Aflame by Penelope Douglas Book Summary

From the New York Times bestselling author of Bully comes a gripping novella in the Fall Away series—the epic conclusion to Jared and Tate's story.

The tables have turned. Now I have the power—and it’s his turn to beg....

Everyone wants to be me. Maybe it’s the sway of my skirt or the way I flip my hair, but I don’t care. Even though their attention is the last thing I crave, I just can’t stop. I dominate the track, the speed rattles my bones, and the wind and the crowd screams my name.

I’m her. The girl driver. The queen of the race. And I’m surviving—something he thought I’d never do.

They all talk about him. Did you see Jared Trent on T.V? What did you think of his last race, Tate? When is he coming back to town, Tate?

But I refuse to care too much. Because when Jared does come home, I won’t be here.

Tatum Brandt is gone. I’m someone new....

Epic Finale. I love to read Jared and Tate's story. So sad that this series has come to the end. I love the epilogues.

Hearts on fire. This book is a continuation of Jared Trent and Tatum Brandt's story that started with Bully in the Fall Away series. It can be read as stand alone, but to fully enjoy the fruits of this amazing story and the authors labor - please read the other books in the series first. Jared and Tate have gone their separate ways in this book. They are still in love with one another - but time and being apart has made them gun shy with relationships. The truth is they both want to get back together, but are just too stubborn. Jared had come home after 6 months only to find Tate with another man, on the night he was going to propose. He was very hurt and it took his mother having his baby sister to get him home. He is not expecting to see Tate. Tate does not know Jared is there as she walks in and is getting ready to go out. She really wants to know why he had to find himself without her. They had a great relationship - and it hurt so bad when he left. The conclusion to the series shows all our favorite characters from the previous books in the Fall Away Series. I loved it and wished for another book!

The best way to end The Fall Away Series!. I've loved this series from the moment I read Bully. While Tate immediately stole my heart with her guts and bravery, eventually Jared made space for himself as well. He didn't come alone, bringing Madoc and Jax with him, and later Fallon and Juliet won me over too. It's amazing how real they are to me. It's like they've become friends I love to visit with. That's why the end of this series is bittersweet. It's amazing how sometimes we can miss things. When the news of Jared and Tate having another book was released, I didn't think too much of it because I was just excited read about them again. Slowly news about what the book was going to be about began to filter out and rumors began to fly. I realized I'd missed something integral to Jared and Tate's story. I missed the part where Jared was unsure about what he wanted to do with his life, while he watched Tate know what she wanted to do with hers. And I will admit to feeling sucker punched when the prologue was released and Tate and Jared went their separate ways. However, I knew it was for the best and that eventually everything would work out. After all it was about the journey as much as it was about the final destination. I think I loved Jared and Tate more in Aflame than I did Bully or Until You. It's because they're older, more mature, and wiser. They've lived apart for two years and grown as individuals. That doesn't mean they didn't stoop to their old tricks, but that they were better about being considerate of one another and the others in their vicinity. You could easily feel the pain and confusion the separation caused in both of them. I really liked how Penelope Douglas kept their separation realistic. Neither of them wore chastity belts for the time they were apart, but nor did they sleep with anything with a pulse either. Their reunion wasn't easy either. I completely understood Tate's pain at being abandoned by Jared. It would take more than him showing up and taunting her to let him back in easily. Besides seeing Jared and Tate figure out their feelings about one another, they had to deal with changing family dynamics. Jared had new things to work out with his mother and Madoc was giving him the cold shoulder. Tate had to deal with things changing at home too. Speaking of family, I absolutely loved seeing Madoc, Fallon, Jax, and Juliet again. They really have become a family and I loved seeing them support both Jared and Tate, and each other. Madoc made me laugh frequently. He certainly hasn't lost his touch. I may have sniffed a little when all of the guys got together at the end, but you'll have tears in your eyes when you read that particular scene too. There were also moments when my heart beat was out of control. Especially when they were racing. Tate and Jared still can not resist a bet! I think Penelope Douglas has done an amazing job at wrapping up this series. She's done justice to the entire gang. Of course she has left a little window open in case she would like to visit the Fall Away gang or their progeny again. I sincerely hope she does so, but I must admit to being overanxious to read her upcoming books. I've experienced love, heartbreak, hope, and so many more emotions from her words and I know the other stories she has to tell will affect me the same way. I'm looking forward to experiencing all those feelings again with new characters!

YAYZ. Can't wait to read.

love changes yet stays the same. I love this series and these characters. Going back to it again after so long was a real treat for me. Seeing the changes and constants between them all over time was excellent for a Jared and Tate lover like me. I still love Jax too, and really I just love them all. Excellent conclusion.

This was perfect.. In my eyes, this conclusion to The Fall Away series was perfect. I know from reading on blogs and reviews that some people were scared to death or mad as hell but I knew, deep down, that I could trust Penelope and her story telling. We have to remember that not everyone is going to be satisfied with how a story is written or told. But I am so unbelievably happy and proud for Penelope and what she accomplished with this series. Jared and Tate will always be the couple I root for. I can't wait for more from Penelope's work.

Loved It. I love love loved this book. It was the perfect ending for this series. The interactions between Jared and Tate were intense, every single one of them. Madoc provided his usual comic relief with a side of sweet understanding. And Jax was his straight up, no nonsense self. Fallon and Juliet played their small roles too, but honestly, Tate didn't need quite as much pushing as Jared did from his boys. And Pasha was a great addition to the crew. Her snark had me in stitches. Penelope Douglas does intensity so well that you'll find yourself squealing, groaning, and frequently exclaiming "No!!!" You'll probably want to have some wine, chocolate, and tissues handy, and it might be a good idea to put your reading device in an Otterbox case for extra protection in case you throw it across the room. If you loved Jared and Tate in Bully and Until You, you're not going to want to miss this book.

Aflame. A great story that I didn’t want to end! I laughed out loud, cried and just a really great feeling reading it! A fabulous series!!

Love this Series & I already miss it!!. Where will I get my fill of Maddox... His laughter & amazing wisdom. And the beautiful, all-knowing, all-seeing heart of Jax. So smart beyond his years. Not to mention the heat and yearning you felt every time Jared entered a scene. There was nothing like Jared & Tate... But I love them all and will truly miss reading about their lives and feeling as if it is my own or at least wanting it to be!

OMG it's tonight. Excitement can not explain how I feel right now

Jared and Tate are back!. This book explains what happens after Falling Away. It’s a wonderful book and you get to see Tate grow! Plus, she’s trying to settle the score!

The best!. This book was amazing it was a perfect way to bring the series together. Testing mot only love in a romantic sense but in friendships as well.

Great end to one of my favorite book family. This book was perfection. I will miss these characters. This book was so well written and was very realistic. This is true, the way Jared and Tate loved each other was so real. The story made me laugh and cry. You will not be disappointed.

Great series. I'm sad to see the series end. I loved them all. This one was a really good ending. It gives the reader closure for all the characters. I look forward to what Penelope gives us next.

Work is going to be miserable. I started this finale right before bed. Two hours of sleep is going to make for a miserable day tomorrow, but it was so worth it. I have been looking forward to the release for months. I could not stop reading it. Fantastic! A great conclusion and a story I did not realize I would want to read after Jared and Tate's break in the last book. Great job! Highly recommend. Read the others books first.

Addicting. I just can’t get enough of the Fall Away series. I was hooked from the first chapter of Bully book to the last chapter of Aflame book, where sadly it ends for the gang. I loved all the ups and downs...immaturity to maturity...hate and love. Great writing! Thank you Penelope Douglas!

Perfect. An absolute perfect ending. I'm kind of sad they are done.

Perfect!!!. This book is perfection!!With every word you read you fall in love all over again. Penelope Douglas takes you on a roller coaster of emotions with every book/ chapter that will leave you begging for more. Heart racing. Tear jerking. Could not ask for a better conclusion to a wonderful series. Thank you Penelope Douglas for helping us fall in love and breaking our hearts all at the same time.

The last one. I'm sooooo sad this is the last series. I found myself so emotional and teary eyed throughout the book. I feel as if I got attached to all the characters especially Jared n Tate; they are still my favorites of the series because if it wasn't for them then the series wouldn't exist. I'm glad they found their way back to each other even though they had to go on their own paths to realize they are soul mates. Thank you Penelope for writing from your heart and sharing a piece of yourself with each character. Each character has their own place in the story and showed the true meaning of friendship and family!!

Aflame. LOVED this book and the entire Fall Away series. So sad it's over though. Loved all the couples. Very well written. Captivating stories. Really hope the author writes about all the kids eventually. I'm going to miss Jared & Tate, Madoc & Fallon and Jax & Juliet.

Jared & Tatum (2 years later). Loved this story. Obviously the beginning was rocky and at times was painful to read, but it was great to, finally, see Jared and Tate’s future unfold.

Simply a beautiful conclusion. I’ve followed Mrs. Douglas since day one, and I’m truly satisfied with the way she has wrapped up her first series, it was a beautiful ending with no question left unanswered. She has a certain way with writing that allows readers to stop and think, whether during reading the book or a long ways away after turning the final page. Her words inspire me and motivate me to get on looking for the Jared/Madoc/Jax hybrid that I am determined to find! Overall, well done and if you haven’t picked up a book yet by this lovely author I would get cracking before you lose an oppurtunity of a lifetime!
