Hannah and the Highlander by Sabrina York Book Summary

First in a brand-new series from New York Times bestselling author Sabrina York about the bold, brawny men of the Highlands-and the lovely lasses who bring them to their knees...

Scotland 1813:

Highlanders are her weakness.
Hannah Dounreay has no time for suitors who only seem interested in her family's land, which she manages as well as any man. If she marries, she wants to be loved for the educated, independent woman she is. But when a strong, silent-and spectacularly handsome-Highlander saves her from a violent attack, her heart is stirred. Who is this man? And if he asks for Hannah's hand, will she be able to resist him?

Love is the most powerful weapon of all.
Alexander Lochlannach, Laird of Dunnet, has no time to lose. The Highlands are in an uproar as clans battle for land-without mercy-and Alexander can't afford to fall for the wildly attractive, strong-willed Hannah. What's more, he has a desperate secret, one that could destroy them both. But as their attraction turns into an all-consuming passion, Alexander has no choice but to prove to Hannah that he's the only man for her-body and soul...in Hannah and the Highlander.

You will not go wrong with this title as a fan of historic romance or a newcomer to the genre.. Oh how I love a highlander, and when you combine it with a heroine who has her own backbone and fire, add in a touch of danger and plenty of steam and it’s a total winner. Such is Hannah and the Highlander, the first in a new series from Sabrina York. I’ve read this title three times (already) and different elements stand forward with each page
Research is impeccable, using actual events and traditions that inform the setting. There is a plausible threat and reason for the relationship, and clues to the ‘truth’ of Alexander in the near-fawning affections for him exemplified in his staff and clansmen. Not to mention an adorable imp, taken in during the ‘clearings’ who has him wrapped around her little finger. These all come together and give a framework on which the story is woven
Hannah is an unmarried woman, considering herself ‘off the market’, preferring to manage her father’s estate, dodge arrows from her niece’s bow, and keep her younger innocent sister from harm, particularly with her discussions of spirits and ghosts. Despite her very logical core, Hannah is a dyed in the wool romantic, and not only yearns for love but an equal partnership, and she won’t be happy settling for less. Alexander is weighed down by his responsibilities, and mired in memories of his past. A totally honorable and giving man, his childhood traumas have left him with a stammer, and the belief that he can never be ‘enough’ for the position as Laird. An instant connection keeps Hannah in Alexander’s mind, the first he’s ever found intriguing. While he believes that his actions speak louder than words, and that Hannah will appreciate the ‘no nonsense’ approach, he’s unable to share his deepest secrets with her. Meanwhile, Hannah doesn’t see the efforts as meaningful, a ‘baby poop brown’ bedchamber, the rush to the altar all reinforce her fear that she was little more than a commodity, and he was doing ‘as he should’ with no thought to her wishes. A wonderful trajectory for this story reveals both Hannah and Alexander in alternating views, both from their own voices and with input from secondary characters and observation. The gradual development of their relationship from knock your sporran sideways instant attraction to one that is deepening with knowledge and understanding. Both are deeply loyal and loving people, who want nothing more than “the one”, and York brings both heart and heat to the journey. Most importantly, both Hannah and Alexander come to life in the story, including you in their journey of coming together and finding a partnership that doesn’t exclude others, but welcomes them with open arms and plenty of warmth. You will not go wrong with this title as a fan of historic romance or a newcomer to the genre. I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Good!. 3.75* This was a fun and heart warming romance. It brought together two people who never thought to find love and showed them what true love really is. Alexander was a tortured soul after years under his uncles rein and Hannah never felt that she had anything to offer a husband but the land she had. Hannah has two beautiful sisters who have always out shined her so she thinks. Once Alexander sets eyes on Hannah he must have her and Hannah agrees out of desperation to become his wife. They both have secrets and fears to over come to rid themselves over the ghost of the past. One of my favorite characters of the book was Fiona. I wish there would of been more of her in the story. I'm looking forward to reading the next book Susana and the Scot.

Snooze, total bore. This was the first book I've had to force myself to finish simply bc I paid for it. So very boring and too much back me forth; the author did not do a good job keeping things clear to the reader. There was so much fuller as well and the main characters became almost different people. Not to mention the ending was so odd and not reply an ending. Epilogue was worse, just about one of the characters throwing up on someone's boots. Don't bother. Bore. Bore. Bore.
