X by Sue Grafton Book Summary

“An inventive plot and incisive character studies elevate MWA Grand Master Grafton’s twenty-fourth Kinsey Millhone novel...This superior outing will remind readers why this much-loved series will be missed as the end of the alphabet approaches.”—Publishers Weekly (starred review)

X:  The number ten. An unknown quantity. A mistake. A cross. A kiss...

Perhaps Sue Grafton’s darkest and most chilling novel, X features a remorseless serial killer who leaves no trace of his crimes. Once again breaking the rules and establishing new paths, Grafton wastes little time identifying this deadly sociopath. The test is whether private investigator Kinsey Millhone can prove her case against him—before she becomes his next victim.

X. Sue Grafton wrote an unusual mystery for her in that the major culprit is known by mid-book and by the end of the book his crimes certain, he is on the run from law enforcement. Two interesting side stories about squatters and a wealthy couple fighting and getting back together are included. The couple was the most interesting.

X Is For eXciting. Kinsey Millhone is one of the most entertaining characters in fiction history, and this book illustrates for the 24th time why that is true. The depth of her character has been growing and developing for many years now, and in this novel, Kinsey is at her sleuthing best. I have walked away from some of the books in the series wishing there had been more involvement from her next door neighbor and landlord, Henry, and this book gives us a lot of him to enjoy. Many intricate characters are interwoven in this novel, all leading to plot twists and turns that remind us why we love Sue Grafton and Kinsey. This is another great book of the alphabet mysteries I couldn't put it down, and finished it in 24 hours. It's high on my list of her best books. If you love Kinsey, don't miss this entry in the series!

Kinsey. I have now read every book in Kinsey Millhone series. I can hardly wait for another one. I have enjoyed every one. I hope Y will be coming soon. Thank you for these wonderful books. Sandy Jones

X. The book is very boring. So disappointed.....I ve been a big big fan!

X. I always enjoy a Sue Grafton novel. This book was no exception. "X" was predictable and carried several plots with lots of descriptions throughout but it held my interest until the end.

Wasn't ready for it to end.. Several unconnected events woven into a fun read.

A to infinity?. Sue Grafton's Kinsey Millhone series is one of my treats in life. After A, B, C...Z, I hope Kinsey stories can just continue 1 to infinity!

Kinsey rules. Can't wait! Love, love, love Ms Grafton's novels. X sounds like a chilling page turner.

Another fun time with Kinsey.. A really fun read. Just what I was looking for.

X. My only disappointment is that I will have wait wait way too long for 'Y'.

X. One of Ms Grafton's most boring books! I have read all beginning with the letter "A" and probably will not read the rest of the alphabet! What a disappointment!!!

Tons of minutiae.... And not much substance. Not a good effort from Ms. Grafton this time around. Bored me for the first half and I gave up.

A disappointment and I've read all of her books!. Not much of a mystery, I missed the humor of previous books. It was more like a list of chores that had to get done so the book could end The description called it dark and chilling, but it was less gripping than most of her series. This one should have been X ed out.

One of her best. This is one of Sue Grafton's best so far. Full of twists.

Difficult Being A PI. Kinsey is your neighbor next door that has found her professional niche, investigating. Over the years she has sought to improve her skills as well as utilize them to bring issues brought to her attention to a successful closure. In this book, there are three issues. One where she is hired to perform a simple task for her skill set that turns into something else. Second where a new neighbor is a cause for concern. And lastly, doing a favor for a friend on behalf of the friend's deceased husband uncovers something entirely different. Like life, not everything has a desirable outcome.

x. What's going on--every time I try to download I get a message saying the book is "being modified, try again later. " it has been three days. The sample downloaded fine.

Sue Grafton. She fills up 70% of her books, including this one, with mundane everyday activities (shopping, cleaning, landscaping) that have no interest and don't advance character development or plot. This will be my last one....

Another excellent adventure. Another adventure of Kinsey Milhone that will keep you glued to the pages. Good people and the truly evil are brought to life by Sue Grafton. I con only hope this series will not end with 'Z'.

Another winner. I wish there were more letters in the alphabet

X does not live up to its hype!. I read the review on the site and was thrilled to be reading a new Kinsey mystery. the review promised horror and threats to Kinsey. none of the above was true until the 2nd to last chapter. Kinsey worked her way through 3 mysteries, and the actual deadly force was only revealed in that 2nd to last chapter, with the final force in the last chapter. no suspense, just Kinsey plodding through her days. I was very disappointed...

Sue Grafton forever. I've read them all. From A to X and am looking forward to Y and inevitably Z. What then? Will Ms Sue start with numbers such as 001 and 002. Can't wait for 007. Grafton plots out a story extremely well. She fleshes out the characters till you can picture them in your mind. Better than movies. All plots are tied up at the end. All very satisfying. Besides, Kinsey and I have so much in common I think we are twins separated at birth. I love you, Sue Grafton. Keep writing.

Ok but not worth a 2-year wait. Same ol' Kinsey, which I love. But the story was bland, at best. Sue should read her earlier books and recapture whatever it was that made them so captivating. I'll read Y and Z only because I'm committed to the series and I'm hopeful that she will again find whatever it was that hooked us all in the first place. My third star is mostly generosity.

Xcellent as usual. I drool when I know a Sue Grafton book will becoming out. I feel as if Kinsey is an acquaintance of mine and her story's are her and I acting away. I dread the end of the series. Thank you for the older full reads over the years. Sue always gives such humanity to the characters. Can't wait for the next one. Of course I will read this one over again because I so joyed it.

Boring people. Again...her characters are one dimensional and her "heroine" deadly boring. Why I bought this I don't know; I guess I forgot how much I dislike her books; don't spend your money on this.

Terrible. These books are going downhill. Much as I love the writer she should give up while ahead.

X. I have read A thru W and loved them. I looked forward to X. What a disappointment it was. It just about put me to sleep. No suspense, just boring.

Not my favorite. It took me about a month and a half to make it through this book, because it never SUCKED ME IN until the last three chapters. Perhaps there are people who enjoy mountains of unnecessary details, but I learned, throughout the reading of this novel, that I am not one of those people. It was a decent storyline, and I enjoyed the characters. But, I am not compelled to read any other novels by this author. It's just not my cup of tea, but I am guessing others might love this.

Long and boring. I expected more from reading the reviews, however it was too long and not much action :/

X. Another great "alphabet" read. Hope she continues with the series. Really like Kinsey, Henry, and the cast of characters and never tire of their antics. Read it at the beach in two days and wished for more!

Predictable and a disappointment. I too have read all of the alphabet series from "A" through "X" and this is the first one that disappointed me. I miss the humor and also interaction with Dietz. I am looking forward to next one in hopes of her getting her mojo back.

All sue graftons books are good. Kinsey is a good character with a good story lines

X. I've read every one of Sue Grafton's books. They are always entertaining; I can't wait for the two remaining books..."Y" and "Z"!

So far great. This author is my cousin and I'm only in high school but I read alittle of this books and it was good I'm gonna try to read all her books

X is for Xcellent. Another great read for Sue Grafton fans, but it is probably not the place to start. Be sure to read "W" before this new work or you will miss the thread that binds the plot together. For that matter, begin at the beginning, A, and go right on through until the end and then stop ( until the next one).

Just OK. I thought this book was just OK. I felt it was confusing at times and didn't really go anywhere. I was hoping for a bit more action.

X. As an avid fan and a reader of the entire series, I did enjoy this book. Sue Grafton has managed to keep this long series interesting and engrossing. I look forward with pleasure for each new book. If I had any criticism this time, it is that she tried to involve too many characters and different situations. At times I felt a bit of disconnect. Still is a good read.
