The Rule Book. The Rule Book by Jennifer Blackwood is book number one in the Rule Breakers series. This is Lainey Taylor and Brogan Starr’s story. Brogan is CEO of Starr Media where Lainey has been hired as his second-assistant. Brogan has created a rule book that he expects his employees to follow. Brogan and Lainey are definitely attracted to each other but according to the rule book a relationship is off-limits. Will they be able to follow this rule or give in to the attraction? This book is different and may not be for everyone. But, it was entertaining with some funny and very serious moments even though at time the characters did frustrate me. The intimate scenes fade out. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Good book. The book was an easy read. Funny in a lot of parts.

Please fix spelling errors. The story was pretty good but can’t it be proofread? Nothing loses confidence in an author like spelling errors in a published book I’ve paid to read.

Way too PG. The story line was good, but I seek R rated with my adult romance. This was seriously pg...all the build up with no action. Also, all the early 90's references just didn't add up for this 24yo character.

So cute!. This book is really great! I love Lainey. She is sassy and funny and knows what she wants/deserves. Together, her and The Anitchrist are perfect!

LOVED!. This book is so sweet the characters really grow on you. I could not put it down.

Office romance. This was a good work place romance. Lainey gets a job as second assistant to Brogan Starr in his social media company. On her second day she makes some questionable comments about her boss...unknowingly to him. Luckily she doesn’t lose her job. Of course this makes her interesting to Brogan and even though he wants to stay away there is just something about Lainey that draws him in. I liked how Brogan didn’t make it easy for her to like him at all times, he jumped to conclusions about her even realizing that it didn’t sound like something she would do. But his life revolves around his work/company and he doesn’t want anything to interfere. Luckily Brogan is good at groveling and Lainey is a forgiving woman. This was a great book and I am looking forward to reading the next in the series.

Great read!. I really enjoyed the book. Lainey's point of view was so honest and relatable!! Thank you for making her real. The way she was honest and true to her self made me cheer her on all through the book, not to mention her humorous side, I found myself laughing out loud! The book was was tough to put down until knew how they ended up. It's so good to read a love story where a women knows who she is and sticks to it! Cheers to you! Can't wait for the next book!

Good but.... So this was a good read, but there several parts that mirrored too closely to Fifty Shades minus the erotic sex scenes. I feel like I ended up comparing the two books more than just reading a new book.

The Rule Book is a super fun read!. Let me start by saying I read this book in less than 24 hours. What a fun read! The characters were entertaining and relatable. The dialogue was witty and charming. I wish the book was longer! Or had a sequel! Or a second book from Brogan's point of view! I really enjoyed reading this book and wish for more on these characters. I highly recommend.

Love love love!. I loved this book and I didn't want to put it down! It kept me interested the entire time. Unlike most books I wasn't looking to see how much I had left to read because I was bored, instead I was looking at the time to see if I could fit in another chapter before it got too insanely late.

A very nice change of pace because it was a bit slow in the beginning but don't let that discourage you, it was a great read, Lainey will have you laughing throughout the book! It made me laugh, outloud.. Lainey’s character had me laughing out loud several times. The AntiChrist/lunchroom encounter was hilarious. I enjoyed the story, and the characters. I even enjoyed how Brogan was so entertained by her. I’m not normally a drooling dog fan but even Lainey and Bruce made me smile.

Mostly great. I liked this story a lot. Lainey is so sassy and ballsy. One thing I was disappointed about was that the sex scenes were straight skipped! With how sexy the rest of the book was, I was sorely disappointed when the sex scenes were all but missing. It’s not like this was a PG book. There’s a lot of cussing and sexual terms, so why skip the sex scenes? This book could have been much better if they were not skipped.

Synopsis sounds like this would be a wickedly delightful romantic comedy. Looking Deeper: First-Person POV. Freshly graduated from college with her MBA in hand, Lainey moves 200 miles away from home and her ailing mother for the opportunity at better pay with a Fortune 500 company run by a man that her supervisor refers to as "The Antichrist". Narrated from her POV, Lainey chronicles her days at work and all the stress, mayhem, and hilarity that encompasses the job. Half-way through the book, it still reads more as a Comedic Drama with glimpses of sexual tension, no romance, mostly daily toil and angst. There is a lot of foot-in-mouth syndrome from Lainey any time she's near Brogan, but they make an endearing duo. Gradually (and I mean painfully so), they begin to build on their mutual attraction and the chemistry between them becomes more evident. The scant few secondary characters are entertaining. Dialogue and interaction is smart, fun, and natural feeling. The plot moves along at a smooth and fluid pace, but it is not very dynamic. There are a few minor external conflicts that are resolved quite quickly, but more, Brogan seems to be his own biggest hurdle and it takes until the very end to get himself resolved. There is some points of predictability throughout and although they are each fairly small, not much is left to surprise the reader. The conclusion is good, mostly solid. Overall, it's not a bad read, but if you are looking for a full-out Romantic Comedy, be forewarned that this one is a LATE bloomer and most of the "action" is implied. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Rating: [PG-13]~ Score: 4.0 ~ Stars: 4 -------------------------------------------------------------------------

Review: The Rule Breakers 1: The Rule Book. The Rule Book by Jennifer Blackwood is the first book in her new series The Rule Breakers. This is a romance that will have you laughing out loud AND growling in frustration throughout. Told from Lainey's POV, which is hilarious BTW, we join her in her new job at Starr Media and meet her new boss (AKA The Antichrist), and her new co-workers (Some nice, some NOT), and learn about her awesome bestie and roommate and her wonderfully strong mother. With one mishap after another this story was engaging and surprising and wonderfully romantic. The build up between Lainey and Brogan (love the name) is exquisite and the happy ever after is worth the journey. Love this authors works to date and this is no exception.

Endearing. This is a great summer read that won’t leave you disappointed. The characters were fun and engaging with several LOL moments.

Rules were meant to be broken. This was a fun read for me. Lainey was full of spunk and made things more interesting to read from her perspective. An insight on Brogans perspective would've been nice to see as the two worked through their differences and stubbornness.

Ridiculously good. When I first picked up this book I just finished reading a really depressing novel and just wanted to read something light, funny, and romantic, and this book was exactly what I was looking for! It had the right amount of drama, romance, and heartbreak, it just worked. If your contemplating reading this book, just do it! It's a great light read and an absolute page turner! Enjoy the read!! :)

Couldn’t put it down!. I’ve read quite a few books this last year and I read this in the space of three evenings. I couldn’t put it down, laugh out loud funny in numerous places and I even came across two words I didn’t know so learned something too! I’ll be reading Book 2 next and hope they’ll be more added to the Rule Breaker collection. A must read!

The interactions between Lainey and the 'Anti Christ' had me in tears of laughter! The story is engaging, romantic and absolutely lovely. Disappointing. All of the build up and none of the bang. It was a great story line and I loved the characters but the PG vibe left me feeling frustrated and like so much of the story took place behind closed doors that the reader wasn’t privy to. It also would have been nice if some of the story was told from his perspective instead of all hers.
