Surviving the Evacuation, Book 1: London by Frank Tayell Book Summary

The outbreak began in New York. Soon it had spread to the rest of the world. People were attacked, infected, and they died. Then they came back. Nowhere is safe from the undead.

As nations fell, anarchy and civil war took grip across the globe, Britain was quarantined. The press was nationalised. Martial law, curfews, rationing, it wasn't enough. An evacuation was planned for the major cities.

Bill Wright broke his leg on the day of the outbreak. Unable to join the evacuation, he watched from his window as the streets filled with refugees. He watched as the streets emptied once more. He watched as they filled up again, this time with the undead.

He is trapped. He is alone. He is running out of food and water. He knows that to reach the safety of the enclaves he will have to venture out into the wasteland that once was England. On that journey he will ultimately discover the horrific truth behind a decades old conspiracy.

This is the first volume of his journal. (74,000 words)

Awesome ! Realistic read. I liked this book it was realistic, at least to me . You really get attached to the author you want him to succeed . I felt his disappointments and his successes. Only complaint that's it's too short and can be a tad bit predictable but really if you're an avid reader most plots you figure out anyway . Anyway solid read

Amazing book. Defiantly worth the time. Ready to start on the 2nd book

Surviving the Evacuation London. Gripping post-apocalyptic novel that keeps you turning the pages and rooting for the hero. Well written, intense action and likable characters.

šŸ‘. Decent book, in the beginning it was relatively predictable but towards the end it was hard to guess what would happen next.

Great fast read. I thoroughly enjoyed this zombie book. Well written well paced and views a zombie apocalypse in a way I haven't seen before despite watching lots of zombies shows and movies and reason many zombie books. Definitely worth reading I just downloaded the second and third books too!

Great zombie book. Ok, so the first few chapters are kind of hard to get through. I almost gave up hope, but hang on, it does get good. Its refreshing to see some real character development in an apocalyptic story. And I am very excited for the next book. Its like the author was finding himself in writing this book. Very cool and enjoyable.

Love this book!. Great read!

Good. Iā€™m not even a full chapter in and I like it! But the beginning is kinda confusing

Loved it!. I was enthralled. Canā€™t wait to start the next book!

Worth read. An interesting story that had some page turning moments, however i often found my self skimming through certain parts. Could have had some more nail biting, cant put this down, kind of moments but over all i did enjoy reading this book, intereted in seeing how the next one is.

Wasteland. A good read. I enjoyed it

Great story. and even greater series. Canā€™t wait for the next!

Left me feeling empty.. Fantastic read, couldnā€™t put it down. It scared me half to death but at the same time triggered a morbid curiosity. Not sure if Iā€™ll be able to read the whole series one after the other, as this book was a little sobering and depressing due to the images it conjured up in my head. I suppose this is a credit to the descriptive writing. Not a holiday read. Take a break, and donā€™t think about the book when youā€™re not reading it. Itā€™s fiction... or so we hope!

Great book!. I was bored exploring apps I never used and this caught my eye... Iā€™m glad it did as it was thrilling and can get your mind working!

Amazing!!!. Couldn't put this book down was brilliant finished it in one weekend will be buying the others! I've read a lot of zombie books never one like this love how it's written by far my favourite book!

London. I enjoyed the book, written with honestly and sincerity, sounded like it really was a journal

Evacuating London. Great holiday read. Refreshing approach to the layout and story line.

Why not. This book is really funny and is also full of action bit violent just read it

Great but a little dull in parts. The opening was great and I thought it was a good idea to have his broken leg, essentially trapped in his own home and own body, although this was good there was a huge section of the book where he is still in his home, this became a bit boring in parts, Iā€™d have liked to have seen the diary entries a few days apart to speed up how recovery or have something happen to force him out sooner. Once out of the house the book became more interesting about the scavenging and finding safety and food but the book really didnā€™t have much direction other than supplies once he abandoned his original plan of a boat, even times where Iā€™d have liked him to stay at one of the locations to rest his leg yet he chose to leave which didnā€™t make sense. Finally the ending was unexpected and leads onto the second book, with some interesting points from this and the prequel book Iā€™m intrigued to see how the writer takes the direction of this characters story. So I will read book 2 to find out.

Great work!. As a fan of zombie films/books I've seen/read a few but I found this book has a slight twist from the usual plots associated with this genre. Just bought the second book and hoping the fresh ideas carry on!

Addictive!. Couldn't put this down. From the first few pages I was hooked. A diary of 1 man stuck on his own for months at first seems boring but it's very much the opposite! Glad I read this now, looking forward to ploughing through the others.

For the love of zombies.... I have just discovered your books! I have to say, I have really enjoyed this one. I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves zombies, or to anyone who loves a good read. I will be purchasing your other titles!

Zombies with brains*. How refreshing, an intelligently written and researched zombie novel, with an insight into post terror-threat city disaster protocols. Thought provoking exposition on the plausible realities of a governmental approach to an apocalyptic survival scenario. Needless to say it was an enjoyable read and I look forward to the next instalment.

Amazing. I only started the first book last week and I'm already on the 4th! I just can't stop reading! It's really good!!

Excellent Zombie Fare. I stumbled across this series by accident and have read them all in a few days as they came out. The characters all act in believable ways and the way the story is plotted everything ties together well without feeling forced. I haven't given five stars as I reserve that rating for classics like WWZ but you will enjoy the tale.

Worth it. You wonā€™t be disappointed. Not my usual genre to read but am absolutely hooked

British Zombie Fiction at its Best!. British zombie fiction is hard to find, I stumbled accross this in my search. Its a great read (the whole series is). Its suspensful, well thought out and not just a long story about guns (as so much zombie fiction is). I canā€™t recomend it highly enough.

Good read!. I don't read books, but I like Zombies so I gave this a try and it was well worth the read. Even gave a reason how the virus was created and how the world fell apart where normally you never find out.

Wonderful.. Like many who have found their way to this series, I'm a huge fan of the apocalyptic genre, especially those featuring the undead/zombies/walkers. As such I have read many books of this ilk, be they stand alone pieces or a series, those considered 'classics' of the theme or new contenders. This series though stands out: the circumstances that create the meat to the story is well thought out, believable and managed well across all the books. The books themselves are written in a manner that is easy to digest and allows the reader to be completely absorbed: hours have flown by whilst I've been reading, blissfully unaware of my own surroundings. The characters are excellent, memorable and balanced enough that I haven't found myself having to turn back sections trying to work out whom is who, and what their role is and the main stars of the piece, the zombies, are described well, notable for their almost serene single minded and relentless pursuit of the living. There are no gimmicks to distract the reader, such as the inexplicable appearance of fast zombies or deus ex machina plot resolutions just the never ending, never tiring, unrelenting tide of the undead, marching onwards ad infinitum, whilst the living scrape a living trying to hide.

If you like zompoc read this!!. Great read, you start rooting for the main character the further along you get in the story. Until.....? Lol.. Well worth the time..

Real page turner. Really loved the series so far love the fact that it's so realistic you won't regret getting this

Couldn't put it down. Loved this book.. Couldn't put it down once I'd started. Went straight on to read then next f4 and eagerly awaiting book 6

Surprisingly good. I'm not one for reading books so it takes a very good book to maintain my attention and I was unable to put this down, so I'm looking forward to reading the next one

Excellent read, I was hooked instantly. You really feel the characters predicament in this book, an exciting read. Currently working my way through the series itā€™s well written and flows easily. If youā€™re into post apocalyptic scenarios this is for you 100%

Great series. Eagerly waiting book 7

Proper page turner. I bought this book last week, after reading the reviews I thought I'd give it a go. I'm a massive fan of the walking dead and didn't want it to be a rip off of that but it couldn't be more different. It's rote in diary form which is very good, no long chapters of "he said, she said" If you like things to do with zombies I'd definitely recommend this book. Good story linline and towards the middle to end the story gets really good. I've bought the second book now to start reading, can't wait

Just the right thing to read during a pandemic. I feel like I am ready for when the zombies do eventuate !!!

Entertaining. Easy read, entertaining and well written. I thoroughly enjoyed this and look forward to reading other books by this author

I loved it. Iā€™m one for post apocalyptic themed books and this book has had me addicted for the past two days. I smashed through all 500 pages in two days and not one regret to spare.

Thoroughly enjoyable. Great read, kept me engaged. Now onto the next instalment!

Surviving the Evacuation. Very great. It has a lot suspense. The journal entries made even better.

Amazing!. Quite an amazing read, for the price. Its written in diary-format and takes cues from WWZ style-wise. I thoroughly enjoyed it!!! My one complaint would be the use of "They/Them/etc" but other than that, perfectly written.

Good Zombie Apocalypse Book. Intrigued & unable to put down. Wondering what will happen next.

this books crazy. i loved the sensation this book gave me, the feeling of being in his shoes, and the descriptive language used. I would recommend this book to many people aged 13 and up

Good read. Great zombie book

Addictive. I started reading this book as a free sample. I love zombie/apocalypse/survival stories. This one did not disappoint. An easy read, original, even for a well-explored theme, Iā€™m now hooked and look forward to reading the rest of the series.

This is the BEST ZOMBIE BOOK. Bill Wright has become FAMILY! Loved reading this first book!

London. Terrifying. Well thought out.
