Enjoyable. I obviously enjoy this book as reflected by the short time it took me to read & complete it. Gripping, exhilarating, nail biting suspense, not really but an interesting topic & natural, believable characters was defintiely worthy of finishing. With so many other books on my list I’m not that pushed to read the followup just now. This is only my opinion so purchase, read & come to your own conclusions.

Dan the man. Author British born. Now has Australian citizenship too. Multiple series of crime and spy novels, and a number of standalone thrillers. Best known character is British detective Kay Hunter. This was her debut effort. In brief Dan Taylor was part of a British army bomb disposal squad in Iraq. Something went boom when it shouldn't have. Some of his mates got blown up. He got PTSD and went back to Oxford, the place not the university (he'd already been there). Meanwhile, a geologist he knew at uni is running around Europe casting aspersions on multinational mining companies for buying up promising new energy sources and burying them (reburying them, in fact) so they can can keep making a motzah from those evil fossil fuels that are killing the planet, yada, yada. Turns out one of the bad guys, the worst we are led to believe, lives in good old Brisvegas. Where else? When the whistleblower gets dead and his house burns down, our boy and the whistleblower's ex make it their mission to find out why, right wrongs, make the world a better place, whatever. Dan eventually gets to blow something up. Writing Third person, mostly from the POV of the main protagonist Dan Taylor. Competent if uninspiring prose. Reasonable editing. Plot development not so much. Bottom line I was never quite sure why "white gold" was the answer to our renewable energy prayers. Neither, I suspect, was Ms A, whose later work is considerably better than this. Footnote The Whistleblower's Ex sounds like a good title for a book. I'm prepared to license its use for a reasonable price.
