Memory Man by David Baldacci Book Summary

This "impossible to put down" #1 New York Times bestseller introduces Amos Decker, a gifted police detective with a perfect memory who must solve a mystery he wishes he could forget: his family's murder (Washington Post).

Amos Decker's life changed forever--twice.

The first time was on the gridiron. A big, towering athlete, he was the only person from his hometown of Burlington ever to play in the NFL. But his career ended before it had a chance to begin. On his very first play, a violent helmet-to-helmet collision knocked him off the field forever, and left him with an improbable side effect--he can forget nothing.

The second time was at home nearly two decades later. Now a police detective, Decker returned from a stakeout one evening and entered a nightmare--his wife, young daughter, and brother-in-law had been murdered.

His family destroyed, their killer's identity as mysterious as the motive behind the crime, and unable to forget a single detail from that horrible night, Decker finds his world collapsing around him. He leaves the police force, loses his home, and winds up on the street, taking piecemeal jobs as a private investigator when he can.

But over a year later, a man turns himself in to the police and confesses to the murders. At the same time a horrific event nearly brings Burlington to its knees, and Decker is called back in to help with this investigation. Decker also seizes his chance to learn what really happened to his family that night. To uncover the stunning truth, he must use his remarkable gifts and confront the burdens that go along with them. He must endure the memories he would much rather forget. And he may have to make the ultimate sacrifice.

Memory Man will stay with you long after the turn of the final page.

Memory Man. Really stupid how you can't save a review when nickname is already taken :-( Take two:excellent read! Keeps anticipation level high! Leaves you smiling and satisfied!

Intriguing. Keeps you guessing

One of Baldacci’s Best. I’m a long-time fan…read nearly every Baldacci book…King and Maxwell are enjoyable characters, depending which book...really love John Puller character, in every book…But Amos Decker is just as likable, if not more so! And Dekker’s reflection style – random clipped thought – is a refreshing character attribute. Loved it!

Wow!. This is the first book I've ever read from Baldacci. I am a fan! This may be the first book I've read every single word of. I'm normally a skimmer. READ IT!!!!

Memory Man. I couldn't get through it. Far fetched.

Superb. Excellent read. Enjoyable and intricate

Memory Man is a Great Book. Started off a little slow but action picked up and couldn't put the book down! Good read

Interesting thriller. Lots of twists and turns

The Fallen. Baldacci never disappoints. Great plot and cast of characters. Fast moving story that keeps you turning the pages.

A page turner. Loved the twists and turns in this book. Just a reader not a reviewer. Buy it, you won’t be disappointed.

Meh... what’s with. The silly weird plots that Baldacci keeps putting out there? Implausible. Unrealistic. Far fetched. The guy can write, be he can’t plot worth a fig.

One of his Best!. I've read David Baldacci books since the very beginning and I've never been disappointed in a single one. This is one of his best. All the right elements of good story telling and a plot that moves like the wind.

Memory Man. When a detective is an unmovable force, that’s good. When they’re physical size is the reason they’re relentless, that’s interesting. When their brain is their biggest asset, the story is fantastic. Amid Decker is all that and more. A good read.

Memory Man.. I loved the complexity and humanity of this well told story. I tried not to rush but relished each nuanced, ripe page. Bravo! Excellent pacing, great characters.

What a difference!. I have read many books by David Baldacci but I enjoyed this one the most. So many characters going in different directions. But yet, David let me hold on ever so lightly as his plot came together. Already started your next book!

So good!. Couldn’t put it down . Loved this book.

truly the mind is powerful. Breathtaking! Every step to find the person who killed Amos’ family took big leaps and turns.

Engaging!. Kudos to Mr. Baldacci! This was an awesome book and I highly recommend purchasing it. I just preordered another Amos Decker series, "The Last Mile" which will be available this upcoming April. Can't wait.......

Memory man.. enjoyed a well written fiction book. read it. Electronically for the first time using my I ! Pad by Apple. Please continue and bring back the Camel Club and others. Sincerely. Jaime Gutierrez in Miami Florida Nov 11/15.

Thank. H the young us B.B. was goodh thank him thank us bobs yayhbuhkdvkhkhmbdxxiyvvug

Outstanding. A great book that will keep you hooked from the opening chapter.

Memory Man. Thrilling from beginning to end. The personal struggles that Decker has to endure and now all the nightmares truly come back to haunt him. Only he and his brain can make the connections that no one else can. Wire to wire the most thrilling book and it’s needs Decker! You won’t be able to put this down!

Could not put the book down.. A real page Turner! A twisting tale, on the dark side, with a really unique main character. I found myself staying up to 1:00 am, more than once, to see what the next page would reveal. I look forward to the next book, to see where he goes from here.

Its a thriller!. Baldacci does an incredible job describing difficult human behaviors and conditions, including terror as if you’re in the crime scene and yet at the same time giving the reader an understanding of complex, human conditions /situations not often discussed in book or in life. An amazing story, you can’t put it down.

I like the title. I was very confused how Decker figured out who the killer(s) was/were. I felt like that that was very muddled in the story.

Finally found what I was looking for.. I never have time to read. I randomly stumbled on this book one night and thought I would just read the first few pages to kill time, I was instantly hooked. The author does an amazing job painting a picture with his descriptions and keeps you wanting more the entire time. I have nothing bad to say about this book.Highly recommend!!!! On to the 2nd book

"Memory Man". I am a fan of David Baldacci, I read most everything he writes. This book is, was terrible in all facets, in my opinion. The idea of the lead character with his abilities is intriguing, it just did not work in this setting.

Great read. David Baldacci knows how to get a reader’s attention.

Gripping. Couldn’t put it down. Smart. Solid story.

Memory Man. A truly riveting whodunit. Great read, but weird, weird, weird. Super ending.

Great start to the series. The character and plot development were first class and I can't wait for the next one.

Memory Man. Awesome as always by DB.

Memory Man. This was my second time around. I don’t have Amos’ memory, So it was a surprise second Reading ! Excellent, excellent Story ! As usual with Baldacci, No answers until last page !!! Thanks for the great Read David !! Don’t quit your Day Job 😁

Memory Man. Dark beyond measure. Gross. Convoluted. No redeeming characteristics.

Amazing read. Awesome book. Deckers character is fascinating.

Overall good and good ending. I found it a little slow at first but it picked up and finished well.

Memory Man. Couldn’t put it down. Fast paced, very interesting, and very clever. One of the best books I’ve read in a long time.

Not my fave. Not the worst book Baldacci's. Definitely not his best. I wouldn't recommend this to others.

Excrutiatingly Slow. I am a Baldacci fan, and I gave this one my best shot, but I cannot subject myself to this torture.

David Baldacci knows how to write thrillers. I’ve been reading a lot of thriller authors lately and I came across him under the b section in book stores but I never read him though. (Big Dan brown fan) His books normally seemed about politics. But I decided to give it a shot. And . . . IT WAS AWESOME! The book kept going at breakneck pace and he made Amos Decker seem so real. but the only real thing I would ding this books on is that it kept getting darker as it went on. But still it was awesome.

So good!. The story held my interest from the moment I picked up the book.

Awesome Read !. This was a great read from a great author. Imagine a personal life changing event that leads to murder and mayhem. Imagine that you now have an eidetic memory and see things in color. Imagine you're a cop with all this. Now you have the setting for a great piece of fiction. This book will keep you hooked from beginning to end.

Memory Man. What a page turner

Another great one by a story master. As all David Baldacci books this is no different and does not disappoint. As always he keeps you turning pages and wondering where this might just end up. It twists and turns and you have no idea whats really going on until the last few chapters. Can't wait to read more in this series.

Meh. Not what I expected or hoped for , but I had read #3 and wanted background . I wont be reading #2 !

Simply amazing.. Easy to follow, yet complex, storyline. Incredible way of stringing everything together at the end. Great read.

Vegas?. So anyone with such a great memory could have gone to vegas and card counted and made a fortune. Anyway, it was a typical Baldacci suspenseful novel. Although more gruesome. Worth reading if there is nothing else. On to his next one.

Memory Man. Mesmerizing!

What a BIG Surprize!. An usually bland opening that in no way will prepare the reader for the intricate maze of "incidents", characters, and unsuspected twists. Each relatively short chapter can be summarized as a logical, yet low keyed, extension of the previous chapter. Action builds to a higher intensity--ending with just the right hook to pull, drive and/or lead you into the next chapter. The majority of the characters have a rough edge that smoothes and becomes family. The main character retains a consistency of skill, knowledge, intuition, and facts that leads the puzzle pieces into place from almost a three dimensional route. These are characters I hope to see/read more of. Please take the time to make the next episode as great as this. Thanks for a great read! Caution...if you have an important task to complete, you may wish to finish that first, for you will find yourself reading this for the pure pleasure.

Good book. Great read

Great read. Loved the book. Hope to see the Amos character again.

Memory Man!. I have read many books from David Baldacci but this one is powerful and when reading it's very hard to put down.

Memory Man. Absolutely loved this book. Could not put it down. Cannot wait for book 2. Have read many of his books and I'm never disappointed!

Memory man. Not one of my favorites.

Memory Man by David Baldacci. I have just finished reading Memory Man and loved it. I couldn't put it down and finished the book in 2 days! I love this new character, Amos Decker. His abilities to remember details in colours and numbers is fascinating. In this book, he can solve crimes using his new"brain", a result of an unfortunate accident. I'm hoping there will more books using this character, just like John Puller and Will Robie in previous books by David Baldacci. I am a big fan of his books, read them all! I'm looking forward to another book using Amos Decker as the central character. Great job on this new book!! Thank you. Sincerely Bella Trier Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Un peu long mais passionnant. Un roman très bien ficelé ,le rythme de l’intrigue est soutenu même si certains passages son inutilement longs .
