"Logic Pro X - How It Works" is also the only Logic book available as an interactive multi-touch eBook. On 849 pages, the author explains the app in great detail with additional background information that is often required to fully understand specific features. Many of the information regarding the functionality of Logic Pro X is found neither in the official documentation nor anywhere else.

This is where the unique approach of the Graphically Enhanced Manuals series come in. No matter how complex or complicated the subject is, the author provides easy to understand graphics and diagrams that let the reader understand and master the material.
This interactive multi-touch eBook includes a 600 term Glossary that is linked throughout the content of the book.

This is part one of two Logic books. "Logic Pro X - How It Works" and "Logic Pro X - The Details"

UNDERSTAND, not just LEARN

That is the motto of the book series "Graphically Enhanced Manuals" (GEM). They're a new type of manual with a visual approach that helps you UNDERSTAND a program, not just LEARN it. No need to read through 500 pages of dry text explanations. Rich graphics and diagrams help you to get that "aha" effect and make it easy to comprehend difficult concepts. The Graphically Enhanced Manuals help you master a program much faster with a much deeper understanding of concepts, features and workflows in a very intuitive way that is easy to understand

Perfect Learning Tool This book has been a great help!!. I'm in the process of switching from DP to Logic and came across these books in the Graphically Enhanced Manuals series. One thing I realized right away are all the graphics and diagrams that you usually don't find in a typical user manual for software apps. I know how a sequencer works, but I had to find out how Logic works differently than the one I'm used to. Those diagrams make it very clear and I'm up and running in no time. This is the way to learn an app. Highly recommended.

Great Book!. This book not only combines a graphical approach to learning, but also provides clear visualizations in addtion to the concise reading material. I am well versed in Logic and each time I pick up these books, I learn something knew. It also makes for an excellent reference manual. Perfect book for the beginning who wants to begin to master Logic and learn and understandā€¦ How It Works! Highly recommended.

Become a Legend by Learning from the Legendary. The easiest way to become legendary is to learn from the Legends. Edgar Rothermich is one of them. Buy this book - achieve the greatness that you most desire.

Easily the best DAW guide I've read. I was skeptical about this guide because of all the graphics and screen shots (ah, it's just filler), but it's absolutely fantastic. It's easily the best DAW guide I've read. Especially awesome things about it: * It's huge - covers a lot of Logic * The level of detail is just right. It goes into enough depth to satisfy my need to know how it works, but not too much detail, which has been moved to the forthcoming follow-up book. * I really like the chair / instrument / player / stand analogy with the tracks and environment objects. I kind of half-understood things in a nebulous manner beforehand, but it all makes a lot of sense now * It's not a point and click tutorial (check out Apple's Pro Training Series book for that), but an explanation about what the different features, settings, and controls _do_. This is a great second book after you've gone through a tutorial and have actually used Logic for a while. * The author isn't a brainwashed fanboy. There are some inconsistencies, rough corners, and general WTFery, and they get called out as possible sticking points when using the software. This book is so good, I'd buy other editions in the series sight-unseen.

For Beginners Only. If you can get around in Logic already this is not the book for you. The format is excellent, but the quality of information is at best beginner to intermediate. Full of typos as well. Anytime a subject needs to be covered in depth, Itā€™s pushed off to a book that doesnā€™t exist yet. Only makes me wary of making another purchase in this series(will the next book defer to the next after that?). Seems more like a carrot on a stick. This was a waste of 2 days reading and $20 for me. Non- enlightening.

The way a Manual should be. Iā€™m a big fan of the GEM series, using it for my video work. I started to learn Logic a recently and there was no question which book to get. I donā€™t even know why people would by a plain text-based manual when these graphically enhanced manuals are available. This is the only manual that describes Logic how it really works. All these diagrams make it so easy to understand even for an app that complex as Logic. I have some friends who are advanced users that I recommended the GEM series and they told me that even they got a lot of new information out of it based on the detailed explanations of the topics. In a month or two Iā€™m sure I can call myself an advanced Logic user too and I canā€™t wait for the follow up book for Logic in this GEM series

Best way to learn logic.. This will be my forth gem series book and I'm sure it wonā€™t be my last. Edgar Rothermich makes this book a joy to read and interact with. Which in turn makes it just plain fun. Definitely a five out of five stars for me.

Fantastic Way to Learn the Apple Pro Apps. I already owned 4 of Edgar's graphically enhanced manuals as PDF's, but wow, his reformatting of the guides in the iBooks format is a surprising improvement on an already terrific way to learn the Apple pro apps. His Logic Pro X manual really helped me to get a quick understanding of the software.

Excellent format!. This format is great for learning. The visual ascpect is very helpful. Being able to click terms and view definitions is also very helpful. I would highly recommend this book for anyone learning Logic.

Great book, but beware advanced users!. I believe the purpose of a rating system is to rate a product for the quality what it is, not what I assumed it was. This claims to be a book that explains how Logic Pro X works, and do so with a different approach to teaching (GEM). It does that and does that very, very well. This is a 5-star book. However, I made the mistake of buying it thinking I might learn something new from it. I didn't learn anything that I don't already know, as an advanced user of Logic. But the title of the book is How It Works. It's not like the author is trying to convince you it's anything other than a beginner's book, with that title. I discovered in the intro of the book that the author is working on a 2nd book called "Logic Pro X The Details" which he expects to release first half of 2014. Had I known this, I would have never bought this, and rather just waited for The Details and bought that. If I had one criticism, it would be that you have to pay for this book to find out there's another more advanced book coming out (unless of course you're in the know or you frequent Logic forums with this info). Perhaps the author could put something about this in the description on Itunes. With all that said, for beginner's to Logic, I believe there isn't a better book out there than this one.

Wonderful introductions that make a sophisticated program substantially more accessible. Edgar Rothermich's Logic Pro X books are wonderful introductions that make a sophisticated program substantially more accessible. I am a professional composer and orchestrator, and I have read a LOT of software manuals. Most manuals are designed as references, and to understand them you usually have to be simultaneously using the software. Rothermich's approach, although technical and precise, is based on a conversational style and is focused on understanding instead of step-by-step how-to instructions. It's highly visual, and as a result nothing is left to the imagination. The end result is books you can read through from top to bottom, gaining an understanding of the software BEFORE fiddling with it. I highly recommend Rothermich's books for the beginner and intermediate user. They are so well organized that they could be the textbook for a semester-long course, but so easy to read that you might get through them in a week.

Amazing - Leveled up my production. When I upgraded to Logic Pro X, I was initially overwhelmed by all the new features, integrated Environment, and other enhancements. I have to say that this book really helped flatten the learning curve of upgradingā€”after all, the whole point of upgrading any software is to be able to make use of its new features. This book has more than paid for itself in how much better Iā€™ve been able to use my DAW of choiceā€”and how much faster I am at making music. Instabuy.

Excellent Study of Logic Pro X. I have been using Logic since Vs. 6. And while this book is a bit geared towards beginners, there is still plenty for more advanced users. There are things I learned in this book that I either forgot or never fully understood - and they way Edgar presents the info is top notch. I really recommend this book for both beginners and Logic Users who want to refresh their Logic Pro knowledge.

Best Logic Book out there. This book is really a ā€œGEMā€. I havenā€™t seen any book where the author puts so much effort in even the smallest detail. I learned so much beyond Logic itself because the author seem to care about the reader/user and explains even non-Logic topics that might be important to understand the Logic topic itself. Especially for me, upgrading from GarageBand, I needed all the help I could get. Iā€™m really impressed. Thanks for such a great book.

The Best Way To Learn Logic.. This book is clear, concise, and very thorough. Unlike so many software learning books, itā€™s a very smooth read. The diagrams make complicated processes seem simple. If you want to understand Logic Pro X, I canā€™t imagine a better way to learn the ins and outs of the software, and this recommendation includes everyone from beginners to fully professional users (I use Logic for my scoring work). Get it.

Splendid in every way.. Edgar Rothermich's enhanced eBook on Logic Pro X is, simply, the finest DAW "manual" (though it is far more) I've ever encountered. I've been in the audio production business for over 35 years, and having made the digital transition to DECK II and then Pro Tools, I've seen more than my share of documentation. This is the bomb! Edgar assumes nothing in this first of two books on LPX; he takes the reader through the basics of eBooks, digital audio, and then guns blazing into the heart of Logic Pro X. A look at Mr. Rothermich's credentials will get your attention. He know his stuff like Scotty knows the Enterprise. But guess what - he is also a fine writer, communicator and teacher. His writing is friendly and engaging without being patronizing. You get the medicine AND the sugar, and in a way that will make Logic Pro X seem like home. I've had my share of head-scratching with earlier versions of Logic. After 15 years of Pro Tools, some of this old leopard's spots are kinda persistent. But I expect LPX - HIT to get me not just up to speed, but doing things in Logic I couldn't have dreamed of in Pro Tools. If you've made the investment (a cheeeep $199 for a world-class DAW), don't think twice about taking on another $19.99 for this set of keys to that kingdom. You will not be sorry. DingDingMusic offers the book in numerous formats - just append a slash and the word "manuals" to see your choices. But if you're working with an iPad and like the extended eBook format iBooks allows, this is the route to take. Bravo to Edgar for a mighty accomplishment, and don't forget to check out his other GEM books. Bravo, bravo.

owner. If you are a first time Logic Userā€¦. or especially if you plan to make Logic X your main DAW platform, you need this book. Really, you need all of Edgarā€™s books. Well written from a long time user, now in these days where software doesnā€™t come with any real manual other than maybe a pdf file, this book will take you where you need to go. Fire it up on your iPad, or extra monitor as you work. You will be turning to it allot even if you are an experienced user. Iā€™ve been using Logic since back in the days of Emagic.. ,ā€¦ a long time. And this Ibook version is special too, I have pdf and Ibook versions. You want the ibook. The format is perfect for the presentation of information and quick learning.

Great, Easy-To-Follow Reference!. Previously, I bought the "Apple Pro Training Series" book (print version) on Logic Pro X. That one is a classroom-in-a-book. Good for teaching specific things, but may leave you wondering exactly what you had just accomplished. "How It Works" is great for reference and as cover says, "Understand, not just learn." The iBooks version is especially nice, due to the added enhancements, including a well done interactive glossary. This book does a great job of explaining the ins and outs of LPX, so it works quite well on its own. Definitely my go-to LPX reference book! It also works well as a companion/extension to David Nahmani's training book!

The new Gold Standard - for beginners and advanced. Iā€™m using Logic since version 5 and finally made the switch from L9 of Logic Pro X. Of all the manuals for LPX I checked out, this is by far the best one. The content is explained with such details and effort, it leaves virtually no questions unanswered. Especially the interactivity in this iBook version is unique and not provided by any other book. It speeded up my learning process tremendously. Because Iā€™m familiar with the basic concept of Logic I could focus on the new stuff and brush up on some existing concepts. I completely disagree with another review that this manual is only for beginners. I consider myself quite the advanced user but found lots of information I didnā€™t know before. I also like the detailed explanations and analogies. Even knowing many concepts this made it even more clear to me. I highly recommend this unique book to beginners and advanced users alike. It is the gold standard for writing manuals and I can't wait for the follow-up book with all the rest of Logic's features.

Unbeatable Price. I was blown away by the amount of (detailed) information that is in this book. I always thought eBooks should be cheap but the bang for the bucks in this book is unbelievable. $20 is actually cheap.

All the facts!. A most complete look at the Logic 10.1. Using a groundbreaking graphic layout, this book really covers the ins and out of the program like few others. It is a real iBookk too with all the useful features therein. Edgar uses examples from a pop band's point of view to explain the Logic system from the inside out. I enjoyed it, and use it as a reference and highly recommend it to others.

Excellent Book. Edgar does an excellent job of making a complex program understandable. If you're serious about learning logic buy this book. It's simply the best.

What a book - unbelievable. I used GarageBand before and was a little hesitant to move up to the big league with Logic. Knowing the Graphically Enhanced Manuals and being familiar with the Garagebna app, I took the plunge. Wow, this book makes things so much easier to understand even the more challenging topics. I especially love the interactive Glossary. He put even graphics in those, unbelievable. Donā€™t think twice, this is the book if you use Logic or thinking about using Logic.

In a league of its own. I never new that learning could be so much fun and engaging until I discovered this book series ā€œGEMā€. Manuals should only be available in this interactive textbook style. The apps nowadays are so complex and just reading through a text manual is just too frustrating and tedious. With this interactive book I can read, and every important term is hyperlinked. I click on it and a small overlay window pops up with the explanation (even with graphics, whow). This way, I can start reading anywhere in the book. I can even learn Logic by going through the cross-referenced glossary. Did I mention that it is also ā€œgraphically enhancedā€? AN amazing piece of work.

What a treasure. My favorite learning experience. Easy to read, very entertaining, rich on graphics and tons of information packed in there. Actually, I have other books from this author and his books are getting better and better. I used Logic on and off since v8 (plus GarageBand) and I found information in this book that Iā€™ve never new before even basic stuff that was always hidden. Now I know, if you really want to use and understand Logic, this is the book you need, no way around. Nobody else explains it like that. Highly recommend that one.

Best reference book I've ever seen for LPX. I'm a experienced Logic user that managed to learn Logic through trial & error, the dreaded Logic Manual, and YouTube. Wish I would have had this back when I started. Really like the visual "show and tell" style of this book...and the fact that it updates itself along with Logic is a godsend! In other books whenever Logic updates with new features you'd have to wait and purchase either an updated book if/when it eventually came out, a separate addendum, or do without. The fact that this actually updates for free along with Logic is unbelievable! As far as I know it's the only Logic book that does this. That alone makes it a great buy. The visual style is also much easier to grasp than the technical lingo you'll find in most other books and Logic's own manual. I'd suggest this book for anybody at the beginner to early/mid intermediate level learning Logic. Pro users looking for advanced info (like diving under the hood in the Logic Environment) will find the book to basic for them but the fact that it updates along with Logic could easily make it worth while for even pro users. I can't wait for the advanced volume of this book (Logic Pro X: The Details) to hit iBooks. Really wanna finally start diving under the hood in Logic. Especially the Logic "Environment".

Iā€™m Impressed. Another hit from the Graphically Enhanced Manuals series. Never can go wrong with those books.

The Band Analogy - now I get it. I like this book series. Have other books from the same author too and learned so much through his graphical style and interesting analogies. Logic has a few ā€œunique" features that are a little bit hard to understand. With his explanations I finally get it. Especially the Band Analogy is great to explain how Logic works - genius.

The Best. He did it again. I have several books from this author and love his style of teaching concepts, simple or complicated, with his easy to understand graphics and diagrams. I was really looking forward to this Logic book and it is just great. Love to learn again. Highly recommend It

Look no further. This is the ultimate Logic guide. I used GarageBand and wanted to upgrade but was always afraid of this flagship app. Having read the other manuals from the Graphically Enhance Manuals series I was confident to manage the task with the help of this book. I was right. It is actually fun to learn this ā€œbigā€ app and I feel empowered to understand and use those great features in Logic Pro X. I moved up to the pro league and so can you.

Excellent Visually based Guide to Logic Pro X. This is one of the best, if not the best, visually based guides to using Logic Pro X. The added value of the graphics and multi touch feature to the iBooks version is hard to deny. I also want to add that Edgar is a very helpful member of the Logic Pro Apple Community and so his work on this book reflects his willingness to share his knowledge, providing a great way of learning all the important element of Logic in a manner that most people will find both enjoyable and informative. Highly recommended indeed!

Still the best Logic Books. I have many of the books of the ā€œGraphically Enhanced Manualsā€ series and I have a read of few other (more conventional) books and I must say. These are still the best on the market. No comparison. The interactivity of these Enhanced versions set them even more apart from the rest.

Incredible learning tool!. Not only is Edgarā€™s new Logic Pro X Manual outstanding, all his manuals that use this ā€˜easy to followā€™ visual method of teaching are well worth the money. You learn faster and are able to get things done sooner.

This is the one to buy!. Much better that anything Apple has ever written!

Iā€™m hooked. Best book Iā€™ve ever learned with, or should I say experienced. Highly recommend that one !!!

This is only part one?. I bought this book because it was advertised as a complete resource for Logic Pro X and that its rich graphics were a new concept- the GEM concept. These graphics are just big pictures. Nothing more. The most upsetting thing I discovered was that I now need a second book to learn about the Advanced topics. I was especially interested in the music notation features, but they are not covered in this volume. So much for a complete resource.

Logic Pro X How It Works. These GEM books are the way to go. I call them GEM, too - Great Educational Method! Pictures is how I learn best, and Iā€™m not ashamed to say so. Keep up the great work, Edgar. Thank you very much!

The Knowledge!. Fully lives up to the promise of imparting an understanding of Logic. Edgarā€™s work gives the Logic Pro equivalent to the London taxi driverā€™s qualification known as ā€œThe Knowledgeā€. You will learn the pros and cons of every possible way you could get from A to B. There is also humour and constructive criticism that you willl not find elsewhere.

Excellent and innovative book. This is a great book both for newcomers to Logic and experience users. Very nicely formatted and well written. Btw I'm in the UK and bought the book without problems. Looking forward to the advanced book.

all youā€™ll ever need to master Logic Pro X. Whether you are a beginner in Logic or, like myself, stepping up from Logic 9, this is the reference to have and represents seriously good value. The authorā€™s graphical approach is key - everything is in front of you, not buried in sub chapters - you see the ā€˜bigā€™ picture, you learn faster, you retain more. I canā€™t wait for the advanced version.

Now I understand Logic. At last a clear guide that gives you an understanding of how logic works and how to make it work for you rahter than a rehash of the features and how to use them.

In depth info.. Great to reference while ear deep in Logic, it gives you knowledge to a depth you didnā€™t realise necessary and covers the whats and whys of this rather complex program. If i was picky iā€™d say there was one too many cross promotional references to the next book but im looking forward to it anyway. Well done

Essential. This excellent book along with my subscription to macProvideo has been an absolute essential part of my mastering of Logic Pro X. I am new to the Logic Pro DAW and this book has saved me hours of valuable time, much more depth than the (very good) Apple documentation. Highly recommended.

Worth twice the price. I think I am 50 % more productive since this book! And no more afraid to go deeper when needed. The one is never far from me!

My Go To Book on Logic Pro. Having graduated from GrarageBand to Logic Pro, this manual has become my main reference. Easy reading with excellent visuals have made learning the intricacies of Logic a pleasant, fun and rewarding experience. Highly recommended.

Getā€™s to the point. A lot of Apple documents tell you what you can do, but often donā€™t doa good job of telling you how to do it, or why youā€™d want to. This book fills that gap. It gets to the point quickly, telling you the purpose of a set of features and functions, and how to use them to do what you want. For the new features, you get a good idea of what is going on behind the GUI. The book also deals in a transparent way with confusing or poorly implemented aspects of Logic. If the Logic manual leaves you saying ā€œhuh?ā€, this is the book you need.

Impressive - I adore. It is an enormous work, very well executed. This new approach to explain things visually is very innovative. The explanations are clear and precise and easy to understand. I look forward to the next book on Logic Pro X.
