Thor books keeps your heart beating as you turn to the next page!!!

Act of War. Brad Thor. China is on the verge of collapsing. They are unable to grow enough food to feed their people. North Korea is aiding them by allowing their personnel to train there. Six young princelings who are the children of highly powerful and influential Chinese are sent to America as engineers at NASA. When their training is over they disappear into numerous safe houses. Chinia is planning to attack America by a huge EMP strike. A very well written fast paced read with Scott Harvath at the helm supported by a very elite team of operators. Enjoyed immensely!! My highest recommendation!!

Not good. I've been a big Brad Thor fan and have read all his books and this is the worst by far. I struggled to get through it only to be disappointed by the ending. Add that to my bitterness for paying $14.99 for the electronic version (no trees, no ink, no shipping, etc) and you get a big thumbs down from me.

Fun read. The plot has enough things correct to make it fun.

Mediocre. I've read all of the books in the Horvath series. This is this least satisfying. If you want the continuity, read it, but it really disappoints. Too bad.

Upsetting. I've enjoyed this series until now. Seems less like an attempt at quality writing and more like political commentary. Thor, whose characters indulge in long diatribes that seem cut and paste from Fox News, seems to have no problem Trojan-horsing his conservative opinions into the storyline. Not that I don't agree with some of the sentiment- but I like to chose when and how I get fed this stuff- don't like it slipped to me on the sly. Hypocritically he denigrates other media etc for doing the same! Practice what you preach Thor. I just wanted a good read. Advice: try to play less to the Right and more to the many people paying money to read decent literature. There should be some disclosure that this is just silly cheap propaganda.

Must Read. This book will not disappoint.

Act of War. Thor has forgotten that he is a thriller novelist and not an Op Ed columnist. By far the worst book in an otherwise exciting series. Not worth retail let alone wholesale price. Skip it.

Outstanding. I enjoyed this book, especially the attention to detail. As a former Corpsman, I appreciated your "plugs" for us in this book. I look forward to many BT books in the future. By the way, welcome to Nashville. David Stephenson Franklin, TN

Right Wing Garbage. Might as well been written by Fox News. If that’s why you want, go for it.

Act of war. Seriously, did Brad phone this in? Having read all his books, this one is not worthy. Keep to your standards man! .

Weird Plot. Felt like this one had no direction honestly. It ended uniquely and in a way I wasn’t expecting, but the secondary storyline didn’t match up AT ALL with the primary story. Really disappointed with that. Wouldn’t really recommend reading this one just because it doesn’t have much depth to it as past thrillers have had. I felt bored reading this one and actually set it aside for a few weeks just because it didn’t get going until around chapter 45 or so. Not Thor’s best work and I could tell a deadline had to be met here being that the book ended in 3 chapters. Sorry Thor, not my favorite.

Great as usual. I've been reading Brad Thor since his first novel. Loved each and every one! In this most frightening time in our history we want to believe we could have a president that loves our country, as we do, and would support a Scott Harvath. Thank you Brad but since your novel things seems to be escalating. What's next? Keep on writing, you're the best!

Real life suspense till the end. As always Thor wrote another thriller and it didn’t disappoint. The topics he picks unbeknownst to the American population are real life scenarios that play out behind the scenes in our government and political system. Harvarth and crew bring us close to suspense in this page turning can’t put down book.

One of Thor's Better Books. In a genre that can become very mechanical and formulaic this book rises above. I found the plot more detailed and in multiple levels and locations simultaneously with better dialogue. Highly recommend.

Great action read. Very enjoyable book that keeps your attention with tremendous detail regarding weapons and locations. Well done.

Outstanding - pay no attention to poor reviews. Brad Thor both educates and entertains as he explains the truth about North Korea, the truth about America bailing Mexico out of its peso crisis, and a very realistic scenario of the economic consequences of America's massive debt. I can see why some would not want people to read this book. These are the people that want Americans and others to remain ignorant and asleep. Pay no attention to such people. Remain ignorant at your peril. Everyone, especially every American, should read this book.

Pretty decent. This book was not bad...didn't care for the political swipes he took (lots of cheap shots), but can't say that I was surprised by that. Otherwise a pretty decent book.

Excellent read. Fast face and intense

Great!. So Great, thank you Mr Thor

Act of War. Too hard to follow. He's written much better.

Fully enjoyed it.. One can imagine how difficult it must be to come up with compelling stories in this genre. This story although fantastic, is lain out it a completely believable fashion using the current state of America's financial, economic and cultural state. I found it very witty that the story is placed a few years from now with a no nonsense president that has to deal with the terrible state that America was left to him. High tech, highly political and well written. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Pretty boring. I've read all of thor's books. This one is bogged down with minutia instead of developing the story

Act of War. I've read all of his books but wished I'd passed on the last three. They are nowhere near his earlier efforts. They've become formulaic, preachy and predictable. I used to look forward to his next book. Not any more.

Act of War. China has finally decided to collect on the huge national debt owed it by the United States...but it won't be a monetary repayment they're after but rather the entire country. In a half-clever plot born of the TV show "Revolution", China plans on defeating the entire United States in one fell swoop. While at times reeking of the author's own über right-wing philosophies (p. 185), the book does move along at a breakneck pace and does beg for a day-long reading. My only real criticism of the book is the portion devoted to North Korea which turned out to be merely page-filling and serving no useful purpose to the overall plot or ending. If you're a fan of Mr Thor's books, as I am, you'll likely be a little bit letdown by the unreality of the ending and the swiftness of the last 50 pages which make no real sense. I hope his next offering is done with a little more concern for his audience.

Act of war. Love the series, but this isn't up to past standards. The brief description was a little misleading as the "Acts of War" seemed like sub plots rather than the focus as it implies. Good plot, but the ending??? Let down.

Act of War. Very good as usual. Fun reading.

3.5 stars. Ok but not great. Plot takes a weird and highly unbelievable twist that made me want to stop reading. It was past the point of no return so if kept going. Glad I did but just to say I did but I thought the plot was too much and predictable. I would give 3.5 stars if I could. This was like having 4 disparate stories running at once and not enough depth into any of them.

Act of war. Very good book

Act of War. This book ate up a good piece of my vacation as I couldn't put it down. Moves along very nicely from Asia to America, as the story funnels it's way to the ending. Scary prospects explored and brought to conclusion by the characters. Good read!
