The War of the Worlds Book Reviews
The War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells Book Summary
The War of the Worlds is a science fiction novel by H. G. Wells, first published in 1898. It is the first-person narrative of the adventures of an unnamed protagonist and his brother in Surrey and London as Earth is invaded by Martians. Written between 1895 and 1897, it is one of the earliest stories that detail a conflict between mankind and an extraterrestrial race. The novel is one of the most commented-on works in the science fiction canon.
The War of the Worlds has two parts, Book One: The Coming of the Martians and Book Two: The Earth under the Martians. The narrator, a philosophically-inclined author, struggles to return to his wife while seeing the Martians lay waste to southern England. Book One also imparts the experience of his brother, also unnamed, who describes events in the capital and escapes the Martians by boarding a ship near Tillingham, on the Essex coast.

Cool. I love this book I've read it since I was twerky
First and Best. The original and greatest alien invasion story. Period.
Hold up after all this time.. This book has been my list to read for a long time. Having finally committed to doing so, Iām glad that I did. The story is well written and structured. It holds up after all these decades and is a thought provoking idealism of what may will do when catastrophe occurs unexpectedly. It moves at a quick pace, and the parts that move more slowly are short and so it does not drag the story needlessly. I highly recommend this to anyone that has seen one of the numerous versions of this story on screen, and see what the adventure actually is.
Not bad at all. Not the most consistent pace I have encountered in a book, but interesting enough, and the ending was fairly surprising.
Original. Original Ahead of its time.
Nonononono. Why..... i just finished the booooook. It was soo goooddd and its overrrrrrrr.
very nice book. very captivating

Dystopia global classic predicts planes/space travel. Simple accessible style skilled writing apocalyptic imagery , below sc di plot there are deep historical parallels and precedents plus prescient re flying machines and space travel, underrated masterpiece. Both predictions philosophical thoughts on the place if religion and science in our modern society . Many historians
Great book - but outstays its welcome. WotW is a must-read for any fan of Victorian fiction, although it must be stated that Wellsā imagery is never as attention-grabbing as Dickensā, and the many attempts at horror all fall short of the experience gained from reading āDraculaāā¦ WotW beats both those books even if it is in one category only: having a truly fascinating storyline which is made even more so when you appreciate that this book, which predicts many of the inventions of the 20th Century, was written over 120 years ago One critique must be stated, however: this book may be a page-turner for the first 12 chapters, I found that the second book outstayed its welcome, leading to a third act which is, to quote a certain video game review, ābloatedā.
Better than expected. I thought I would give it a try to āread some classicsā and I have to say I was/am pleasantly surprised with the gripping drama that unfolds. Slow burn but very good, 5/5.
Best HG Wells book ever!. This book was so good, I couldnāt put it down! I finally did when I had read 10 chapters. This novel is one of my favourite books and is outstanding to read! This is really gripping and caught my attention quickly, I imagined myself in the story and it sent a sudden chill down my spine. I would recommend this book to people over the age of 9 or 10. A masterpiece!
Classic. Life changing
