Origin by Dan Brown Book Summary

#1 WORLDWIDE BESTSELLER • "Dr. Langdon is once again wrapped up in a global-scale event that could have massive ramifications on the world’s religions. As he does in all his novels, Brown[‘s] extensive research on art, architecture, and history informs every page." —Entertainment Weekly

Robert Langdon, Harvard professor of symbology, arrives at the ultramodern Guggenheim Museum Bilbao to attend the unveiling of a discovery that “will change the face of science forever.” The evening’s host is Edmond Kirsch, a forty-year-old billionaire and futurist, and one of Langdon’s first students.

But the meticulously orchestrated evening suddenly erupts into chaos, and Kirsch’s precious discovery teeters on the brink of being lost forever. Facing an imminent threat, Langdon is forced to flee. With him is Ambra Vidal, the elegant museum director who worked with Kirsch. They travel to Barcelona on a perilous quest to locate a cryptic password that will unlock Kirsch’s secret.

Navigating the dark corridors of hidden history and extreme religion, Langdon and Vidal must evade an enemy whose all-knowing power seems to emanate from Spain’s Royal Palace. They uncover clues that ultimately bring them face-to-face with Kirsch’s shocking discovery…and the breathtaking truth that has long eluded us.

Another Masterpiece Provoking Thought and Excitement. Dan Brown’s Origin continues his page turning style of weaving scientific and spiritual benchmarks with unconventional plausible possibilities as this story seem less fiction than non-fiction. Time will tell!

My new favorite!. Amazballs!!! Soooo many references to research that enhanced reading experience. Can’t wait TJ read it 2nd, 3rd, 4th time!

Once Again. Not surprising ....Dan Brown delivers yet another thought provoking thriller ! Bravo Dan !!

Origins. As ever and even more so, I so loved this book, this author is everything. Origins enveloped me from the beginning. In the middle I knew I had to leave everything else aside and could not put this book down. It never let me down as I completed reading till the end. Now I have much to think about and I need to visit Barcelona and walk the steps and see the sights as brilliantly written by Dan Brown. Linda Connally

Origin. Brown captures the truths and myth’s of religion and science in a profound telling that the world could benefit from reading. Well written, accessibility to todays wonders and yesterday’s beliefs.

Couldn’t put it down!. I am a huge fan of Dan Brown’s and this book had me captivated from beginning to end.

boring!. repeated paragraphs over and over and over forever …

Great. Dan Brown has a tendency to have amazing ideas, but formulaic writing. This book though was incredibly interesting and different. I really enjoyed it!

Origins. Totally relevant

Fun Book to Read. Excellent read. I love all the places Brown takes you in his novels.

Self indulgent tripe. Do not waste your time.

Easy read!. There’s a lot to unpack in a book that delves and intertwines fiction with non-fiction ideas. Origin does it cleverly and entertainingly. Sometimes the imagination for the actual storytelling lacks effort as you see the main effort is put forth in trying to make the notions believable and better yet, comprehensible, which in no doubt is done successfully. Nevertheless, a fun read with a lot of questions lingering afterwards-which to me, it’s how you realize if a novel is successful—by staying with the reader and challenging your own beliefs and understandings.

Why so critical?. I haven’t been able to put this book down. It feels a little slow at times but otherwise it’s a great story. I don’t understand the one star critical reviews of it. Lighten up already.

Most Excellent Story. When reading book after book like I do, the truly great ones really stand out! This is the best book I’ve read since I’ve read Night Train to Lisbon last year!

Origin. 4 ⭐️

Great concept but slightly predictable. The main concept in the book was very intriguing and extremely believable. A great twist on technology and the future. However, parts of the plot were predictable and made the overall story a bit disappointing. Definitely worth the read though.

Captivating. Great book but I would like to point out that humans did not evolve from chimpanzees and that the TRS-80 did not have a caps lock key.

Had to return in 2021. I was upset after reading this book back when it came out, now that it’s 2021, I can totally see the book happening in real life lol

60% Through & Tired Of Waiting. What a sad effort by an author I’ve thoroughly enjoyed up til now. This is not an intriguing history/art/symbology filled exciting drama. It’s a painfully slow atheist fueled scream, dragged out for hundreds and hundreds of pages of boring inner monologues, witless dialogue and plain silly characters, inhuman and human. Not remotely close to past storytelling standard.

Origin. Best of his books in my opinion.

A Fun and Enlightening Adventure. I enjoyed reading this novel, though it took me longer than I’d like to admit to finish it. It’s a good adventure for those that appreciate thinking about science, art, and religion. I’d recommend it as an easy, laid-back read for anyone that’s enjoyed Dan Brown’s previous work.

More droning than the Super Bowl LIII halftime show. Very interesting concept and the actual information pertaining to the reason for the book is most fascinating. But to get to that information you need to spend pages upon pages of endless tangents and droning of insignificant, partially related dribble. I hate discontinuing a book, but I may have to. If I’m in a not-so-good mood, this brings me lower, not higher. This book is the equivalent to reading a recipe from a mother’s online blog. They’ll give you their life story from conception to how they were inspired to make the dish before providing the recipe. If you like that sort of thing, then this is totally you!

Kept me on the edge of my seat!. As per Dan Brown ‘s usually, another great book. The amount of research must be astounding. One of the cathedral, my granddaughter and I visited so we felt part of the story. Keep writing Dan!

Twisting. So cool

Another book, another adventure. Thank you! I will always love a good book and you’ve always provided me with one. I have many authors that I look forward to reading, your books however, I preorder. Thanks again for a great read, an historical adventure, and the fast paced page turning!

Origin. Very exasperating. It took 2/3rds of the book just to get the passcode. It was like reading Robert Jordan in that regard . Overall I am amazed at the answer the book gave in answer to deep questions( where we from and where we are going). I personally am a religionist. So I agree with Professor Langdon’s answer in patterns and codes

Wonderful Book. Once I picked up this book I could hardly put it down. I will recommend this book to all I know.

Suspense and Philosophy. This book has all the usual suspense, but then at the end it’s amazingly philosophical as well. I spent the entire book desperately wanting to know what the big announcement was, but that was kind of anticlimactic. There was nothing new in the announcement, even for 2017. Winston, as a character, was the most intriguing and brought the philosophical twist. He’s certainly something of an antihero, which certainly adds to the philosophical dimension. This is my favourite Robert Langdon novel yet, but I certainly hope there is another in the works as we speak.

Origin. Another great book from Dan. Download and read it.

Origin. Thought-provoking. A bit too long for the essence. Character development is just okay. Plot has one or two “rational leaps”. Overall I enjoyed it and had no trouble reading it all.

Origin. Typical Dan Brown, so, should be liked by his fans. A little predictable for me but as always, quite educational.

Mediocre. I loved most of Dan Browns books but this is by far the worst.

Captivating and thrilling. This is not masterpiece in literature, but Brown’s stories are always intriguing, appealing, and fun to read. I enjoyed the recollections of some of my favorite places in Spain (Bilbao and Barcelona). I just finished this one and I am already looking forward to reading Professor Langdon’s next adventure...

Origin. Like all of Dan Brown’s books, it is very enjoyable, entertaining and leaves you with something positive to think about.

Provocative. This is a deeply provocative novel with far reaching ideas and thoughts. Loved all the references to Spanish history!

Origin, a review. From the start, I could not put it down. Riveting and suspenseful. The author described all the key places in such graphic detail, he created a perfect picture in my minds eye. I believe I shall read it once again. Mary Cato-Ewald

Best of the best. I loved this book as I do of all dan brown’s works. Can’t wait for the next one!

not challenging enough, a bit boring!. somewhat disappointing !

It’s enjoyable. At the beginning of this book I thought the only way it would be superb is if we learned it was written entirely by AI. Seems like that wasn’t the case. It was fun to lose yourself for a bit in this absurd character. The connections between art, history and politics felt a little square peg round hole, and the final revelation that is tirelessly referenced throughout was a huge letdown. Still a decent distraction with a familiar character.

Excellent!. To date, this is my favorite Dan Brown novel...amazing story telling from the beginning to the end. Awesome!

Same Book, Different Title. This is the eternal Down Brown downfall. He took the formula from one of Crichton’s books and from then on he keeps writing the same book over and over again, just changing a few details... mostly the characters names. If you ever read any of Brown’s books, you unknowingly have read this one.

Love it. I’m from Puerto Rico, I bought this book by the time that hurricane María came to my Island. I swear that this book kept me reading all day and night long. This book literally saved me. I loved it...

A Gripping Story until the Reveal. The buildup was intense and gripping but the climax was rather disappointing not unlike a clickbait article. Interestingly, it was very obvious that it was someone of the older generation writing this novel by how he approached technology. Overall, not bad.

Couldn’t put it down. Now I really want to revisit Spain to see the sites described in the book that I missed on past visits. The storyline of Origin tends to follow the same pattern as Mr. Brown’s other Langdon books, but that is not necessarily a bad thing. However, I did figure out the conclusion of this book about three quarters of the way through it, but that just motivated me to keep reading to see if I was right. And, as another reviewer already mentioned, I do see how Mr. Brown could write a sequel because he did leave us with a few loose ends, but I won’t mention them for the sake of people who may be reading this review prior to reading the book. Anyway, if he does write a sequel, I will be one of the first in line to purchase it.

A quick and compelling read!. Once I started it, I could not put it down; I finished it in 3 days. 😊

Page turner. Like most of Dan Brown’s books, this one is a page turner. Before you know it, you’ve spent a few hours with the characters he’s masterfully created. Classic Dan at his best.

Good read. Not the best dan brown but still entertaining. At points it got a little predictable and a little slow, but still overall a good read.

The anticipation was killing me!. Dan Brown never fails to deliver. I was excited the whole time and failed to get a good nights rest in the 48hrs it took for me to finish. I couldn’t put it down and I was not disappointed. Who cares if my family was hungry. I was busy! Highly recommended.

Incredible Intellectual Thriller. Bringing together similar concepts to Ray Kurzweil’s Singularity is Near with a wild adventure - you’ll learn about religious evolution - impact of technology on our world today and what 2050 will look like as we “merge” with tech by that point in time... the first 80% of the book is an incredible adventure looking for the killer of a brilliant mind - great illustration and intelligence went into every scene - I was literally on the edge of my seat the entire time. I read this book entirely on my I iPhone Plus on 2 different cross country flights - most enjoyable choice for sure!!!

Another fascinating read. I took my time reading this book because i knew from the beginning that it was going to be captivating. It is very modern in many ways and linked to real life and real issues. There is a lot of depth. I will read it again. I highly recommend it.

Origin by Dan Brown. Dan Brown always exceeds my expectations and did so, spectacularly, in "Origin". I expected to be entertained but did not anticipate how firmly the story would grip me. I could not put it down, and tried to avoid going to sleep without reading just one more chapter. Alas, I was not a match for the combined effects of fatigue and gravity. Brown kept me guessing, trying to work out who the blame should fall upon for each new revelation and there were many. The characters were well developed and easy to relate to. Brown's vivid imagery of the churches, palaces and gardens of Spain, as well as the intriguing snippets of history surrounding them have formed a determination in me to see them for myself. I heartily recommend this novel.

Origin. Dan Brown has Perhaps the most creative mind in writing on this planet Looking forward to his next book Thank you

Never got going for me. Book was alright but nowhere as good as previous work. Don't see this one ever becoming a movie

Page turner. Excellent read, full of action, intrigue, romance and always makes you think. Cannot wait for the next book.....hope I don't have to wait four years!

Been here before. Read this book because I love Spain and wanted to relive some of my visits to Madrid area, however story line is too predictable. I wanted to further appreciate the historical locations, but there is no depth here to the characters. I feel like it is a Nancy Drew adventure.

Origin by Dan Brown. Dan Brown is my favourite author and when I saw this book Origin I was truly excited. I must admit though that I am disappointed by the ending, it lacks originality! On a personal note I also didn’t like the choice of modern art and Spain with all the details describing « modern » architecture. The story within the story with the aging King and the young King and his fiancé was superfluous! But I read the book, it was still a page turner as you want to know what’s happening, and then you get to the end 😶 ... personally I found it lacking. I’m disappointed 😔

Fun. Another great and easy read by Mr. Brown!

Not worth its price... or its hype. A predictable storyline, caracters who become caricatures of themselves, a chase between churches with Robert Langdon and a woman, all seen, done, written and read before. I couldn’t put down Angels and Demons, or Da Vinci code. This one was hard to finish. So was Inferno. This type of storyline has perhaps done its time.. I'll pass on the next ones too.

Very well done. Amazing conclusions

Origin by Dan Brown. Fascinating, riveting, germane, prescient - but surprisingly repetitive, and way too long to the end. Scold the professional editors who should have been tougher. Hope it becomes a movie.

Origin. Very very slow start but the last half of the book was excellent. Would have gotten 5 out of 5 if it was not for such a slow beginning
