You're Never Weird on the Internet (Almost) by Felicia Day Book Summary
The instant New York Times bestseller from “queen of the geeks” Felicia Day, You’re Never Weird on the Internet (Almost) is a “relentlessly funny and surprisingly inspirational” (Forbes) memoir about her unusual upbringing, her rise to internet stardom, and embracing her weirdness to find her place in the world.
When Felicia Day was a girl, all she wanted was to connect with other kids (desperately). Growing up in the Deep South, where she was “home-schooled for hippie reasons,” she looked online to find her tribe. The Internet was in its infancy and she became an early adopter at every stage of its growth—finding joy and unlikely friendships in the emerging digital world. Her relative isolation meant that she could pursue passions like gaming, calculus, and 1930’s detective novels without shame. Because she had no idea how “uncool” she really was.
But if it hadn’t been for her strange background—the awkwardness continued when she started college at sixteen, with Mom driving her to campus every day—she might never have had the naïve confidence to forge her own path. Like when she graduated as valedictorian with a math degree and then headed to Hollywood to pursue a career in acting despite having zero contacts. Or when she tired of being typecast as the crazy cat-lady secretary and decided to create her own web series before people in show business understood that online video could be more than just cats chasing laser pointers.
Felicia’s rags-to-riches rise to Internet fame launched her career as one of the most influential creators in new media. Ever candid, she opens up about the rough patches along the way, recounting battles with writer’s block, a full-blown gaming addiction, severe anxiety, and depression—and how she reinvented herself when overachieving became overwhelming.
Showcasing Felicia’s “engaging and often hilarious voice” (USA TODAY), You’re Never Weird on the Internet (Almost) is proof that everyone should celebrate what makes them different and be brave enough to share it with the world, because anything is possible now—even for a digital misfit.

LOVED IT. I loved Felicia Day's book! I read it in a day! Now just as a disclaimer, I am a huge Felicia Day fan and I could hear her personally speaking the entire book, after hearing her speak so many times on her web series The Flog and in interviews, etc. But I found the book beautiful, easy to read, and completely inspiring! She gives you a complete look into her life and her challenges and despite her wacky childhood and lifestyle, she is so easy to relate to! I am even a bigger fan now after reading her book and she has inspired me to dive head first into my own ventures and I hope the book does the same for you!
MY FAVE.. LOVE LOVE LOVE CANT WAIT
Great book to read in one sitting. This book really sucked me in and I had to finish it. You will learn a lot about working in what you love and you can make your own way.
Motivational with humor and empathy. Felicia Day has written an honest and interesting memoir. In a very non-stuffy way, this book chronicles both the maturation of Felicia Day, the Internet and how they met. Gamer and YouTube background is helpful, but not necessary for enjoyment of this book.
Can't wait to read this book!. This is a very interesting bio of the author! It shares some kind of the experiences I had in my childhood. Also, I like the diversity this girl seems to have. I can't wait until I start reading this book.. I hope there is an audiobook of it because it is easier to listen than to read--multitasking baby!😎
Can't go wrong. Just about 99% percent of the words that come out Felicia's mouth to the public really entertain the **** out of me. Therefore, this book is worth spending the cash... Go cop it!
Good read. Thank you for a book that combines a quirky sense of humor with the real insecurities that people face. Will read again.
Like a shooting star!. What a fun read! My first thought was that she is a bit young to be writing a biographical memoir, but the book is full of her unique weird experiences, dreams, challenges and obstacles, seizing opportunities, and success and redemption through hard work and driving forward past your fears. I really enjoyed reading it! @FeliciaDay is like a shooting star. Unique like an Internet snowflake. Awesome like the feeling you get at the Grand Canyon. Yet she is as ordinary, and unique, and special as you and I. Thanx for that message, Felicia! XOXO :-)
Entertaining! But where's the pdf?. I listened to this on a trip from South Bend, IN to Pittsburgh, PA and back. I was thoroughly entertained and couldn't help but want more! I have to apologize to the people in the Ohio service station when I yelled "noooooo! It can't be over!!!!" I definitely want more! The only negative was the fact that Felicia mentioned a pdf was included. There was no pdf and I would love to compare awkward adolescent pictures.
I dont think I Got The PDF Files with the audio book….. I was looking forward to the pics she references in her adorably funny stories…. but alas, cant find them….as far as I can tell, they didnt download as she suggests they will upon purchase…. other than that, I was intrigued, I laughed and almost shed a tear, I confess, at a certain part about her fans. but that pdf missing is bothering me…. I will forgive it and give it 5 stars anyway. but i want that PDF!
Great!. Literally embarrassed myself at work laughing out loud at this. Love it. Highly recommend.
Geeky-riffic!. If people don’t know who Felicia Day is, I wish they would buy this book and discover the wit and quirky charm that all her fans have admired for years! Felicia Day is a actress, writer, producer, gamer, comedian, entrepreneur, and (in the best meaning of the word) geek, and over all strong amazing young woman! Very, very funny and a great, fast read!
You're Never Weird on the Internet (Almost). Great telling of her childhood and how the Internet can so totally draw you in. She is a great writer and when you're done you love her, you admire her sense of right and wrong, and you respect the courage she has for her convictions.
Everyday heroes. This memoir doesn't disappoint. Sure. It's not a true crime thriller. But it's about a woman who sets out to live her passions and she does it by conquering herself. It's a story everyone should read. And it has dragons.
