Use of Force by Brad Thor Book Summary

From the #1 New York Times and #1 Wall Street Journal bestselling author Brad Thor comes “his very best” (The Washington Times) thriller, following covert operative Scot Harvath as he is called upon to stop an ISIS-led plot to destroy the Vatican.

As a storm rages across the Mediterranean Sea, a terrifying distress call is made to the Italian Coast Guard. Days later, a body washes ashore. Identified as a high value but missing terrorism suspect, his name sends panic through the Central Intelligence Agency.

Where was he headed? What was he planning? And could he be connected to the “spectacular attack” they have been fearing all summer? In a race against time, the CIA taps an unorthodox source to get answers: Navy SEAL turned covert counterterrorism operative, Scot Harvath. Hired on a black contract, Harvath provides the deniability the United States needs, while he breaks every rule along the way.

Teeming with fascinating characters and electrifying intrigue, Brad Thor does it again and proves why he is known around-the-world as a master of thrillers.

Good summer read. Action non stop and hard to put down with good story and interesting characters.

Very good. On point with all his books

Better than the last. I have read every one and I periodically check to see when the next book comes out. If you like this storyline there is none better than Brad Thor. Another great read that I couldn't put down. I'm sure that there are real Scott Horvath's and Reed Carlton's out there but sadly too few of them I'm sure. Here it is at 2:00 in the morning and I just finished it!

Brad &a Force Just Go Together. I've always liked Brad Thor novels. This may not be his best, but it is much better than some other writers of CIA type novels. Definitely encourage Brad fans to read it.

Use of force. Good complicated story, but too many people to follow with difficult names. Otherwise, captivating story. Thank you.

Wild Ride!!. The book had me hooked from the start. Great read I highly recommend it.

Would Read Again. Started uniquely and kept me intrigued the entire way through. Never any dull moments. Secondary storyline though was absolutely unnecessary in every aspect. Had nothing to do with primary plot and was pointless. Could’ve saved time writing that and added more to the ending. As an author I don’t think you should squeeze the entire ending of the story in 15 pages when it took 300+ pages to set it up. Axe the secondary plot and add to the ending. Overall a great story and ended pretty well, just would’ve liked for it to be more in depth than it was. I won’t given it a perfect 5 stars, due to lack of understanding of the point of the second plot, but the idea and storyline of plot A was well put together. It was also nice to see Harvath’s humor in this one a bit more. I like that side of him and hope to see more of it in the future! Great Job Thor!

Great fast paced read but a disappointing ending. As always, this Brad Thor book was spot on. As a person who knows much of the terrorism narrative is manufactured by our govt the book was a great read. Disappointed in the abrupt ending but would still recommend.

Excellent Read. Great work as always, waiting on the next one 👍🏻

I hate to do this. Brad Thor is one of my favorite authors and while I enjoyed the book he phoned in the ending. Sort of like he wanted to be done and wrapped things up as fast as he could.

Use of Force. Brad Thor book is the worst ever, and by analogy, he is the worst auther ever - this is perhaps the most boring worthless book I’ve ever tried to read. Using this book as a indication of Thor’s writing, I’ll never buy another of his book; what a fraud

Use of Force. After reading my first Brad Thor book, I am a fan!!! Can't wait to start the next one!!

Fast paced. A typical Brad Thor novel. Enjoyed it, as I did all of the rest.

Not his best.... The book was a quick read, too quick. The ending was disappointing. Waiting for that moment and then having it end so abruptly, left me wanting more. Not a book I'll recommend to friends and family.

So so. No his bestbwprk, not by a long shot

Worst Harvath Ever. I've now read all 16 Scot Harvath novels. Use of Force is easily the worst entry in the entire series. From plot points that don't actually matter, to ridiculously bad pacing in the first third of the book, to an extraordinarily anti-climactic ending there really is nothing to praise in this book. I generally enjoy the series. Even when it's not great it usually has some interesting insights. This one was just the definition of being phoned in. Maybe now that Vince Flynn has passed Thor has slacked off. Hopefully he will try harder next time.

Use of Force. Wonderful read. Enjoyed it immensely.

Dissapointing. Not the best.

Good Addition to Series. 3.5 stars. Use of Force is the seventeenth book in the Scott Harvath series. This can be read as a standalone. But I recommend that you read the entire series so you fully understand the storyline and characters. There is violence. The book blurb adequately describes the storyline so I'm not going to repeat that all of that info here. This book includes not only more of the usual that you get with a Scott Harvath story, but still has some surprising twists and turns. The unfortunate part of being a long running series, is that the storyline gets somewhat repetitive. Will I continue to read future books in the series? I've read all of them so far so of course I will.

Solid, fast-paced story. The story was solid, but a lot of the dialogue was clunky and one-dimensional. Much like vintage Tom Clancy, the best writing is the detail and action and not the human interaction.

Another homerun. Brad Thor never disappoints. He got me back into reading, and I am forever grateful. You will not be disappointed by this book, and it will be a quick read because you won’t want to put it down.

Another hit. Can't wait for what happens next!! Always a can't put it down read.

Use of Force. Brad Thor has written, as always, a thrilling novel which brings forth the realistic dark world of ISIS and the entire terrorist organization. His research and knowledge along with his strict attention to detail are unmatched. His characters are operators that the tactical world can truly identify with. Solid, straight up writing from a true professional! High speed, low drag!

Thor. Bed Thor is one of my favorites. I've read every book to date. While this was a compelling storyline, it's finish was atypical.

Use of Force. Disappointed with ending. Need to develop the story more. Tried to wrap up too quickly to move on to the next project.

Not Brad's Best. I've read all of the previous Harvath books, and this one equals all the others in many ways except one: the ending. It was all relatively immersive until the end, which was gift wrapped and delivered in what seemed like a scant few paragraphs.

Couldn’t wait for it to be over. Boring book. The author lost interest at the end and wanted it to be over as quickly as I did. Thor is off my list along with Patterson

ok. Not as good as previous books. As most of the reviews previously stated, good action, but a ending that seemed phoned in -- like " you have one more day to finish the book before you leave on vacation"

Could be better. This was not Thor's best effort. Ending was kind of abrupt and a sub plot woven into the main plot served little useful purpose. I've come to expect more from this author.

Use of force. As always an on the edge book, toward the end couldn’t put it down. One word for your books awesome

Use of force. Another great novel. This author is the best on military knowledge and describing how a person handles the stress of that type of life.

Another “10 page wrap up”. Yeah, we wrap this up in the last ten pages. Once again. It so had potential. It’s a good story. The second story could have been more fully developed, but it was just kinda there. Moving on to the next one.

Not worth the time. It's like he got to page 762 and said "F it, I'm tired of writing and need to get this thing to printing so I can make my money." The whole climax of the book is told after the fact in a brief chapter without any action or detail. What a waste of time. This'll be the last Thor book I read.

Harvath is Forceful as Ever. I'm a big fan of Brad Thor and his fictional self, Scott Harvath. Having read all 15 of his previous books I had been anxiously awaiting the release of #16, "Use of Force." As always, the plot is timely and brilliant, and during the action scenes, it is truly thrilling but overall, the pacing was off. Maybe it's just me but Scott's pontificating about our government's squishiness (my word, not his) in dealing with terrorists was tiring. He should know he's preaching to the choir. I'm guessing the majority of his loyal readers hold similar views so beating us over the head with it is unnecessary and doesn't need repeating ad infinitum. That said, I really like where he's taking the characters of Lydia Ryan and Reed Carlton, as well as his girlfriend Lara. Now we have to wait another year for #17. FWIW, "Full Black" is still my favorite.

Neatly wrapped ending that came upon the reader too fast.. I could not put this book down! I read it in 2days. I felt my adrenaline rise and fall along with Harvath's. That being said, I found the ending to be anticlimactic! It was over in the blink of an eye. Yes, everything was neatly concluded and I had no questions about the outcome. But it seemed to all happen in 3 pages! Boom, Bang, Done! It certainly will not stop me from reading other books Brad Thor has written.

Clearly Thor was distracted when writing "Use of Force". I have read or listened to every single Brad Thor book and have been a loyal fan since the beginning. It pains me to write this but so much of "Use of Force" is spent describing gun battles, raids, hand to hand combat, the team planning missions and Harvath complaining about politics affecting his ability to do his job. Very little time is spent developing the plot and the new characters. Also, at times it was confusing about what exactly was going on. This was certainly not Thor's best but at least there wasn't a ridiculous worldwide pandemic. I expect that the election and the political landscape in the USA has kept Mr. Thor very busy and obviously a bit distracted from writing another quality Harvath novel. I am very much looking forward to next years Harvath book. Let's hope it's better than "Use of Force."

Use of Force. I have all of his books and this one doesn't fail!! Well done, sir! Keep them coming!!!!!
