It's Not Okay by Andi Dorfman Book Summary

Discover the New York Times bestselling book that Bachelor fans—and even Bachelor stars—can’t stop talking about! Beloved fan favorite Andi Dorfman tells the unvarnished truth about her engagement, her public breakup, and why looking for love on television is no paradise.

Millions of people tuned in to see Bachelorette star Andi Dorfman get engaged to her chosen suitor. But when the cameras turned off and the dust (or rose petals) had settled, Andi realized she was engaged to a man she’d known for barely two months. And as they endeavored to return to normal life, they discovered that happily ever after wasn’t as easy as it looked. In her own words, Andi delivers “plenty of surprise (and some disturbing) details” (Cosmopolitan) as she tells the whole truth about her entry into the exclusive Bachelor family, her experience on the show, and finally, what happened to make it all fall apart.

But this is much more than the diary of a very public breakup—Andi divulges her story along with some no-nonsense, straight-talking advice to other women dealing with their own romantic issues. In It’s Not Okay, Andi is the best friend we all wish we had, telling us the good, the bad, and the ugly to inspire us to always be true to ourselves and remember breakups may be hard, but it’s always going to be okay.

Worse than Not Okay. As a huge fan of the Bachelor/Bachelorette I knew I had to read this book, but am disappointed to have wasted the time and money. The order of events was impossible to follow as she jumped back and forth from present to past to present. It is billed as a book to help others get over relationships but much more filled with pathetic recounts of her own misery. I'm sure based on the NDR she had to sign before going on the show it is shallow in details, rich in her own ego, and disjointed from the beginning to the end.

Great book!!. This book opens your eyes to realize you aren't alone! I feel like Andi should be my friend :) lots of love

Didn't enjoy. I thought she comes across Whining and spoiled in the book. I ended up liking 25 and 26 more...

Really?!?. I seriously cannot believe this… lithe sole reason she REALLY went on The Bachelor was to gain fame. That’s why she was on in the other season she was in, when she came to the door to talk and give ‘good advice’ to the guy — she really didn’t want to say all that, she just wanted her face and name in the limelight again. And she knows she can’t do it any other way: she sure as heck isn’t pretty enough, she isn’t smart enough, she doesn’t have any talent — she’s a nobody, with no life. And now that she’s no longer being seen, she claims to have written a book. 🙄 All she really is, aside from trailer trash, is nothing more than a wannabe fraud, a ‘cleaner’ version (if there really is such a thing) of the kar-trash-ian cult!! Yuck!!

It kind of sucked. I thought it was going to be better. I thought it would tell me more about the insides and outs of the bachelor but it didn't. Just a self help book for pathetic women.

It's not okay. This book is awesome. I enjoyed reading it! Andi you rock! 🌟

Nothing but love. So raw and natural. Love her even more than before if that’s possible.

So great. This book was amazing! Andi is an amazing strong women, who I wish I could be more like. I wish I had this book to read after my last break up!

Loved it!. I love Andi’s stories and style of writing! I can’t wait to read the next one!

Loved!. I really enjoyed this book, I couldn’t put it down!

Hit all my feels. This book is perfect for anyone who is currently or has ever been through heartbreak. Andi was so honest and raw. Very excited to see what she will continue to do. Such a relatable book.

Great!. Great book

Such a good book!. I bought this book on Monday I believe and haven't been able to put it down, except for when I was busy. It's definitely a good book and kudos to Andi for being able to tell her story.

Love it!!. Read this book in a day! Loved it so much. Such raw true emotion! We love you Andi!

Loved it!. So juicy! The only mistake though is at the end it says Andi was the star of season 10 and a finalist of season 18...? That can't be right

!!. I loved it! It was hilarious, sensitive and super relatable. thanks for sharing Andi xo

At least you read a NY Times Bestseller? :/. Going to be honest here, I really just read the book because I was curious to know what exactly happened between the two of them. It’s my guilty pleasure, it’s embarrassing, I will not speak of it again. I was hoping that in doing so however, I would get to feel like I understood more of who Andi really was. I don’t. At all. This book is trying WAY too hard to be Sex & The City. I’m cringing. So much of the phrasing of this book literally came straight from Carrie’s mouth on the HBO show. “I can’t help but wonder”...who is the real Andi Dorfman anyway? Girl, just BE YOU. You are educated, articulate, gorgeous, witty, and so much more. This book does nothing for all the wonderful qualities that you possess. So bummed!

Kind of Embarrassing. I thought Andi was "The Smart One" from the history of this show. Her written experiences reveal something else. Andi's impulsive choices, couched in faux logic, seem to have led her to poor decisions in men & life. She seems to think if she cutes up her behavior, SJP style, her impulsive behavior is ok. Her language solidifies her image. While her story is admirable in the end, her path to it shows she was willing to accept long-term abuse in exchange for fame. Not a great role model or "learn from me" book premise.

Real.. I read this book being in the best relationship of my life, which makes me appreciate what I have, and recognize that there are many people who take similar broke roads before finding the one. I love how honest Andi was with herself and her fans. This can be very therapeutic for toxic relationships many women fear to escape. Great job, Andi!

Could use more substance, and less fluff!. This was truly a dumb purchase on my part. I was watching bachelor in paradise, a guilty pleasure, with Josh Murrey (#26) and Nick (whatever his last name is,#25) when Nick mentioned a tell all book. Well that peeked my interest, so I downloaded the sample and eventually the book. Pro:She really does get into the nitty gritty when it comes to the two shows and the dirt on the guys, which is why I gave it two stars. Cons: I have to say that for a self proclaimed feminist she puts herself in the victim role pretty quick and does a lot of complaining about everyone else. Which leaves the question what makes her qualified to give "advice"? Finally I have to say I was really turned off by all of the shallow label dropping! We get it you like clothes & shoes but seriously that's not what the book was supposed to be about. The book could have been good if it was about 50 pages and only contained the vital tell all info...more substance, less fluff.

Read the book!. I loved this book!! Although I'm currently in a relationship this definitely helped me with a lot of baggage from my last. It helped put things in prospective and realize you're not the only one going through the ups and downs!! Loved it!

Amazing. If you're a fan of the bachelor/bachelorette like me you'll love this book. Andi is so real and goes into the depth of her experience and heartbreak and how she gets back to being the best her she can be. Loved it

Love. Very very good book. I suggest everyone to read it!! She has a big heart and doesn't let anyone put her down! Strong woman! Good job!!

It was okay. I liked Andi's book. I enjoyed the "behind the scenes" details. You go girl.

Empowering, regardless of a current break up or not!. I appreciate Andi's authenticity and transparency! I laughed, I cried, but mostly I learned a lot from her experience. This book is empowering to any female, currently processing the end of relationship or not!

It's not Okay. Disappointed! Didn't really consider it a tell all. The advice part was very cheesy. Found the book to be $2.00-3.00 more than most of the downloads I have gotten. Love Andi but wish I had not bought this book.

Loved it!. Great book! I'm not a big reader and I finished it in less than two days, couldn't put it down.

Interesting incite, honest feelings. Appreciated the incite into the back world of "the dating show". The honesty of the raw emotions through the process makes for a great read.

Great book!. Loved reading this!

Great read for anyone going thru break up or helping someone deal with break up. Andi Dorfman wrote an amazingly helpful book for anyone struggling with a break up. Her "life lessons" are spot on! Considering she is not a psychologist, this book surprised me. I recommend this to anyone helping someone through a traumatic break up, as well as to those dealing firsthand with a break up.

It Wasn't Okay. The title of this book should read more like a warning: "Don't waste your money because... It's not okay". Prior to reading this book, Andi was one of my favorite bachelorettes - I thought she was a down to earth and relatable career woman. Now I know that she is a selfish and shallow man hater with a drinking problem. Not to mention a vulgarity problem... Does a grown woman need to swear multiple times on every page? If you're interested in this book for some juicy behind the scenes Bachelor details, you're not going to find them here. It's Not Okay is written as a diary/memoir/self help book that misses the mark in all of the aforementioned categories. I highly recommend skipping this one and saving yourself the time, money, and disappointment.

It's not ok. I loved Andi on the show. And I love the show. In my phone the book was 729 pages long. That was about 500 pages too long. It's as if she weighting to her diary. And it just goes on and on about how sad she is and every emotions she went threw on every page. It got real old real quick. It was a waist of $12. I didn't even finish it it was that bad.

Great Read. Couldn't put it down! Read the whole book in 2 days. Sad that it had to end.

Definitely a great read!. I just now started watching the episodes to the Bachelor and the Bachelorette. I really loved reading Andi's book, although i never did see her season. I'm glad she respected the guys by putting a number for them. And the way she described every feeling she had. Was so real. Felt like we were her best friend and she was telling us everything. And she kinda guides you through healthy and unhealthy type of relationship stuff. I'm not great at review but I really loved her book. Such a page turner!

Great book!. Great book with a look behind the scenes of reality tv and dealing with a break up! Great job, Andi!

Regretted my purchase. Loved Andi on the Bachelorette and wanted her book to be great...but it just wasn't. I felt as though everything was a bit exaggerated and not honest. At one point Andi mentions that women who go to work after a break up and make it through the day without crying are heroes....um no, that's just called being a "big girl". Another part that annoyed me was her mentioning that the ONLY reason she finally left her friends house was because she ran out of tissues and needed to go buy some more....um, if you really didn't want to leave the house, you could have just used toilet paper! I don't know, I guess I just wanted more. I quit reading half way through.

Loved it!!. This book was amazing and so well written. It was a page turner, for sure. I really love Andi's writing style. It's a must read if you are a bachelorette/bachelor fan.

Awesome. Love it very real

an embarrassment for the author and her team. Andi, you're not Carrie Bradshaw... Remember that just because you've been given a platform, it doesn't mean you should use it every time. I don't know how this book saw the light of day in such terrible condition considering all of the resources, publishers and support that must have been behind it. It should have been a fun read, not an embarrassment for the author and all people connected to it. Perhaps Andi will be able to build a brand for herself in the long term, but this was a step in the wrong direction... and a waste of her limited time in the spotlight. A frustrating, rant of a book that should have remained a private diary for a young woman who has clearly been given terrible guidance about how to live in the public eye.

It's just "Okay". I like a light, fun read, but did not love this tale. The non stop F bombs and never-ending snarky remarks made me view Andi in a not great light. I'm in mid 40's and genuinely love all the Bachelor shows but this book reads like a high school girl diary and I just couldn't relate.

Hold your head high girl 😃😃. I have read your book & sorry for what ya had gone through I watched your season on the Bachelorette and had number 26 picked out in the 2nd episode I thought you guys made a cute couple but apparently that's not so I hope you find your true love Andi ❌⭕️❌⭕️

I devoured this book!. LOVED everything about this book. Definitely related to just about everything Andi said. As a girl who just recently went through horrible heartbreak, it was a must read.

Please write another book!!. This book was so honest and great to read. We’ve ALL been there and I can totally relate to almost everything that you went through (minus the behing out of the public eye part!). Hope your NYC adventure has been AMAZING. You deserve the best.

Amazing!. This book takes you on the wild ride of love to devastating heartbreak. Andi is incredibly honest, transparent, and hilarious. An addicting read that I could not put down!

It’s Not Okay. The most incredible book i’ve ever read. Andi is beyond inspiring and her strength is unbelievable. I hope she finds what she is looking for in New York and writes another novel in the future!!!!! She’s an amazing writer and would love to read many more of her novels.

Was the intention of this book to get us all to hate her?. Andi was one of my favorite bachelorettes when she was on Juan Pablo's season. I thought she was so smart and funny. This book just made her appear extremely entitled, mean, and delusional. I don't know who told her the definition of what feminism is, but it isn't to degrade men. It also isn't bragging about spending your father's money to feel "empowered". Andi is almost 30 years old but this book felt like it was written by a bitter, spoiled teenager. As a former fan, I'm really disappointing.

Awesome read. I too had a relationship from my home town and the only way to heal was to start over in a big city. I so related to this book. It will be helpful to others.

Read better, read worse. Some parts of the book are hilarious. Others come off as preachy and only relevant to someone fresh off a break up. I can't imagine anyone has ever read this book not caring only about the behind the scenes stories of Bachelorette. She's jaded and self righteous. However, she is open and honest about her feelings. Some of her beliefs are just silly. For instance, "number 26" booty calls her with a text to meet up two months after the break up. She goes, puts out, and then brags about how she "hit it and quit it". Funny, as isn't he the one who booty called her? Poor thing believes she is calling the shots.

Good for Andi!. At last a truth teller. Honest and open about the trauma of breakups. This opened some rawness as I reflected on a the worst breakup of my life 9 years ago that still feels like yesterday. I wish I had been as strong as Andi. Writing style is awkward and clunky at the beginning, no thanks to copywriters, but give it a chance. Her story is a good one. Good luck girl!

Loved it!!!!!!!!!!!!. I could not put this book down! I love reading autobiographies but so many times, they are sugar coated and don't go into real depth (Khloe K and Kristin Cavallari). The whole point of people reading those are to relate to someone "famous" by hearing their tragedies and downfalls. Andi's book is raw and does not sugar coat anything. I really felt like I was reading a book written by my best friend. It was funny and juicy and didn't hold back anything. A very easy and fast read!!!!!!!!

Resilience. It's encouraging to hear Andi focus on strengthening her character over changing her behaviour when dealing with difficult relationships.

Witty, charming, and real.. This was a page turner for me. I was immediately attracted to the conversational tone and the realness. Who doesn't like conversation about wine, truths around heartbreak, and moving on in life? This was a brilliant self-help book, whether you realize it or not Andi! Bravo.

Thank You Andi. THANK YOU ANDI for finally describing the true reality of losing a partner. Thank you for your honesty. It was so refreshing. For anyone whose ever been down in the dumps about a guy, read this it helps and she’s truly inspiring.

Bachelor Fan. An inside glimpse to what really happens on the hit reality show. Andi is candid, funny, and easy to read. Riveting.

Well done!!. Like reading a moment in my own life after being with an emotional abuser who temporarily broke my spirit until I finally left and found myself again. Andi I hope your book helps others like us who are unable to make it through on their own, let this book give them the strength to get out and find their way back. In the end I found the most handsome, supportive, caring, honest, loving husband that I could ever dream up. He made my journey to find love, a sole mate, a best friend worth every painful minute. Andi, you are a smart and beautiful woman, Mr Right is coming!!!
