Mug Shot by Caroline Fardig Book Summary

Full of humor and suspense, the bestselling Java Jive series heats up as the irrepressible heroine of Death Before Decaf faces off against Nashville’s upper crust to solve a shocking murder.

Former musician Juliet Langley has barely had a day off since taking over management of the coffeehouse owned by her best friend, Pete Bennett. But there’s always more to be done—such as prepping for the annual Holiday 5K Race organized by Pete’s snobby socialite girlfriend, Cecilia Hollingsworth. This year, Java Jive has a booth right at the finish line, and since Juliet and Cecilia don’t always see eye to eye, everything has to be perfect. Nothing can go wrong. Nothing . . . like Juliet stumbling over Cecilia’s dead body on the morning of the race.

When Pete is arrested for Cecilia’s murder, Juliet sets out to clear his name. She’ll do whatever it takes—even if it means standing up to the police, her ex-boyfriend, and the grande dames of Nashville. But there isn’t enough espresso in the world for the greatest challenge in her path: infiltrating Nashville’s high society to uncover the hidden hotbed of scandal without running afoul of the law herself. With her last dime staked on Pete’s bail bond and her staff growing jittery, the last thing Juliet needs is for her trademark temper to land her behind bars. As time drips away, Juliet needs to crack this case before the killer comes back for another shot.

Praise for Mug Shot

“The humorous and witty dialogue, mixed with romantic tension and a puzzling mystery is a fresh and unique combination. Juliet’s first-person narrative is humorous at times and poignant at others, making her a loveable character I can’t help but cheer on. . . . The mystery-suspense elements are truly tense on an emotional level. . . . This series is delightful, well written, and wildly entertaining.”—Suspense Magazine

“The story is fast-paced and keeps you guessing to the very end. This author comes up with some very interesting ways to kill someone, and her injection of humor at just the right time is perfect. On its own, Mug Shot is a really good read, but if you follow the series, it will be even better.”—Linda Thompson, host of The Authors Show

“Another winner . . . Just like the first book, this one is peppered with funny scenes. . . . This is a good series and I highly suggest reading.”—Storeybook Reviews

“Once you start, you’ll want to finish it. Can’t wait for more caffeine-driven escapades.”—Sweet Mystery Books

Great cozy mystery!. I received an ARC from Netgalley via the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This is the second book in the Java Jive Mystery Series by Caroline Fardig. Juliet Langley is again involved in a murder, this time not as a suspect, but as a concerned friend. Pete is the main suspect in a gruesome murder, and Juliet takes it upon herself, with a little bit of help from Ryder, to figure out this whodunnit so Pete doesn't rot in jail. This is a great cozy mystery that has some crazy-funny characters. Very enjoyable.

Great Read. Loved this book, it was really hard to put down until the end. Great characters!!

This book was a hit!!. I loved this book. The author did an amazing job building the characters and the plot. I could not put it down. It was smooth and easy to follow along. It had enough suspense to keep me entertained. I was so happy I got chosen through the chatterbox to read this for free but I would of paid money to read it.

Caffeinated Cozy Mystery. I was able to read this book for free through the Chatterbox House Party program. However, after finishing the book, I ended up buying the first book in the series, because I thoroughly enjoyed this one! If you're a fan of cozy mysteries, this is perfect for you! Juliet is a character with a lot of layers, and her life takes a lot of twists and turns. There's romance and intrigue, and a surprise at the end! Highly recommended.

A great fast paced and fun book.. Mug Shot: A Java Jive Mystery by Caroline Fardig is the first book I have read by this author and I thought it was a fun read. It was a fast-paced story that has a very unexpected ending! I loved the humor and did not have a problem keeping up with the story even though I had not read the first story in this series. In the story Juliet Langley works at Java Jive, a coffeehouse owned by her best friend, Pete Bennett. Juliet is helping prepare for a race that is being organized by Pete’s girlfriend, Cecilia Hollingsworth, whom Juliet does not care for in the least. With some bad luck Juliet ends up finding Cecilia’s dead body in the booth the morning of the race. Pete is then arrested for the murder and Juliet will do ANYTHING to clear his name. Having to deal with other socialites, including her insufferable boyfriend as well as her own hot temper, Juliet is walking a fine line in getting into trouble herself. I loved this book and like I said was very surprised at the ending. 5 out of 5 stars!!! I was seletcted by Chatterbox to read this book for free in exchange for my honest review and opinions!

Fast, fun read. This book was the second in a series and every bit as much fun to read as the first. It is chick lit in much the same way an Evonovich is. Quick, easy reading with laughs throughout. Great reading for a rainy day. Thanks to Net Galley and Alibi for an ARC for an honest review.

Mug Shots is a great read!!!. If like Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum stories than you will enjoy the Java Jive series. True this is the first book I've read in the series, but you can get a very good feel for the writer and series's. I liked how well written the story was, and how it was easy to follow, even with all the characters that kept popping up. Juliet a former musician now manager of Java Jive is best friends with Pete, the owner. When Pete's girlfriend Cecilia is murdered, Pete is charged. Juliet enlists her best female friend Savannah, a rich society gal, who has all the connections Juliet needs to help prove Pete's innocence. Along the way Juliet is dating the brother of the deceased, Stan, and her ex-boyfriend, who happens to be a cop, Ryder, all help in their own ways. This is a true mystery, cheating, surprise pregnancies, who benefits the most from the killing, businesses going bankrupt, blackmailing, extortion, just to name a few. I would like to add, I was giving this book in advance from Random House Mystery to read, and review, but the review is strictly my own thoughts and opinions.

Great series. Mug Shot book two in The Java Jive mystery series is not your grandmothers cozy. This is jam packed full of mystery, adventure, as well as piss and vinegar. I love this series with its strong red headed She Devil Juliet. She is the manager at the Java Jive Coffee shop owned by her best friend Pete who she has been in love with since college but that's another story. Pete is still with Cecilla Hollingsworth a snooty socialite that is Jules arch nemesis. Java Jive is to be at the end of the Holiday 5k with coffee and cookies. Jules goes to set up the tent but instead she finds Cecilla dead laying dead with a milk frothing thermometer sticking out of her neck. Guess who's fingerprints and DNA are all over Cecilla? Yes, the prime suspect, Pete! Sexy Detective Ryder was there helping deliver the cookies so he called in and Detective Cromwell shows up. Yikes! Juliet finds out that Pete has a lot of evidence stacked up against him. She is going to do everything she can to keep him out of jail. She ends up going against Ryder and Cromwell to investigate on her own! Will Jules be able to keep Pete out of jail? Will Jules be able to keep herself out of jail while trying to help? The ending to this book was so unexpected I was shocked!!! I really loved not knowing who murdered Cecilla until the end. There are so many suspects you will be on the edge of your seat. This book has twists and turns galore. Can't wait for book three. I recieved this book from NetGalley for an honest opinion.

Mug Shot. I received a free copy of this book through Random House/Chatterbox. I loved this book. Highly recommended.

Great read. Great story, great characters, great read! Couldn't put the book down!

Caroline Fardig's Mug Shot. Juliet Langley has returned to the Java Jive coffee shop where she had worked during college. Juliet is working for Peter Bennett, the son of the deceased owner. She manages the shop. Pete has a socialite girlfriend who is organizing a charity event….the annual Holiday 5K Race. The Java Jive has a booth at the race to sell cookies and drinks. Juliet arrives early in the morning with the cookies. Upon entering the booth, Juliet finds a body….a dead body !!!! The body is Cecilia Hollingsworth, Pete’s socialite girlfriend. Pete gets arrested for murder. Then the story takes off. Juliet decides to clear Pete. The Redheaded Devil to hopefully ridethe rescue!!! Her escapades lead to danger, suspense, humor, being rescued by her desired cop boyfriend, meeting with unsavory characters, getting a broken finger and punched in the jaw. Will she be able to solve the murder and remain unharmed? This is the second book in the Java Jive Mysteries series. It can be read as a stand alone. Thank you to Alibi via Net Gallery for this eBook. My opinion is my own.

I could not put this down!. I recently was able to read Mug Shot for free through Chatterbox in exchange for my review. With that said, I could not put down this book! It was so good! I absolutely fell in love with the charactures. There is a love story between a few of the caractures so not only are you wondering who the murderer is you are also wondering who Juliet is going to end up with or what is going to happen with her. I also love that shes willing to break the rules and go against what everyone tells her to save a friend. I stayed up until midnight just so I could finish the book and I can say I never saw the ending coming.

Loved It!!!. I LOVED this book! It's the second book in the Java Jive series that introduced us to Juliet and Pete. In Mug Shot, Pete gets arrested for his girlfriend's murder. Juliet is convinced he's innocent and that the police believe they've arrested the right guy. Once more, Juliet begins investigating on her own. What follows is Juliet employing her "unique" investigative skills (or lack thereof) that leads to humorous and dangerous results. This is a fun and quick read that fans of the genre will love. While it is a stand alone novel, it is so good that you really owe it to yourself to also read the first book, Death Before Decaf. I received this book free from Chatterbox in return for my honest opinion!

Great read. This was a really entertaining mystery.

great read. This is my first time reading Caroline Fardig and I really liked it. Story kept me engaged I could not put this book down. A great story I recommend to anyone who likes a great read. I received this book for free for my honest opinion as part of chatterbox. I honestly loved it.

Good read. Read this book in just a few days. I loved this story. Some nice twists and lots of good humor.

Good Mystery. I enjoyed getting to read this mystery early thanks to the chat pack from Chatterbox! I was surprised to find out who the guilty person was – I did not see it coming. It was enjoyable to be kept guessing right until the end! Even though this was the second book in a series and I had not read the first, the author made it easy to pick up where the story was and not feel I was left out on details of the characters from the first book. Not only was the mystery part of the book very good, there was also a romance built in. I found myself waffling over who I felt Juliet should be with! The only thing I did not care for about the book was the language. Perhaps I’m “too old” and not hip enough for this (I’m only early forties!), but I thought the story would have been just as enjoyable (if not more so) without the cursing and off-color language. Not that the book was full of this, but I just didn’t see where it added to the book at all. I understand that Juliet is a feisty redhead, but so am I and I think those who know me and those who meet me for the first time can get that about me without my having to talk like a sailor. All in all, I would very much recommend this book but with a warning about the language.

Give Me Another Shot. This is the second in the series and I can't wait to read the first. Juliet is the heroine of the story, her best friend is arrested for murder. She works overtime to prove his innocence. The characters are vivid, the story keeps moving and you second guess yourself. Its not until the very end that the killer is revealed. Could not put it down. Think I'll have another cup! I received a free copy from Houseparty, to read and review.

The Suspense and Fun Continue. I love the Java Jive stories because they are so well-written and the characters are genuine fun. This one has no shortage of outrageous and hilarious action, with new characters in depth. The mystery of who killed Peter's girlfriend, Cecilia, remains unsolved right up to the end, with no end of possible suspects, and a true surprise. The quirky romance between Ryder and Juliet provides spirited entertainment throughout the story. It is not necessary to read the first story in this series to fully appreciate this one, but it is worth a read on its own.

A quick, fun, read!. I received a complimentary copy of this book from House Party/Chatterbox. This was the first work I've ready by Fardig, but it won't be the last! I greatly enjoyed this mystery and look forward to more in the series (and it seems like there was one before this as well). Juliet rarely has a moment to herself as she's managing her best friend Pete's coffee shop, as well as dealing with various "obstacles" she happens to trip over! When Pete's girlfriend winds up murdered, Juliet works hard to discover who the murderer is, while trying to keep the shop open and her relationship intact. "Mug Shot" is a light and fun read that will keep you guessing. I finished it in under two days reading just in the evenings and on a flight. I look forward to reading more from this author!

Must read!!!!. This is the best mystery/murder, romance, laugh of loud series!!! Love everything about this book. Great read and can't wait for more!!!!

Trouble with a sense of humor. This is the second of a series. I really enjoy the humor of these books. Juliet finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation that affects her best friend, Pete. Trying to prove his innocence brings her back into the circle of Ryder. The situations that Juliet gets herself into are dangerous, but the dialogue made me smile, even laugh at times. I highly recommend this book, series, and author.

Mug Shot. If you love a good, fast paced mystery full of adventure then you will love the 2nd book in the Java Jive series " Mugshot " by Caroline Fardig. Our heroine, Juliet, once again gets herself in the middle of a sticky situation. I just can't wait to read the next book in this series! I received this book via chatterbox as part of a free party pak.

MugShot. Got to read this book for free thru house party and chatterbox. Was well worth the time.

Mug Shot. This book is a real page turner! I love the characters and the storyline! It's a must read for sure!!!

Mugshot sample. I only got to read an excerpt but it seems like it would be a book worth reading.

Thrilling. This was a fun book that I could not put down. Really kept me interested and on the edge of my seat that I read the book in 12 hours. I really enjoy mysteries but romance is still my favorite loved that fact that this book had both and kept me wanting more. Really happy I got to sample this book and will be look for more book by this author. I received this book free thanks to house party but my opinion is my own

Second in Java Jive series delivers. Mug Shot is the second book in Caroline Fardig's Java Jive Mystery Series. In this installment, Juliete Langley, manager of Java Jive coffee shop, is bound and determined to find evidence to clear her best friend and Java Jive owner, Pete Bennett, of the murder of his girlfriend, Nashville socialite Cecilia Hollongsworth. Although Juliete and Cecilia were never friends, in fact you could say they were enemies, Juliete is moved by her death and seeks to bring the killer to justice, especially since it will clear her best friend. Her unorthodox methods of investigation put her at risk yet she is able to learn and tell police of her findings. Even though her on again off again boyfriend, Detective Ryder Hamilton, continually cautions her, even following her, he is not there when she makes startling discoveries that put her life in peril. With a host of suspects, a tawdry backstory of what Cecilia was up to, and a devoted friendship in the mix, Mug Shot is an intricately woven mystery that will keep you guessing until the very end. As with her other mystery novels, Caroline Fardig has again plotted a mystery that will keep you page turning late into the night. I do recommend Mug Shot, it definitely delivers

Hooked me in!. I loved this book. The first one in this series hooked me in the first few pages so one the second one came out I had to read it. I read both books in 4 days. Juliet is an intriguing, smart and fun character. I love murder mysteries and couldn't put this book down.
