Contact by Johnny B. Truant & Avery Blake Book Summary

Continue the journey with Book 2 of the blockbuster Alien Invasion series, the breakout sci-fi series with over 1000 5-star reviews.

FIND THE MISSING. FEAR THE FOUND...

Three months have passed since the space fleet's arrival, but very little has changed in the skies above planet Earth. Motherships still hover without word, impervious to attack and communication. Spherical shuttles still ferry about, their intentions unclear. But the abductions of select humans have ended, and most of those taken have been returned -- dazed, incoherent, and prophesying glory or doom -- but back home where they belong.

All but nine. Worldwide, only nine seemingly unconnected people remain missing.

Trapped in their besieged bunker outside Vail, Piper, Trevor, Lila, and Heather wait for one of them.

All of this has happened before…

For his entire life, Benjamin Bannister has sought the connections that unite the planet's wonders: Egypt's pyramids and Stonehenge, the Band of Holes in Peru and the Cambay Ruins. For years he's pursued evidence that extraterrestrial life is not new to Earth but has left its footprints in the archeological records over and over again. For years, he was dismissed as a fool. But now the spheres have arrived, and Benjamin has found his vindication … along with troubling theories as to what it all means.

Benjamin's research facility rests on a paranormal hotspot in Moab, Utah -- but Vail, Colorado, is where his interests lie. He's sent an emissary to Meyer Dempsey's ranch to find the answer to a question: What makes the Missing Nine so special to the planet's silent invaders? What news will those Nine bring when they return? And what, as the motherships again begin to move like pieces finding positions on a chessboard, will happen next?

…and it will all happen again.

Vail and Moab, Moab and Vail -- two epicenters in the cold alien war. The locations' fates (and the fates of those bunkered at each) seem somehow intertwined as Earth's clock ticks toward midnight. The roads and communications have been closed, but now it seems that the planet's future might depend on a journey from one to the other at all costs. Humanity must find the value of those who have been taken … or become mere fossil evidence for the archaeologists of the future to puzzle over.

★★★★★ "Holy Cr*p I was riveted until the last page... How these guys manage to take an idea as old as sci-fi itself and make it fresh, compelling, and something you can't put down is beyond me. All I know is they do it every time in every series for me." -- JoniJ

This relentless, page-turning tale of first contact is the second book in the completed Alien Invasion series.

Good but not very focused. I liked the first book a lot better this seemed more like filling pages than trying to progress a story. Maybe because Meyer wasn't in it at all it seemed to drag. Worth the money and hopefully the third book will get back to what the first book had in terms of flow and focus.

Really good read. Excellent story, great character work, very good rhythm. One of the nicest new SF in quite a while

Contact. Just like Book 1, too wordy, thin plot. I'm deleting the series.

Good book. Not a hard sci fi book but a direrent one.

Good Story with new spin on Aliens.. I liked these two books book and I am looking forward to third. A great concept and well written. That said, I only gave it three stars because it was light on the alien and action and heavy on the teenage Emo drama. Almost tends toward a younger reader. I skipped a lot of that. The story though is good and worth the read. Book three promises to amazing.

... I enjoyed the way it was told, but I really like a book to have truly telling end.

Contact series. Good science fiction series that is reminiscent of the golden age of SF writers. A nice combination of action/adventure and aliens. Perhaps a bit youth oriented but a very fun read for anyone who likes classic SF.

Great!. Best sci-fi book I've read in a while, I am 15 and this has to go in my top 10 as good maybe better than the first book honestly great overall. Could tweak the ending to be honest.

Great series.. So far (2books) everything comes together nicely. It all connects and makes sense. Can't wait to read #3. Great work.

Riveting. Every word keeps you on the edge of your seat as if the invasion is in your mind.

Contact. I'm on pins and needles waiting for the next book. This was awesome I had trouble putting it down. I need to know what happens next. Keep it up guys. Tks sandra

Contact. Could not set this book down , very well written and exciting !

Contact. I'm enjoying the Invasion series very much!

Great second book in the series. Great second book in the series. Full of action and suspense. The characters have changed from the first, but that's good because they've developed. Still no aliens in this one, but that's okay because that's where the suspense comes in. What do the aliens want and when will they show up. Can't wait to read the third.

Slower Pace than Book 1 - still can't wait for the next book!. A good followup to Invasion, Contact takes place 3 months later and follows Meyer's family as they try to live without going crazy inside of the bunker, and the crowds of people attracted to Meyer's house because he was abducted there in the hopes that they might be abducted too. (Lots of hippies.) Not is all sunshine and rainbows, though, as some of the crowd have discovered the bunker, and are trying to break in... I enjoyed the new characters and relationships introduced in this book, and like how nobody is safe from danger. That said, this book is not quite as "page-turney" as the first book, owing in large part to a lot of the action taking place in a very confined space. There is a bit of travel as a few of the main characters try to find a secret research base in Utah and to travel there from Meyer's bunker without getting killed, but it wasn't just one life-threatening event after another as folks tried to cross the country from NY to CO like the first book. Meyer himself plays a very small role in this book, although given how the book ends I expect that he will play a much larger role in the third book. While I didn't tear through this one nearly as fast as I did the first book, I am still eagerly awaiting the the next book.

Second in the series was better than the first. This is the continuation of the alien invasion and it does not disappoint!!!! The cool thing about this is that the aliens are ever present but don't "take over" the story. The humans are the center of the story and their interactions create just the right amount of tension and suspense.

Amazing. Love these books!

Good read. This book and its prequel are very entertaining! I enjoyed the first book so much that I preordered the second book, the first time I've ever preordered and I read ALOT. I only gave it 4 stars because it doesn't compare to my all time favorites, Count of Monte Cristo or Tale of Two Cities, but super entertaining and a unique twist on the whole Aliens-Come-to-earth theme.

Misfits in a Box!. This is the second book in the series. The first book, in case you missed it, was titled, “Abduction”. You’ll need to read that one to figure out what in whole is going on in this one. Last time we read, our hero had just mysteriously walked out of his underground bunker that he spent many weeks trying to reach from New York City. His bunker in somewhere in the vicinity of Vail, Colorado. Meyer Dempsey was a self-made billionaire so he could build just about anything he wanted, anywhere he wanted it. For reasons only known to him, he chose this land in Colorado. It was to be a family get-away, but then Meyer started “knowing something was about to happen”. Then the alien ships showed up coming from Jupiter. The telescopes on the back side of the moon capture six objects that clearly had to be made by someone heading for Earth. So, what did everyone on Earth do? They went crazy of course! People started thinking they had to get out of the big cities or go somewhere other than where they were. They had definitely seen too many sic-fi shows on TV. It pretty much turned into chaos right after the videos of the alien ships were shown on national TV. Meyer Dempsey, even with his billions, rounded up his family and headed for Colorado. How they got there and their adventure on the way is the content of the first book. This book is about what happens after Meyer was “taken” by an alien ship. No, it’s not about his contact with the aliens so I don’t know why the title say “Contact”. The Dempsey Family, minus Meyer plus his ex-wife Heather, are in the underground bunker for the duration of the alien visitation or for however long it takes. They may be in the bunker for a long, long time. On top of the bunker has grown a hippy community which have gathered here because it was the place that Meyer Dempsey was taken. There are always going to be people who want to be “taken” so they figure this is the place to be and we’ll just wait. They are squatting on the land and unfinished house. But, there are others who know of the secure door to something in the pantry of the house. They’re not sure what is on the other side of the door, but they have a suspicion that’s strong enough to make them want to break in. So, these five or six guys, all definitely the type you want to invite into your house, are making an effort to break into the underground bunker. Now that Meyer has left, none of the occupants know anything about how the bunker is supposed to operate. For doomsday prepers, they sure did a bad job. Do the bad guys get into the bunker? I don’t know, you have to read the book. What about the aliens? There are stories about some of the “taken” being returned. Will Meyer Dempsey ever return? The story continues to be exciting and somewhat unpredictable. Being enclosed in an underground bunker for a long period of time might not be pleasant for even the sanest people and I don’t think all of the Dempsey family is sane to start with. This covers a lot of the emotional turmoil going on with each of the characters in the bunker plus some others. We get some insight into what is happening but not much. This book makes for a good reason to have to read the next book. I enjoyed it and think you will too.

Contact. I never realized until I was absorbed by the story that this was book 2 in a series. I enjoyed it though, very believable characters, and plenty of action.

Great read. A page turner for sure! Enjoyed this one even more than the first one. It keeps you guessing and the end keeps you guessing. Can't wait to read number 3!

Contact by Sean Platt and Johnny B Truant. Good book - really wish a bit longer, otherwise, great read

Great reading with one flaw.. They've done a great job tying various loose ends together. My one criticism is the perfunctory use of the F word throughout the text. Unnecessary unprofessional and clearly not in keeping with the mood of the text. Love the drama hate the F word.

Contact. Quick read - expansion of the plot is appropriate- frustrated with the wait for the final series segment.

Page turner... Enjoyed the first and so jumped into this one. Pretty darn good. Ready for the next!

Great reads!!. I highly recommend these books. I've Read the first two so far and about to purchase the next one. They are well written and easy to read. The development of the characters draw you in and I've found myself rooting for my favorites. Even though science fiction about aliens has been written by thousands of authors, these books have enough twists and depth to keep it interesting. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. PS - even though they offer them for free, I'm happy to pay the nominal charge instead to support good, new authors struggling to get their work published!!

Wow!. I haven't had a book capture me like this in a long time. I am about to start the second and then so on and so on!... But wow! Amazing read and looking forward to the next few!

Unexpected Change of Pace. Rather than the expected focus on external threats like the alien invasion, savage former citizens, and an incompetent but frightening military response to world wide invasion; Sean and Johnny spend the majority of the book fleshing out characters introduced in book one. Interesting take on how even when handed the keys to the Taj Mahal of survival bunkers, we are poorly equipped for the more subtle emotional and cultural adjustments needed to survive, let alone begin to thrive

Great read.. Only took me a day. Can't wait for part 3.

Great, Easy Read. Liking the series so far. If you like solid character development and a brisk pace you will like this series.

Contact. Book is a very good read, but to slow in to many places.Still worth buying

Another fast paced page turner that will deprive the unprepared of sleep. The next exciting volume in the dysfunctional Dempsey family versus extraterrestrials is everything you'd expect and more. I managed to pace myself a bit better with this volume than the last, spreading the book over a week of bedtime reading sessions rather than gorging the whole thing in one guilty sleepless night like last time - and not because it's any less of a page turner than what came before, on the contrary in fact, but purely through force of will! If you enjoyed the last, this one hits all the right notes too. If you didn't read the last one yet, then get it at the same time (and while you're at it, preorder volume 3 as well). Awesome work guys. As always!

Lots of filler and no meat. Like so many free starter books in a series, Contact is looooong on dialog and unnecessary details and very short on anything of interest. Old UFO references and trivial are passed off as the prime elements of this story and get in the way of any possible legitimacy or investment in the situations taking place. I feel guilty having finished this book as I should value my time more - shame on me.

Contact. This second book lets you get to know the characters, giving hints of what is to come. Each person plays a vital part in the plot and it kept me turning pages and not wanting to miss anything. Can't wait to start the next book in this series. Fantastic imagination from the authors.

Great read. Fast, good read. Can't wait for the third in the series.

Great Read. I read the first book in the series in one day while stuck at the airport. Read the next book in a couple of days. Books are great. I'm used to Fantasy books but this series I can't put down. Off to the 3rd book!

Contact. This second book of the series gives your brain something to chew on . . . Good characterization lifts it out of the norm for First Contact genre books. Platt and Truant are facile writers who keep the action running smoothly, the plot never gets lost while the character driven fun never stops rolling.

Wow! Couldn't put the book down!. 2nd in this series that I've read and I haven't been able to put the book down! I'm not a massive fan of Sci-fi but these books are so well written and the story line is so gripping! Well done! I will definitely be purchasing the rest of the series!

Contact. 2nd book of the series, such a gripping story, keeps you thinking from beginning to end. Couldn't put it down, I had to read it in one sitting.

It's ok. This isn't a bad book by any means, there is clearly an overarching narrative but it feels a little muddled at times. Leaping from one characters point of view to the next with relatively little fluidity and big time gaps doesn't really help that feeling. Just feels aimless and a bit stilted. Wouldn't mind a bit more development of the characters and a greater sense of pace would have helped a lot.

Contact. This is the second book of the series I have read. So far I am enjoying the series and the books are good value for money. Great story lines, although I think some times the author does get stuck on small details for too long and I understand why the books are separated as they are - contact, colonisation etc, but I would be happy to have at least 2 books as one. However, just bought the third book so they must be doing something right. Stuart

Classic. These books are instant classics. If you are a sci fi readers highly recommend you read these. I would put these authors up there with some of the sci fi greats (Kym Stanley Robinson, Peter f Hamilton etc)

Incredibly good!. Can not put these books down, very much looking forward to reading the entire series.

Could not put it down!. Thoroughly enjoyable read, each chapter ends on a cliff hanger leaving you with a hunger for more. The action and build are fantastic - I can not wait for the next book in the series! Interesting take on the alien invasion story and how humanity triumphs and fails to deal with the unimaginable. Loved that real historical sites are referenced and enjoyed googling them as I encountered them.

Read this series!. Great series! No geeky sci-fi stuff, but a story of family and relationships that are made and broken and challenged by fear and uncertainty (ok, due to a geeky alien invasion)! The second book continued to build in tension and I can't wait to start the third. Highly recommended for a fun read.

Chris C. This is quite an enjoyable series so far. I like the unpredictable plot. It's just that little bit different and has you guessing now & then. I will be buying the rest of the series.

Good read. Easy to read sci-fi, but still with enough depth of story to keep you engaged. Worth a read.

AWESOME. Each book in this series is just as gripping as the previous one. I am downloading the next book in the series before I have even finished reading the current book; just so I don't have a pause in reading. Platt and Truant are amazing sci-fi authors.

Well written. If you enjoy books like lucifer's hammer then this is right up your alley. Enjoyable, and somewhat thought provoking, I did love the twists and turns of these books. Have to grab the next one to continue the adventure.

Good read. Enjoyed the character development. Some good plot twists. Give it a try!

Waiting to be on video...[insert on line service here]. It is somewhat annoying to get into a read and discover that it is out there in order to become gist for the ravenous video production machine created by the internet. Not to say this is bad, on the contrary the subtext is interesting - how would society react to the arrival of beings not of this world. The execution leaves a bad taste. Grasping for the pseudo realism show viewpoint. The soapoperish interactions of characters who were designed to be represented by overtly good looking actors playing age inappropriate roles in outlandish and non commonsensical situations. As you read, the chapter breaks scream end of episode. But I read it anyway. I just wish the writers had a bit more respect for the reader. I just wish the writers would plunge into some deeper aspects of the question, rather than wasting precious electrons on the shallow interpersonal crap that, to be honest, stretches things for even the brain addled reality show junkies. Verdict...aliens invade and everyone retreats to the confession cam. Soon to be a series near you.

Fantastic!. Loving this series!
