It has fallen into enemy hands. If Magnus Chase and his friends can't retrieve the hammer quickly, the mortal worlds will be defenseless against an onslaught of giants. Ragnarok will begin. The Nine Worlds will burn. Unfortunately, the only person who can broker a deal for the hammer's return is the gods' worst enemy, Loki--and the price he wants is very high.

Why did Rick have to make this political?. This series had a lot going for it. It was all ruined for me when the gender-fluid nonsense got involved. It makes me not want to read the third one.

One Word: BRILLIANT!. This book is funny, interesting, and definitely worth at least three reads. The wittiness of the characters is refreshing, and the characterizations make you think about stuff IRL. Riordan did an amazing job of mixing the modern-day lifestyle with Norse mythology. Also, who can say no to a 5-star review?

Can't wait. OMG I cannot wait Go MAGNUS!

This book is sooooo goood!. It is amazing!

Great book!!. It is a amazing book that will make you laugh hard not too. Can't wait for it to come out!!! Don't miss a chance to read it.

Incredible. ❤️❤️❤️

WHY U DO DIS. Why do u have to leave us on these cliffhangers :( now u make me wait 8 months till I can see what happened. Still excited though :D

a percy jackson for the PC obsessed. So overbearingly full of its own political correctness it was ...well....unbearable. A huge disappointment after the phenomenal percy jackson series. I'm truly sad to say that this one will definitely not make it onto the book shelves of my grandkids.

Beast. This is gonna be a great book! Love the CliffHangers... no no I don't xD!!?? But I loved the first book! Keep up the good work 🐵🙈🙉🙊 #GoMagnus

Crispy. .

I seriously can't wait!!!!!!!!!. The first book was soooooo good. C'mon Rick, cut to the Chase. (Get it chase hehe, no ok.)

Love it. When I got the first book it blew my mind.when I read this one, it just got even better!

FINALLY. Finnaly, I didn't know the book was out and I just now realized, and I couldn't find another book. Love you Rick for getting rid of my boredom

Pls Read Rick Riordan!!!. I love this series about to start the last book so far. I swear to Frigg if you don’t go farther than 3 freaking books i will do it my freaking self!!!!!!!!!! Im very serious about Rick Riordan books. I’ve finished ALL the other series’s and I’m getting bored of other authors so continue this series PLEASE!!!

THAT CLIFFHANGER WAS JUST CRUEL. I loved the book, but seriously! Did you have to put such a cruel cliffhanger at the end? I'm annoyed that we will have to wait another year, but keep up the good work!

I LOVE TO READ. I love books and I almost finished the first book and I did it in like 5 hours total I'm only in fifth grade and everyone in my class says I'll be on jeopardy and I use most of my free time reading but there aren't very many books worth reading but the Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus ,and Magnus chase are very good books worth reading and if you're still reading this thank you I really mean every last word straight from my heart.

Not aaas good as his others. For some reason Rick Riordan decided to delve into transsexual issues in this book. Just turned me off and I couldn't find the interest to finish it.

AWESOME. I Love this book.11 out of 10. Can't wait for the next one.

OMG. I read the first book on the day it came out and I think Percy might be in this book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bless You, Rick Riordan. As a non-binary, pansexual middle schooler reading Magnus Chase and Percy Jackson, I feel so much more sure of myself reading your stories and their beautiful representations of the LGBT+ community. I love that I can know that people who don’t live as a transgender person still care and believe us, because it’s easy to forget and be scared in the current times and being in seventh grade. The diversity of the characters in Rick Riordan’s stories in race, gender, sexuality, ability, and background is extremely empowering, and the skill with which he portrays them makes them relatable and excellent teachers. Rick Riordan, I love your stories, and you are a true ally. Your books represent everyone, and you deserve every bit of love and fame you receive for it. Thank you.

Good Overall. 3.5 Dragged in the middle but I loved the beginning and end.

Oh man I have to read this. I read the first one it was awesome so now I can't wait to read this one just let it out already

Why?. What happened to Percy Jackson? He is my favorite!

Honestly disappointed. The old stories of Rick Riordan were great because they focused on the characters and their relation to powers that were connected to old god and myths. Seeing this set in the stage of modern times and modern places was a major reason that i loved percy jackson and the series that followed. This book is an example where writing becomes too political. I understand Riordan can write what he wants and i have nothing against writing about something you believe in, however i've seen the greatness that he can achieve and i'm fully against political correctness at the expense of storytelling.

Why are all these..... Why are all these reviews from people BEFORE the book came out, now that's it's out I can't even find a single review that is about the actual book. Good book though, I'm still mad that all these reviews were about "OH I CANT WAIT FOR BOOK TWO TO COME OUT"!!!!!!!

Review. I've read the whole Heroes of Olympus books and I loved it and the first Magnus chase so I am really excited 👌🏼👌🏼

Praise for Rick!!. Rick Riordan is a true genius, he keeps coming up with new and very original works that keeps his readers on the edge of their seat the whole time. When I started reading the first Magnus Chase book I new nearly nothing about Norse mythology but even after finishing just one I understood the world of the Asgardians so much better. Same can be said for the Percy Jackson series, Heroes of Olympus series, and The Kane Chronicles, Rick brings the Greeks and Romans and Egyptians alive in a way that both Adults and children easily understand and can even learn from! Keep up the great work Rick!!!

ALEX AND MAGNUS. ♥️🧡💛💚💙💜 To all the people who are complaining about Alex being gender fluid: It’s just the way that people work. Alex switches genders, gay people exist, love is love. Being gender fluid is a real world thing that needs to be acknowledged. Alex’s experience has just show how hard it can be growing up being told “This is who you are. You stay that way.You have one gender, and it’s the one you were born with“ It’s not ok that people act like being gender fluid is bad. Please don’t be like that. It makes me sick to see people hating on Alex because of their gender.

Fun read. Love this series

This. Story. Though.. I’m living for this... and honestly I have a feeling Rick deliberately made a gender fluid character to ward off those of you who would judge an entire series (or several series depending from which angle you look at it), OR... and just hear me out... OR he’s trying to humanize trans, gender fluid, and non-binary persons for you and you’re acting like a child who just got told no. Sticking your fingers in your ears and going *la la la I can’t hear you* (iykyk)

Ehh. Try’s way to hard to be pc good story it just ruined it for me

What happened?. The first book wasn't bad, and focused on the story and the quest, but I couldn't keep reading the second book after the first 100 pages because if it's insane focus on alex and his transsexual aspect. I understand wanting to shed light on an issue you feel is important, but when it interferes with the story you are trying to convey it just becomes a virtue signaling book with some Vikings in it. I would stay away from future books in this series, if I knew that this book would be this bad I never would have bought it in the first place, completely ruined the story.

Amazingly amazing!!!. Best series, in my opinion (besides the Kane Chronicles!)

Response to those calling it: trying too hard to be pc.. It’s not political in any way to show the existence of transgender and gender fluid individuals. It’s just having a character, giving them something different to mark them before character development, then having fun developing them. It shouldn’t be political to be trans or gender fluid, it should just be a thing about the character showing that these people exist.it also helps to make sure kids aren’t transphobic. If a kid is introduced to gender fluid they might go, “eww,” bc they don’t understand. They would go, “oh that’s cool,” bc they saw a character they admired that was like that. Also, if you think that Norse mythology doesn’t have genderqueer people is clearly an idiot. Look it up, they’re all over the place. Guys, gals, and non binary pals, beirdos and werdios, friends and enemies, say it with me: GENDER ISN’T POLITICS ITS BEING WHO YOU ARE. Good day, sir

Bro.. Hey Rick, stick to writing books, not politics. This is really annoying to me. I’m so tired of famous people thinking they have to put their political views into their work. The first Magnus Chase book was super good, but this one was just not the same level. I think you were trying so hard to put your political views into this you forgot to actually make this one just as good as the first. I mean, really? I don’t need Alex reminding me that he is transgender every five pages. This series could have been SUPER good. But... welp. That didn’t happen. What was wrong with the first one? Why did you change so freaking much? In the first one, the characters were funny, well thought out, and, well, perfect. I loved that book. But you ruined the series because you wanted people to know your views. I don’t appreciate that. My point is, you are a author. You are not a politician. Please act that way.

My favorite Rick series. This might be controversial but this is my favorite Rick series and always stick to Rick honestly having Alex and Magnus be a couple but are just way too shy to understand. Hearth is definitely my favorite character because cool 😎 All the emotions in this book 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤪🤪🤪 also slayyyyyyyyyy I am Lizzo

Best book I’ve ever read.. This book—and frankly, this series—is some of the best things I’ve ever read. And I don’t mean that lightly. My heart leaps for almost every character in this book (bar Loki, for obvious reasons), and it’s unbelievable how well you represent. Politics have nothing to do with it—Rick Riordan, you are a hero and a true ally. Just thinking about it makes me choke up a little, because I’ve only read about one book not by Rick with a canonical LGBTQ+ character that actually had a role in the series; and even in that book, the entire character’s persona was built on their sexuality. There isn’t anything wrong with embracing and loving your identity, but when it starts to take over a character—especially in writing—it’s often a good indicator that the author either doesn’t really know what they’re talking about or doesn’t know how to represent it correctly. Rick Riordan, throughout almost all of your works of writing, you have made characters that we not only fall in love with, but connect ourselves to. We see ourselves in them; we know that, even if it’s only through a page, somebody out there knows that we’re not alone. Not just with queer or genderqueer characters, too; when I mentioned to friends that there was a bada** Muslim female character in this series, they were all ecstatic and in admiration. No one is there for charity or shoo-ins in this series or any of Rick’s other series. They’re there because it makes those of us feel like we have a family, a home with these characters. They help educate those who may not otherwise be able to grasp that sort of understanding. They are what the people in the world need to know. In short, this book is incredible. Please read it, and I’d strongly suggest the Heroes of Olympus and Kane Chronicles series as well. Thank you endlessly, Rick Riordan!

Magnus chase. I liked all my of the adventures and twists and I am a big fan of Rick. I read all his series of Percy and the hero’s of Olympus so I know when he tries to entertain us with all the gods.

Good. 3 chapters in and can tell I'm going to love it!!

Jdjdmdjd. Can’t wait to read this book I only have the first book

Praise to Rick!!!. I have read almost every single one of his books,📕📕📕and they are amazing. And I suggest you read this one too. A classic. If you don’t want to read them you’re crazy and insane.

Worse than the first. i didn't like the Sword of Summer and wouldn't have read this if i knew it was even worse. i don't know what it is that drives me crazy anout this book but i really hate it. i will only read book 3 because it had lots of Percebeth in it!

How?!!!!!!!. Rick Riordan is a great author with an incredible ability to write 500 page novels. That easily could be 100 pages. The amount of detail is amazing and so is the book

Pretty much. I was so excited to read this book, I mean the first book was amazing!!!😍😍

LOVE IT!!. So I have stuck with Rick through Percy Jackson, Heroes of Olympus, Trials of Apollo, Magnus Chase, and the Sun and the Star. Can I just say I love this book. Once Alex got into the book, she was immediately my fav character. I hate how people think it’s weird or wrong for people to be gender-fluid and I think that Rick does a great job at acknowledging everyone. He includes people under the LGBQT+ flag, people with disabilities like Hearthstone, and people from deferent cultures in his other books

Perfect. This is definitely my most favorite book series of all time. All the characters are all very interesting and unique and the diversity is mind-blowing! There are all sorts of different races, religions, orientations, and abilities and all of them are done so respectfully without the use of stereotypes or assumptions. Poorly known identities are politely explained by the characters themselves, ensuring no stereotypes persist. It’s amazing and I’ve never seen anything like it!

Yes. BEST BOOK EVER dude keep doing you!

Expensive :o. Don't get me wrong these books are absolutely amazing but aren't these books getting a little expensive? I feel like the cost/value ratio is starting to tip.

Why. I personally really liked the first book but was completely put off by the constant barrage of transgender idealism. Once you bring politics and your own personal opinion and force feeding them to your readers it can really ruin a good book.

OMG SOOOO GOOD. On Roblox I literally play as either Hearth, Blitz, Sam, Magnus, or any other character i really like

AMAZING.. I'm always impressed by Rick Riordan and this is no exception. Bravo, especially with Alex Fierro. I love her so much.

Wonderful!. This book was entirely Rick Riordan with adventure and mythology and crazy gods and sarcasm. I loved Magnus, Sam, Blitz, Hearth, and was glad to have more of them. Alex Fierro is a wonderful character and amazing addition to the series. I can't wait for the next book.

Riordan’s Norse Mythology Series introduction. My daughter and I are ardent fans of Rick Riordan, having previously enjoyed all ten books of his Percy Jackson and The Olympians (PJTO) series and Heroes of Olympus (HoO) series over and over. So Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard was eagerly anticipated, pre-ordered, and impatiently received. We both hunkered down with our e-readers the very night of its release. By morning, my daughter had already finished it once! Before I could get a quarter of the way through, she had re-read it a second time, laughing and guffawing at all her favourite parts repeatedly. The Sword of Summer introduces us to Riordan's Norse mythology series and a new teenaged demigod hero, Magnus Chase, who also happens to be a younger cousin of Annabeth Chase from PJTO. Magnus has been orphaned and is living on the streets of Boston, until his sixteenth birthday suddenly triggers the appearance of magical beings who are after Magnus and his ability to retrieve his father's sword, the powerful Sumarbrander, the Sword of Summer. It turns out the Sword is destined to play a role in the freeing of the most feared Fenris Wolf and bring about Ragnarok, the apocalypse. Magnus learns that he might be the only one who can stop this terrible destiny from coming true. Why? Because he is a hero, that's why. He is accompanied on his long and circuitous quest by an elf, a dwarf, and a former Valkyrie. This volume is full of the silly smart-aleck wisecracks and juvenile sarcasm that is typically Riordan. Much-vaunted mythological deities are portrayed as self-absorbed caricatures. Magnus' quest is nothing if not indirect and ridiculous. There is great loyalty and camaraderie amongst the protagonists. There is depth of character development as well as action. But its sarcastic humour is both its strength and weakness. Whereas my pre-teen couldn't stop laughing at all the irreverent and silly scenarios, I was starting to lose focus and getting impatient with the immaturity. Admittedly that isn't a fair way to judge it's merits since it IS aimed at my daughter's age group and not mine. So I'll summarize by saying it is a fun and enthralling way of introducing young readers to yet another cultural mythology and with this newest offering, Riordan remains a favourite author in my household.
