昔曹大家《女诫》云:“女有四行:一曰妇德,二曰妇言,三曰妇容,四曰妇功。”此四者,女人之大节而不可无者也。今开卷为何以班昭《女诫》作引?盖此书所载虽闺阁琐事,儿女闲情,然如大家所谓四行者,历历有人:不惟金玉其质,亦且冰雪为心。非素日恪遵《女诫》,敬守良箴,何能至此?岂可因事涉杳渺,人有妍媸,一并使之泯灭?故于灯前月夕,长夏余冬,濡毫戏墨,汇为一编;其贤者彰之,不肖者鄙之;女有为女,妇有为妇;常有为常,变有为变。所叙虽近琐细,而曲终之奏,要归于正,淫词秽语,概所不录。其中奇奇幻幻,悉由群劳被谪,以发其端,试观首卷,便知梗概。
