Flesh and Blood by Patricia Cornwell Book Summary

In this Kay Scarpetta novel, the master forensic sleuth finds herself in the unsettling pursuit of a serial sniper who leaves no incriminating evidence except fragments of copper.

It’s Dr. Kay Scarpetta’s birthday, and she’s about to head to Miami for a vacation with Benton Wesley, her FBI profiler husband, when she notices seven pennies on a wall behind their Cambridge house. Is this a kids’ game? If so, why are all of the coins dated 1981 and so shiny they could be newly minted? Her cellphone rings, and Detective Pete Marino tells her there’s been a homicide five minutes away. A high school music teacher has been shot with uncanny precision as he unloaded groceries from his car. No one has heard or seen a thing.

The shots seem impossible, yet they are so perfect they cause instant death. The victims appear to have had nothing in common, and there is no pattern to indicate where the killer will strike next. First New Jersey, then Massachusetts, and then the murky depths off the coast of South Florida, where Scarpetta investigates a shipwreck, looking for answers that only she can discover and analyze. And it is there that she comes face to face with shocking evidence that implicates her techno genius niece, Lucy, Scarpetta’s own flesh and blood.

Flesh and Blood. Easily one of the worst books in the Scarpetta series. Avoid it!!

Compelling. In one word this is what I think of Patricia Cornwell's writing generically speaking. I have read all of her novels starting in 1997 on a by-chance suggestion. Thank you Patti C for your compelling work!

Flesh And Blood. Page turner with mind blowing plot twists.

Flesh and Blood. excellent!

Dull. This is the last Scarpitta novel I am buying. I used to love stories about Kay. Unfortunately, they bore me now and I struggle to get through them now. Don't know what happened the writer but the thrill is just not there.

Flesh and Blood. Scarpetta is always an excellent read. Less medical details than most which always adds to the realism but another good and “don’t want to put the book down.”

Flesh and Blood. Very good book. Can't wait for the next one !!!

Just ok. Not sure why I keep reading her books. This was like the last few - just ok.

Flesh and Blood. Moves along at the usual brisk pace of a Cornwell novel. Enjoyed the interactions between the main characters. The ending left me wishing the next book would arrive around Christmas.

Just boring. Too many repeated ideas, yawn.

Flesh and blood. Poor

Flesh and Blood. Boring, it skipped around so much it was hard to follow. Disappointing ending and the last word made no sense.

Ugh. A third of the way through and I'm bored stiff. Hard to follow after a promising start.

Flesh and blood. Was not expecting this ending. could be done right and then go on to the next book. Then I might read another book by this author it has happened before and have just started reading again thinking the next book would would be different. Not doing any more books by this author any time soon. Maybe five years

How could she do it?. Sorry, but Stephen King did the same thing in the Dark Tower Series...go on, leave us hanging like the end of a chapter (instead of the end of the book). I'm disappointed- it's so incomplete and I'm sure to be continued....but why not at least resolve at least one thing?

Benton is NOT a Pendergast!. It seems as though Ms Cornwell has been reading a lot of Lincoln & Child and trying to turn Benton into her version of an Agent Pendergast. It’s an epic fail and she should stop. Stick to what you know, forensic science, and stay out of L&C’s lane.

Disappointed. Come up with new material. And then you leave it with the door open to bring Carrie back again.

Another Stinker. Why do I buy her books? Missed several and regret spending time and money for this one. Terrible ending.

Flesh and Blood. Horrible. The plot never developed. Lousy ending. My very last Cornwell book.

Flesh and blood. Great book!

Flesh and blood. This is not up to Cornwall's normal standard. The entire book is a set up for her next book. It does an ok job of setting up a dilemna, but then ends as the reader meets the cause of the problems. Nothing is resolved, leaving the reader flat and i guess "wanting" to read her next book to see how it gets resolved. Boring. If all future books become a precursor set of chapters for future books, i will likely stop purchasing. Still believe this genre of books should have beginnings, middles and endings. No problem with subplots, but thats where they should stay --sub/secondary- not primary.

Flesh and Blood. Excellent book- quick reader!

Flesh and blood. As usual, Cornwall is fantastic!!

Grey. I hate to admit it was kinda boring and disappointing!

Old Sweater. I have read every Patricia Cornwell book. The characters are like family that you ensconce yourself in like an old sweater. And like old sweaters sometimes they just don't hold their shape and become to frayed around the edges to bring out of the closet anymore, like her characters have. They no longer evolve, or shown change or growth or even depth. They have become flat, one dimensional parodies. If the next book follows the course (safe and uninteresting ) and her mother is shot and not Marino? Well, I'm afraid that old rag will go into the bargain bin of discarded sweaters. Belief I will just read the Cliff notes.

One of my favorite authors. I love how smart and strong and vulnerable her main women characters are. I highly recommend Patricia Cornwell's books. That said, I sometimes get tired of the relationship between Kay and Marino. As much as I like both characters I find myself sometimes wishing that Marino would get knocked off so we don't have to spend so much time on his character defaults. I would like more of Benton and Kay's niece Lucy to be featured in the books. I also would love it if Benton and Lucy got their own books featuring them and what goes on in their heads. I am eagerly awaiting the next book! Thank you Patricia Cornwell for your great writing.

Flesh & Blood. This new release by Patricia Cromwell needs to take us to some future story, but needs a temporary Conclusion.......not sure I am on board for the follow up?

Flesh and Blood. Old habits are hard to break but I've got to let Kay Scarpetta go. This last one was a retread and ended with a bang that killed my further interest. It was just insulting.

Flesh and Blood. There is just too much talking about too many people. I got lost in the conversations and then lost interest. I like this series but find it hard to follow.
