Boring. Only made it about half way through. So boring I couldn’t finish.

Stereotypes. There were a lot of gross stereotypical things for characters that were unnecessary. I read the sample and had to turn the book away. The black child and his mom were poorly represented first of all. The author made the mom a single mom who gave birth as a teen and the father died from what the character “guesses” to be gang violence? GUESSES? Like how do you just guess that? Because they’re black? To mention that the character was black was necessary but to create that backstory was ridiculous. AND THE NAMES? Are we serious! I had to absolutely stop when it came to the mentally challenged janitor whose happy but with a “low IQ”. Like why? Why is this necessary? I just couldn’t stop cringing and I had to give up.

Shelter for Sophie. It would have been a beautiful story ad was until you introduced Graphic Sex into the story. I do not know how many pages I skipped over but It was quite a few. Sex is a private union between A Man And a Woman in the confines of Marriage.

The wait is finally over. When we met Chief in the last book in the Badge of Honor series I knew I couldn’t wait for his book to come out. He didn’t disappoint! I enjoyed this book a lot and I love a heroine that even with a disability (a stutter) she doesn’t let it affect her daily life. The hero also doesn’t let a misunderstand get in the way of getting the girl and makes him take a look at himself to realize he judge wrongly. You also don’t have to have read the other books in the series to enjoy this one. They are all standalone books with friends finding their HEAs.

Sweet reading. Loved the book, the storyline was good and the characters were solid.

A new favorite. This is book 8 of the Badge of Honor series; while this book works well as a standalone, due to appearances by characters from earlier books as well as (brief) references to some of those storylines, I'd recommend reading the series in order to get maximum enjoyment from this story. I've been eagerly awaiting this book for a while now, really since first being introduced to Roman, that enigmatic Native American firefighter who doesn't mind that his nickname is "Chief". I was a little concerned that his leading lady wouldn't match up but Sophie more than held her own, and I loved the way she was willing to go toe-to-toe when needed whether advocating for the burn patients she worked with or homeless people she'd befriended, just like she wasn't afraid to tell off Roman when he deserved it, all in spite of her shyness. As for Roman, I think I'd have to say he's my favorite in a long line of yummy leading men from this author. A sexy firefighter who's not afraid to admit when he's wrong, protective and caring, hiding a vulnerability of his own under that stoic exterior, well, he was just about irresistible. Add in the intriguing cultural background and I was completely hooked. With two extraordinary main characters, a well-paced storyline utilizing Roman's Native American heritage that kept me engaged, plus a whole host of great secondary characters both new and old, this is a new favorite from this author. 5 stars. Shelter for Sophie. First time reading this author. There were parts I liked, parts I thought were unnecessary, parts that were just too silly to take seriously.

Disappointing. This book is full of stereotypical views about Black people and it is disgusting. Don’t read, don’t waste your time, and definitely don’t spend a dime.

Another Best Seller has FINALLY arrived!!. This story starts off with a bang! Everyone is at a bar (at their own tables of course). 1 of them overhears (eavesdrops actually) on the other and you can imagine what fun Susan Stoker had with us there. It just gets better and better from there. The entire book has a great flow to it and the audio version is OUTSTANDING! Erin the narrator did an outstanding job with Sofies stutter. There are so many cumbs/crumbles, Easter Eggs, clues (whatever you like to call them) throughout this book for things to come. You Will NOT regret reading this story at all!!!

Interesting!!. I really enjoyed Sophie and Chief's story! Their story is interesting, engaging and sexy. The best part about reading this story for me, was learning some of Chief's background and Navajo traditions and superstition. Sophie had my heart right off the bat! That girl rocks!! What she does helping burn victim is awesome! I love this author's stories and this one did not disappoint!

Shelter for Sophie. Wow! I was moved to tears in parts of this story. I have never read a book with all the perfect attention to detail of the different disabilities tossed in with coverage of the Navajo beliefs. I couldn’t put it down!

Great story. Really good storyline and characters. Chief meets Sophie and is immediately intrigued but not sure she is a good person because he totally misunderstood something that was said. He soon learns Sophie’s true and good heart and knows he has found the other half of his soul. Intrigue, greed, and a great love all are part of this story.

Very Enjoyable. This eighth book in the Badge of Honor series is no disappointment. This time it’s Chief’s turn to find his one and only. (Roman) Chief has great pride in his Navajo culture and respect for the beliefs of his people. When he meets Sophie, he finds someone who always respects others and who is kind hearted to a fault. After some misunderstandings, he also discovers a deep connection, someone who compliments his personality and gets him talking, and who he would protect at all costs. A great read!

Loving life. What a powerful book, of culture, disabilities and love. Chief and Sophie finding love. I loved how Sophie adapted to different cultures and not judging the homeless. Such a kind beautiful character. Well written in many ways.

Loved it!. Loved the romance between sweet Sophie and strong, silent Chief. I really loved the Navajo beliefs and stories Chief told and they made this story one of my favourites in the series. Highly recommend.

Strong start, whimper ending. The ending AGAIN felt like an after thought. Also some if the cultural belief stuff should have been introduced a little earlier, because dumping it after the big bad felt like “oh yeah that stuff”. Also the teen and his mum were dropped by the end so all we got was they’re doing well comment. It’s So disappointing when a book starts off as strongly as this one (and every other book in the series) does and then stumbles and basically falls face first at the end. You keep expecting a big confrontation but get a whimper and a generically happy ending that feels unrealistically ideal given the subject matters the story otherwise deals with. However it was a good story. The relationship between Chief (Roman) and Sophie was nice and developed at a somewhat reasonable pace. But some of the background stuff felt off, hollow even. It made the characters seem 2D at times which was disappointing when they seemed so much more rounded and well fleshed out in other parts.
