The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins Book Summary

The #1 New York Times bestseller, USA Today Book of the Year and now a major motion picture starring Emily Blunt.

Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple having breakfast on their deck. She's even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life—as she sees it—is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

And then she sees something shocking. It's only a minute until the train moves on, but it's enough. Now everything's changed. Unable to keep it to herself, Rachel goes to the police. But is she really as unreliable as they say? Soon she is deeply entangled not only in the investigation but in the lives of everyone involved. Has she done more harm than good?

Annoying. The main character is the worst. It was hard to get through because she was so annoying. I think you're supposed to sympathize with her but it's impossible to do so. The idea of the storyline is interesting I guess but the characters are so terrible it is hard to get through. I'm not sure how this has such glowing reviews. It really is a terrible book.

U. I lovedi

Enticing. I read this book over the course of 10 days. At first, I read it in small sections, almost daily, skipping 1 or two days only. When I got to the halfway point, I read it at an exponentially quick pace - and I read the last 100 pages in the same night. This book offers three different perspectives, warping the timelines perfectly to leave the reader always wondering what’s gonna happen next. The three main characters, all women, are sometimes relatable, as none of them live perfect lives - they deal with internal and external battles of their own, their stories unfolding before our eyes... slowly colliding, accelerating the story so much more. This murder mystery book had an ending I was not prepared for, and I don’t think anyone else was, which is why the ratings and reviews are only good for this nice.

Girl on the Train. Captivating. Ended up reading it in 4 days, as time permitted.

I just love it. I read it in Spanish and English and both ways I got stuck trying to figure out how everything was going to end

Great!. Paula Hawkins style of writing is concise yet but still holds my attention. And that’s great considering I have some attention deficit. I would gladly read any of her books.

The girl on the train. It takes a lot now days for a book to fully pull me in because of my busy schedule but I found myself staying up late in order to read just a little more. I feel like you could’ve figured out the ending easily but I was so invested I decided not to think about it. Rach is a very relatable character and I think if you’re looking for a fast paced book to read, this is it.

Quick fun read. It was an easy read. I enjoyed the mystery of it all.

Amazing. It was amazing. Best book I’ve read

amazing. so many twists and a killer ending.. this book captivated me from the start and i was so attached to the story all the way through. being able to see the story through the eyes of each of the three women made the plot so complex and that much more satisfying when it was resolved. 10/10 writing! i loved it!!

Good Not Great. A chilling perspective into the lives of others and what secrets are better left behind closed doors. I enjoyed this novel, but guessed at the story turning points after the first chapter. An interesting concept with unremarkable execution.

Damnfam. Books mad crazy mad lit too

Thriller with a Big Twist. This book was hard to put down from the moment I started reading. The twists and turns don’t end, with the end being the biggest twist. It’s very well written with lots of imagery. Highly recommend for those that love a thriller, mystery, mixed with obsession and forbidden romances.

Good book. Found on Siri

Fantastic Storytelling. This was one hell of a story. I’m an avid reader and truly could not put this book down (well, my iPad at least). Well done Ms.Hawkins, well done.

Suspenseful read. I really enjoyed this book! It was very well written I couldn’t stop reading

Entertaining. Interesting, but not interesting enough to not be able to put it down.

Fantastic. Absolutely amazing!

Fantastic must-read. Easily one of the best books I’ve ever read! Incredibly difficult to put down once it gets really going!

I haven’t read for fun in ages. I haven’t had time to read in ages, accidentally bought this book while trying to buy a book for a college course. Decided over a weekend of travels that I’d read it. Took me less than 48 hours, I could barely put it down. Never once did I get bored. Fell asleep at night reading it. I couldn’t put it down. A must read! Only reason I take a star off is because there’s always that “I want to know what happens to these characters at the end” questions that you can only ponder and make up to conclude what happens to them in the end. I do recommend.

❤️. ❤️❤️❤️

Awesome. I'm glad I read book before I watched the movie. A great read!!! Wow until the end!

Couldn’t put it down. Gripping

Great book. Had me guessing until the very end. Couldn’t put the book down. Love the way it’s written

A solid psychological thriller. While it does contain many genre tropes and some predictable plot turns. The novel succeeds because of great descriptions, interesting themes and a surprising ending.

Amazing. I couldn’t put this book down.. loved it

Couldn't put it down!. My first thriller! What to read next? Fav book so far!

Awesomeeeee. Amazing book

Eyes Glued. I couldn’t put this book down. The suspense and mystery were perfectly blended. I have yet to see the movie and I’m afraid to because this quickly became one of my favorite books.

Suspenseful and dramatic. Really enjoyed this novel. Very unexpecting twist. Also, a tear jerker. Highly recommended if you are into suspense.

A Predictable Mess. This Book Was ALL OVER the place!!! Kept having to go back to Chapters, & figure out what Day I was On!!?? Didn't mind, the different characters perspective!! However, would've been a MUCH SMOTHER & BETTER READ, if the storyline was told, chronologically by each individual!!

Disappointing. The plot was interesting, but the characters were all so morally and emotionally bankrupt that I stopped caring what happened to any of them. The last few chapters played out like a bad episode of Jerry Springer. It would have been nice if at least one character had a redeeming quality.

The Girl On The Train. Excellent Turn pager! Better than the movie.

Amazing. This has got to be as good as Gone Girl. Looking forward to the movie!

So suspenseful. So good

Depressing & too long. Couldn’t wait to get to the end so I could move on to a good book. This is a familiar story about abusive men and the women who finally have the courage to take action. Movie versions are 2hrs but to spend hours reading this common story. Pass. The timeline mixup is the only creativity this book has. Again pass.

Dull and boring. Go in to the mind of a sniveling amoral crybaby.

Incredibly addictive and crazy page turner. From the beginning, this book captures you and will not let you go until the very end. And when it ends, you will have wished it hadn’t! Fabulous writing! Brilliantly thought out characters and full of so much suspense. Love it!

Incomparable. Absolutely brilliant. Started 10/22, finished 10/30. Even years later, it still sends chills down your spine. Brilliant

Addictive. Once you catch this train, there is no getting off. This is a great book.

Thrilling and surprising. The only reason why I’m giving this four stars is because I briefly-although I still wasn’t sure until the end of the book-knew who was involved in the mystery. Just by the way everyone acted I knew it wasn’t that character or that character and the ending was pretty predictable by the prologue. But it still shocked me on how everyone’s lives truly were and the way peoples behaviors shifted and the clues shifted and that’s when I really couldn’t stop turning the pages. I still recommend this book.

Good book. Thriller

Unreliable narrator(s). Good plot, took a while to pick up speed, but once it did it was hard to put it down. The extreme alcoholism however was kind of difficult to stomach, but I suppose it created a very realistic viewpoint.

The Girl on the Train. Loved the book. Could not put it down. The characters came to life for me. Kept me guessing the whole book.

Great last third. Advice: jot down who is who and perhaps the dates at first. I got kind of confused (which might be due to my aging brain). But great final portion of the book!

Disappointing. I was looking for a page-turner for vacation and decided to read this based off of the majority of positive reviews. This book was a huge disappointment. Definitely not a page-turner and took me weeks to force myself through it. It is pretty obvious who the murderer is, but I kept reading, hoping for some interesting or surprise explanation for why, but again was disappointed.

A bit over the top. Reads so much like a melodramatic soap opera. Lots of marital spats, infidelity, the shrink, drunken spouses…oh yes, and somewhere in here is a murder mystery

Best book ever!!!. I could not put this book down! By far the most exciting book i have ever read!

Brilliant. Great read, wonderfully twisted. Now I’m excited to see the movie and compare.

The girl on tbe train. Loved the story
