About Glynnis Campbell

When she's not writing swashbuckling historical romances and playing medieval matchmaker, bestselling author Glynnis Campbell (also writing as Sarah McKerrigan and Kira Morgan) is a cartoon voice, the wife of a rock star, and the mother of two young adults. She's been a ballerina, a typographer, a film composer, a piano player, a singer in an all-girl rock band, and a voice in those violent video games you won't let your kids play. She does her best writing on cruise ships, in Scottish castles, on her husband's tour bus, and at home in her sunny southern California garden. Glynnis loves transporting readers to a place where the bold heroes have endearing flaws, the women are stronger than they look, the land is lush and untamed, and chivalry is far from dead!

Duncan should have just thrown her overboard. When Sir Duncan de Ware initially sees a woman provoking a pirate, he's intrigued and feels honor bound to look out for her. But she's not nearly as appreciative of his efforts as he expects, taking him to be a commoner and treating him as if he's beneath her. He may be in disguise to blend in at the market, but he has little tolerance for nobles who look down upon those less fortunate. But when a known pirate and slaver abducts her, Duncan has little choice but to put his own judgement aside and find a way to rescue her. The Verdict: I didn't go into this book expecting something incredibly deep or serious, but even though it started off with plenty of humor and entertaining circumstances, the characters soon began to get on my nerves. Linet is rather obsessed with her noble lineage, even though she has little more than her family's name. On the one hand, at that time in history, name was pretty much everything, and I can understand her clinging to it in an effort to better her circumstances. However, she truly thinks less of those who aren't blue-blooded, and instead of trying to live up to a noble name, she simply flings it around as if it should have people bowing to her. Duncan, for his part, is more likeable — at least for a while. But his pauper routine grows old after the first several laughs, and even though I couldn't blame him for not wanting to dangle his family's wealth in front of a woman so clearly obsessed with status, I suspect I may have ended up liking both him and Linet more had he simply come clean about his identity much earlier in the story. The part that really grated on my nerves, though, was Linet's complete ineptitude. Sure, women in that time period didn't have a lot going for them, but she takes clumsily finding trouble to a whole new level. And by the time Duncan pops up on the ship where Linet's been stowed, her superior air and complete lack of reason and self-preservation is more irksome than entertaining. I had hoped this would be old-fashioned fun reminiscent of The Three Musketeers combined with heavy dose of romance, but My Champion quickly proved itself to be little more than historical slapstick centered around two largely unlikable and two-dimensional characters. The truly humorous moments were generally ruined by Linet's ignorance and pompous attitude, and if you ask me, Duncan should have just thrown her overboard and called it a day.

Loved this book!. I couldn't put it down. I enjoyed it so much I am going to start My Warrior immediately!

Nice read. This book was enjoyable but the heroine in this story was a pretty horrible person. I understood the Hero’s need to protect but besides “spunk”, I couldn’t see how he could love the heroine.

My Champion. Clever!

Thumbs down. To keep it short and sweet, I don't like it when the author writes characters who are supposed to be clever, strong, smart, etc.......... And then EVERYTHING they do is exactly the opposite of those traits. I haven't read a book that was so frustrating and miserable to get through. Linet was a horrible character. Duncan has the heart of a saint. I'm sorry, I failed to see why he was ever EVER attracted to a woman like her in a million years. Not worth the time.

Horrible female lead. The main female character, Linet, is ungrateful, mean spirited, and a snob. I found myself constantly wishing Duncan would dump her and find someone worthy of him.

DEAR GOD, SMITE THIS BOOK. Where to start with Linet....what an ungrateful, annoying, rude, and completely one dimensional character. She is with out a doubt the worst character I have ever read about. It's understandable to be rude at first but after about 700 pages of insufferably ungrateful Linet, I want to quit reading for life. I never want to chance reading such rubbish again. I HATE this book because of that snob. Whoever told you that this book was good is a liar or has never read a good book in their life.

Not good. I really love all the other books by this author but this one was bad. The main male character liked to put his pickle in any jar available and didn't seem concerned by the twenty some kids that came from it. The female was strong till it made her stupid. The book seemed extra long and I ended up skipping to the end cause I couldn't tolerate much more.

Magnificent. Glynnis Campbell has another series started with My Champion. Wonderful, lively characters that are well developed. Action that you can fully picture as you read. A plot with more turns than a mountain road. Please, please enjoy this read!

My champion by Glynnis Campbell. I love how Glynnis Campbell tells a story. I found that her funny thoughts seemed spontanious but we're well put together. The way she describes her characters tend to be so real, compassionate and extremely passionate. I wanted to skip a head to see when legit would find out who her beggar really was but I could not push ahead because I also did not want to miss any part of the story. If you are into historical romance this is one of the authors to read.

My Champion by Glynnis Campbell. Boring. Boring. Boring.

Fully developed romance. For what it was, it was very well done. Personally I thought the heroine was a bit tedious, but the action in the story was enough to keep me reading. I did have one tiny issue in that the hero’s premise is completely true, but his “experiment” seemed flawed. I appreciate that the author allowed the heroine to see the nobility in more than just the hero himself.

Loved. Loved

Linet, linet, linet..... I loved the story line, and actually found the book quite funny, super steamy and romantic... BUT the whole time I wished Linet would find herself dumped and alone. He deserved someone better & it rubbed me the wrong way that she was not humble and a complete idiot.

too long & dull. long winded storyline, lacking in traditional realism, & a ridiculous, unlikable female protagonist made it extremely difficult for me to continue reading. the story had promise, but i had no desire to waste anymore time getting to the good parts (if there were any). pity really. i’ve liked other books by this author.

Amazing. Loved it!

Good except for Linet.. I liked the main guy Duncan who is probably every girls fantasy guy-- humorous, can fight, and has good morale (well maybe not the best considering his 20 children...) but he was likable to the end. The main girl Linet was difficult to like. I mean after a while I figured this was going to turn into a tragic romantic book because she didn't like those below her and he couldn't be with someone so shallow. There were a couple of scenes where i just wanted Duncan to walk away and meet someone who was actual like him. And the ending wasn't that realistic with her all of a sudden changing how she has always felt about lower class citizens. She was just hard to like but all in all it was too bad and the author did make it an interesting story besides that.

An otherwise excellent book:. The "otherwise" refers to Linet, the primary lady of this tale. Since when does stubborn, willful, narrow minded, self indulgent stupidity qualify as "spirited" or "intelligent" ?. This character while initially intriguing quickly becomes a self involved bore so concerned with her personal perceptions that absolutely nothing can invade her own reality making the last two chapters and the epilogue the best part of the book. This book is well executed, well edited and the hero (except for his 20 presumed offspring) and his brothers and best friend are truly likable and heroic in nature. The villains are bad to the bone. If you are a reader who considers stubborn stupidity a female virtue...then Linet is your character of choice. If not,the rest of the story is well worth reading, just pretend she is a reasonable human being capable of learning even the simplest concepts.

Love this author's books!. Another fun story from Glynnis and I can't wait to read the rest of the series! I enjoy reading historical romances and escape back in time for a bit. Her characters come alive and pull you into the story. Great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Fall for Duncan. Really enjoyed this book. I got frustrated with the heroine quite a bit throughout the book but it’s understandable why she is acts like she does. I liked her towards the end though. Love how Duncan is so protective and a true champion!

Loved it. It’s got everything, danger, excitement, sea voyages, bravery, not to mention a few good laughs. Really enjoyed this book Thank you 😊

Hated this book, give 0*. Very disappointing- it could have been a good story but the girl is an absolute idiot - betrays her champion twice - she is bossy, annoying & just has do the exact opposite to what he asks her do - can’t understand what the Hero see’s in her (the hero is supposed to be honourable, yet has 20 illegitimate children & takes advantage of virgins???) the intimate parts in the book are confusing & it’s not clear what’s happening! Normally when I start a book, I have to finish it -with just 4 chapters to go, I just couldn’t finish this book - the girl was just so annoying - don’t waste your time 👎🏻😤

My Champion. This story is so thrilling, with romance, battles upon the sea and family bonds unbroken I just so enjoyed the way the story flows. I laughed out loud many a times my heart sang at the delicious ending. Can hardly wait to read more of your writings Christina Marie
