Great read. Interesting characters and story line

Anita does it again.. I loved this book. I did not want it to end. I could not wait until I could pick it up and resume reading it. Each character was so beautifully developed. You will want to add this to your library. Great story. I loved her courage.

Fabulous!. Having lived the majority of my life in southern coastal Maine. I heard many people’s tales of this horrific tale. I absolutely loved this story. Definitely first class and a terrific read. I will recommend this book, I throughly enjoyed it and wish it hadn’t ended.

Really a 3.5. This is a good story and I very much liked the female characters, but the last 75 pages are too long without, ironically, enough information. I found myself turning to the end to find out what happens, then backing up to relevant passages. Shreve's ability to create story is unsurpassed- this was just not as tight as some of her other books.

Story of courage and love. I was immersed by the end of the first page. Ms Shreve’s characters are vibrant, her heroine nothing short of selfless and of great courage. A harrowing story line, I felt Grace’s fear, I admired this person so true to life, so determined to provide for and protect her children. I cheered her life changing decision, the end left me wanting to know more about her life.

Love!. I absolutely LOVED this book! I loved the main characters strength and courage. I was so sad it ended!

Met all of my expectations. I have loved Anita Shreve’s books forever, especially the Fortune’s Rocks series. This one is in much the same vein, and I enjoyed it equally.

Emotional journey. I really enjoyed the heart wrenching, uplifting, and difficult book. The bad marriage and the historical fire with an incredibly strong woman weaving her way through it all to find magic in her future. Beautiful story

Beautiful. I honestly wasn’t sure about this book in the beginning, but I was slowly captivated by the characters and the plot.. the twists and turns.. wow.. so sad it’s over
