诗云:天公局法乱如麻,十对夫妻九配差。
常使娇莺栖老树,惯教顽石伴奇花。
合欢床上眠仇侣,交颈帏中带软枷。
只有鸳鸯无错配,不须梦里抱琵琶。
这首诗单说世上姻缘一事,错配者多,使人不能无恨。这种恨与别的心事不同,别的心事可以说得出,医得好,推有这桩心事,叫做哑子愁、终身病,是说不出、医不好的。若是美男子娶了丑妇人,还好到朋友面前去诉诉苦,姐妹人家去遣遣兴,纵然改正不得,也还有个娶妾讨婢的后门。只有美妻嫁了丑夫,才女配了俗子,止有两扇死门,并无半条生路,这才叫做真苦。古来“红颜薄命”四个字已说尽了,只是这四个字,也要解得明白:不是因她有了红颜,然后才薄命;只为她应该薄命,所以才罚做红颜。但凡生出个红颜妇人来,就是薄命之坯了,哪里还有好丈夫到她嫁,好福分到她享?当初有个病人,死去三日又活转来,说曾在地狱中看见阎王升殿,鬼判带许多恶人听他审录。他逐个酌其罪之轻重,都罚他变猪变狗、变牛变马去了,只有一个极恶之人,没有什么变得,阎王想了一会,点点头道:“罚你做一个绝标致的妇人,嫁一个极丑陋的男子,夫妻都活百岁,将你禁铺终身,才凖折得你的罪业。”那恶人只道罪重罚轻,欢欢喜喜地去了。判官问道:“他的罪案如山,就变做猪狗牛马,还不足以尽其辜,为何反得这般美报?”阎王道:“你哪里晓得,猪狗牛马虽是个畜生,倒落得无知无识,受别人豢养终身,不多几年,便可超生转世;就是临死受刑,也不过是一刀之苦。那妇人有了绝标致的颜色,一定乖巧聪明,心高志大,要想嫁潘安、宋玉一般的男子。及至配了个愚丑丈夫,自然心志不遂,终日忧煎涕泣,度日如年。
