Forbidden the Stars by Valmore Daniels Book Summary

At the end of the 21st century, a catastrophic accident in the asteroid belt has left two surveyors dead. There is no trace of their young son, Alex Manez, or of the asteroid itself.

On the outer edge of the solar system, the first manned mission to Pluto, led by the youngest female astronaut in NASA history, has made an historic discovery: there is a marker left there by an alien race for humankind to find. We are not alone!

While studying the alien marker, it begins to react and, four hours later, the missing asteroid appears in a Plutonian orbit, along with young Alex Manez, who has developed some alarming side-effects from his exposure to the kinetic element they call Kinemet.

From the depths of a criminal empire based on Luna, an expatriate seizes the opportunity to wrest control of outer space, and takes swift action.

The secret to faster-than-light speed is up for grabs, and the race for interstellar space begins!

Riveting. While the technical & scientific jargon is quite prevalent, it does not detract from the story. Those who don't understand it may find themselves quickly stopping their read. But, if they stick with it, it's a very fascinating and interesting story. It kept me glued to the book. I am familiar with some of the jargon, & some I am not. However, I enjoyed this book immensely. I now need to read the others. LK Kelley - author.

Nice try. This book reads like it was written by a very talented 9th grader. The science it includes is the only competent part of it; the sentences and storytelling and characterization all give this book the reek of “passion project.” I normally wouldn’t be so harsh were it not for the fact that the author has seemingly never met a human woman before, and thus has difficulty conceiving of important, plot driving discussions that include them. Seriously, the already bad writing is at its worst when it becomes clear that the author is trying to give female characters an inner life, and just... can’t. The world-building is a mess; the pacing is a mess — it’s all just a mess. Two stars for taking us to Pluto (although it could have been any purple world, for all the description we get.)

Forbidden The Stars. Interesting book.

Bravo. Description says it left 2 survivors dead"clap""clap"bravo

Brilliant. Brilliant book to read. I had myself enthralled in this. I recommend it, a real page turner!

Excellent. I'm seldom spurred from my natural sloth to bother writing a review, but have found myself feeling so indebted to this new author for having provided a tale worthy of my favourites such as A. C. Clarke, I. M. Banks, Greg Bear or even almost Greg Egan. "Forbidden the Stars" was even free, and thus obviously worth every penny, and despite my sadly impecunious state I'm severely tempted to save my brew money and invest in the next instalment. I prefer hard SF with science I would at least like to believe in and feel that this book passes that qualification easily, (although fantasy such as Jack Vance's or mad ideas like Robert Sheckley pass my litmus test too). I don't like stories getting bogged down in politics unless they are satirical like S. Lem's great "Memoirs found in a bathtub", and felt that this book managed to escape that pitfall admirably. 90%

Very enjoyable and entertaining. This trilogy is a great read. Well written and imaginative. I'm starting to sample others from this author now....so far so good.

It pulls you in right away. I have read all three books int he trilogy. This is the best one. It sets everything up. All the characters are new, the story is new and I am trying to figure out what is going to happen next. I find myself skipping pages in many book when it seems there are too many side story. Not here. Not in book one. This is a hard one to put down. When I am having to make dinner for my little one, I loa it up on my Mac and have it read it so I don’t miss anything. Give this book a try. Its terrific. Book too is a lot slower and book three speeds things up again. Cant believe iBooks is offering this one for free right now!

Not bad but…. Not bad if you can get past the lack of editing. It is very annoying to read something that has potential to be a pretty good sci-fi read only to be constantly distracted by bad grammar. I would be embarrassed to release something I’ve crafted so poorly. I decided not to continue with the series because of this.
