Almost Interesting Book Reviews
Almost Interesting by David Spade Book Summary
David Spade is best known for his harsh “Hollywood” Minute Sketches on SNL, his starring roles in movies like Joe Dirt and Tommy Boy, and his seven-year stint as Dennis Finch on the series Just Shoot Me. Now, with a wit as dry as the weather in his home state of Arizona, the “comic brat extraordinaire” tells his story in Almost Interesting.
First Taking fans back to his childhood as a wannabe cool younger brother and recounting his excruciating road-tour to fame—when he was regularly mistaken for a ten year-old, Spade then dishes about his time crisscrossing the country as a comedian, for low-paying gigs and dragging along his mother’s old suitcase full of props. He also covers his years on SNL during the beloved Rock/Sandler/Farley era of the 1990s, including his close working relationship and friendship with Chris Farley and brags about the ridiculous perks that fame has brought into his life, including the constant fear of being fired, a crazy ex-assistant who attacked him while he was sleeping, a run-in with Eddie Murphy on the mean streets of Beverly Hills, and of course an endless supply of hot chicks.
Sometimes dirty, always funny, and as sharp as a tack, Almost Interesting reminds you why David Spade is one of our generation’s favorite funny guys.

As expected. If you are a fan of David Spade, his memoir won't disappoint. Good luck reading it without imagining his voice narrating the stories.
Funny, honest, smart. Written very much in Spade's voice, I also found it to be insightful, candid and even moving at times. Way exceeded my expectations.
David Spade Almost Interesting. Heart warming recollection of life in the south around 1850. Uncle Toms cabin with a twist!
It's what was promised.. I've always enjoyed his work. Spade gave full disclaimer of the nature of this book. Not important and maybe interesting. It was just that. A tad interesting. A look into the SNL process was interesting. If you are a dude and Spade follower, you would likely be a more ideal audience. I'm not a male, so my perspective is different. What wasn't interesting is how much of the book that is dedicated to his dating life. It's a great portion. Boring. Spade won't be getting any awards for participation in the sexual revolution. He's pretty honest about his insensitivity in his relationships. He owns it and I respect that. There was no summation whatsoever and book ends abruptly, which tells me he likely did indeed write it himself. He repeatedly tells the reader that he is no writer--I wish I had listened!
Loved it!. Such a great book. I really like David Spade and his book was both hilarious and endearing. His stories were enjoyable and I enjoyed his take on showbiz and the stories he shared about cast mates and his life. Easy read, definitely recommend.
Loved It, read in less than a week. 😀. I really liked the book. I most enjoyed learning how difficult the behind the scenes work is on SNL. Also, makes you humble knowing how hard it is to make it in that industry.
Very interesting. This book really brought you back to the days of SNL. Before Instagram, before iPhones, before 911. It was an innocent time that David brought us into with such honestly and humor. Quick read, wish it didn't end so fast. DeS
Totally Interesting. F-ing hilarious. The funniest deadbeat dad booking 2015.
So good. I feel like I know him just a little more now. I loved all the writing about his experience with Chris and how you could tell he meant so to him. I could feel the energy through the book. So good!!
Loved It. Great book from David Spade. Fun read from a very funny guy.
Yup. I enjoyed it. Thought it was funny.
Best book ever. This book was seriously my favorite book I’ve ever read. It made me laugh, I got a little teary-eyed at points, and Spade is just an all around fantastic storyteller. 100% recommend.
Laugh-Out-Loud Biography with Heart. This book made me so happy! I have been a fan of Spade and the gang ( the gang being literally every comedian he was on SNL with) since I was a little kid. I’m 23 and my mom raised me on a hearty diet of her VHS copies of Tommy Boy and Black Sheep and I always watched Joe Dirt when it came on tv. For me this was a fun romp into not only David’s life, but also a timeline for so many of my favorite comedians turned actors. I watched so many SNL clips while reading this book it’s not even funny (but it was!) David Spade has always been special to me and I love everything about this book. A must read for any fan of him or comedy in general. Thank you so much for all the laughs you’ve given me over the years David!
Oy Vey. Pretty weak.

Almost Interesting. Great book. Funny funny read. Love David Spade
Almost interesting. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Mr. Spade did an excellent job.
It Was Interesting:). Enjoyable read, David Spade self deprecation and honesty were unexpected and kept me engaged. His final words regarding Chris Farley were touching. My favorite... His thanks to his scum bag father "Scrammy"
Very interesting, talk about paying your dues. I haven't read a bio since Total Recall a few years back. This book really shows how hard Spade worked and how humble he is. From his upbringing to to when he hit it big it's a definitely interesting.
Funny stuff. David Spade has always been a funny and sarcastic dude and it shows here. Funny and entertaining read. A couple of parts had me rolling on the floor.

So interesting... his life, childhood. Really a great read or listen depending on format... he had quite an upbringing and his struggles into comedy then beyond are incredibly interesting and inspiring... you really have admiration for his work ethic and values
An excellent ride!. This book was fantastic. It was like hanging out with David Spade and listening to him talk right beside you. Kinda like hanging with a funny good buddy. Buy this. Don't think about it. Buy it. 👍😂
