The Whistler by John Grisham Book Summary
#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • A high-stakes thrill ride through the darkest corners of the Sunshine State, from the author hailed as “the best thriller writer alive” by Ken Follett
We expect our judges to be honest and wise. Their integrity is the bedrock of the entire judicial system. We trust them to ensure fair trials, to protect the rights of all litigants, to punish those who do wrong, and to oversee the flow of justice. But what happens when a judge bends the law or takes a bribe?
Lacy Stoltz is an investigator for the Florida Board on Judicial Conduct. It is her job to respond to complaints dealing with judicial misconduct. After nine years with the Board, she knows that most problems are caused by incompetence, not corruption.
But a corruption case eventually crosses her desk. A previously disbarred lawyer is back in business, and he claims to know of a Florida judge who has stolen more money than all other crooked judges combined. And not just crooked judges in Florida. All judges, from all states, and throughout United States history. And now he wants to put a stop to it. His only client is a person who knows the truth and wants to blow the whistle and collect millions under Florida law. When the case is assigned to Lacy, she immediately suspects that this one could be dangerous. Dangerous is one thing. Deadly is something else.
“[A] main character [who’s] a seriously appealing woman . . . a whistle-blower who secretly calls attention to corruption . . . a strong and frightening sense of place . . . [John Grisham’s] on his game.”—Janet Maslin, The New York Times
“[John Grisham is] our guide to the byways and backwaters of our legal system, superb in particular at ferreting out its vulnerabilities and dramatizing their abuse in gripping style.”—USA Today
“Riveting . . . an elaborate conspiracy.”—The New York Times Book Review

Boring. Just boring
Local mafia threatens Florida ethics lawyers Who don't carry guns. Gresham writes a great story where fairly normal citizens (including the state attorneys who investigate ethics issues of judges) are put into terrifying situations where their lives are threatened by vicious gangsters who run casinos, real estate scams and murder-for-hire schemes. Intimidation is the name of their game and these gangsters are very good at it.
Enjoyed this writing. This was an exceptional read. Was into this from the beginning. Will look forward to the next!
Loved it!. A real page turner! Couldn’t put it down!
The Whistler. A terrific page turner with a complicated, if predictable, plot and interesting characters. Really enjoyable for me. It’s part of a good series. Thanks Mr. Grisham
Good summer read. I enjoyed the story but was looking for more. It felt a bit unfinished almost rushed... guess he was trying to meet that deadline.
The Whistler. Real page turner. Finished book in three days
Great!!. One of the best books I have read of this great author. Thank you John Grisham.
The Whistler. An outstanding book I greatly enjoyed reading! Just thrilling. Loved all the characters (except Vonn and partners of course).
The Whistler. Riveting story of crime and justice. Hard to put down, sad to get to the last page.
The whistler. I hope this was a ghost writer because if it’s not it’s the worst Grisham I’ve read and he’s lost his fastball. Hard to slog through it.
Disappointing. Most of John Grisham’s earlier books are great, but I’ve noticed since he released Calico Joe his books have gotten worse and that includes this title the Whistler. Take my advice and whistle a little tune to yourself and skip pass this story.
Great book.. Another amazing book.
Great read. It was a great read however in the middle it dragged a bit but it came full circle. Great ending good guys win sometimes..
Borrrring. Utterly dreadful. Blithering on and on and on - no character development, and not a Single character who was remotely appealing in Any way. No plot, no point. Just a DREADFUL waste of time - would crawl on ground glass for a refund. sheesh.
Just...ok. It was good enough to kill time but it was very bland. The story started to build then good overcame and it was over. It was almost like he got tired of writing. This is one of those books you keep by the toilet at home. It'll pass the time but don't expect much more than that.
Great book!. 5/5 Been a long time since I read such a good book. Still one of my favorite authors. Mark ***** Diana
Kinda looking for more. Story was deep and interesting but lacked the big payoff.
Entertaining with many twist and turns. Well written.
The Whistler. A real page turner.
The Whistler. Excellent novel, mystery. Held me captive for many days reading the story and trying to determine where the author would take u next. I have enjoyed reading John Grishams books for over 20 years and he did not disappoint me now ! Excellent novel!!!! Gary Baker
The Whistler. One of the worlds best books. I do not think I have ever read a better book.
Whistler. Couldn’t put it down. Great read. Highly recommend.
The Whistler. An exciting story. Enjoyed the characters. It was areal Surprise when Hugo died. Made me sad. The ending got in loved. A clearer explanation would have been appreciated
The WORST. The worst writing by John Grisham . Complete waste of money and time invested.
The Whistler. The worst Grisham book yet.
Love The Story. Love The Book Just Started Reading It
Wonderful read. Mr Grisham never lets his readers down. I really enjoyed this book
It almost tries too hard. [I received this paperback in a GoodReads win,and voluntarily reviewed it. Because I won it, it will not list as a verified purchase] "Beautiful.'It's called intimidation Clyde. That's the name of the game and that's how I run things.'" Lacy Stolz works for the Florida Board of Judicial Conduct, and she's really good at her job. She and her co worker have a case that could have the potential to rock the Florida Court System off its pedestal. Not only was there a corrupt judge, but the "Coast Mafia" and the Tappacola Indian Tribe are mixed up in a case with far reaching connections. And when her car gets totaled, her partner gets killed and she almost loses her life, she is determined to see this case through to it's end. To my thinking, John Grisham and thriller go together. In my opinion,The Firm, was my introduction to crime fiction as I rapidly devoured each of his books ( A Time to Kill is still my favorite) until, one day, I just stopped. He kept cranking them out, but the got a bit too cerebral and formulaic, like he was a professor sharing just too much information. All this to say this is my first Grisham book in a while. I think it was a bit too long with too many plot points. I did love the character Lacy Stoltz and I wanted to drop her brother off the side of a cliff. I do recommend it for its contemporary use of known news and speculation. However, it almost tries to hard.
The Whistler. Excellent book!! I was instantly hooked and could barely put it down until I was finished. At the end, with my heart pounding, I was glad Everyone got what they deserved. 😊
The Whistler. An Overwelming obvious ending, exhaustingly summarized
Another Grisham Masterpiece. Great read! Thoroughly absorbing.
Zzzzzzzz. The plot was admittedly boring. I was hoping for more even halfway thru, but it continued to disappoint and I was beyond the point of no return. I love Grisham, but I consider this a sunk cost.
Most exciting Grisham book in years!. I have read every John Grisham legal novel and this one takes me back to the early days of The Firm and The Pelican Brief. Excellent read!
It's just st ok. Nothing great
Snooze fest. What a boring, drawn out book! No character building couldn't finish it shoot enough
Great read!!. Well written and very descriptive plot.
The Whistler. John Grisham
Fast paced. Great read.
The reckoning. Where is the rest of the novel? I'm ready to read on!
The Whistler. I've read every Grisham book from day one. This is absolutely the best
Time for Mercy. A very thoughtful yet compelling read.
Newspaper account. I felt the 2nd half of book was like reading a news article about some white collar crimes. Lack of twists
The Whistler. This book was well constructed, almost too well built. The main characters and overall plot were intricately described for about 80% of the book and moved very slowly. The conclusion, in the last part of the book, moved very quickly to a fairly obvious conclusion. Overall the book was enjoyable, but lacked drama and excitement.
Great Read. Another awesome book by Grisham that makes it hard to put down. Highly suggested if you love the genre.
WOW. Fantastic. So believable I would not be surprised if I turned out to be completely true. Always liked Grisham, now very near to the top.
Nice Read. After I began I had to keep going. A little slow at first, and I would’ve appreciated more description but great book overall.
#All rise #. The bestseller.
Great read. Please make more of these!
Great Read. Very interesting read and suspenseful book. Kept you guessing if characters would survive.

Awesome. When I started reading I couldn't stop. If this is the genre of books you read this is a good book
The Whistler. Good book with lots of characters (at times hard to keep them all in place). I enjoyed until the end, not to predictable and an interesting story.
The Whistler. This was a great read, I had not intended to stay up half the night to read the book but once I got stared I couldn't put it down. Another beauty by John Grisham!
Wow. A page turner from beginning to end
A great thriller. This book is has a great story and characters. I had a hard time putting the book down every time I started reading. Very well written.
The Whistler. Nice story with a great ending.
The whistler. John is an amazing author. I enjoy all his writings!
Standard. An excellent hook pulls you into the book and the plot is interesting. Would have liked a bit more action as it seemed to fizzle out at the end.
