The First Shot Book Summary

The First Shot: Book One in The Lieutenant Kane Dedicated to Death Series

For Tampa homicide lieutenant Carl Kane, death is his life. If a single award existed for sinking himself into his work, he’d have two.

But the latest crime scene he’s called to, an old abandoned factory, leaves him with more bodies than leads. Three drug dealers are found shot to death—not an uncommon sight in the least. The problem lies with the pair of middle-aged women—bound, gagged, and executed—found at the same location.

Before he can sink his teeth into the initial investigation, Kane is called out to another multiple homicide. He comes up with only more questions when the second group of murders appears connected to the first.

As the lieutenant tracks down the few leads, he begins to get a clearer picture of those he seeks. That picture quickly turns crystal clear when Kane finds himself face-to-face with someone that “armed and dangerous” doesn’t even begin to describe.

The First Shot - E.H. Reinhard Book Reviews

  • The first shot (nickname5452316)

Very good book for fans on nonstop action and detectives trying to catch up to the bad guys. Hate to think there are too many guys like this bad one! Good characters with a bit of background relationship interaction mixed into the action. Want to read more!
  • Great story (WDW regular)

Very entertaining enjoyed every page. Much of the police procedure was right on but probably boring for someone with no law enforcement experience. After 40 years in two small departments and 34 years in Pennsylvania State Police I know that's just the way it really is!
  • The first shot (u2zoo2)

Focus is on the coordination of police response to multiple killing. If you're old enough to remember "Dragnet" it's like that but without the music to convey atmosphere or emotion. A cerebral recounting.
  • Great (pardini9)

mystery/thriller books are my favorite. This book is one that you will not stop reading until your finished! Cannot wait to read more books by this author.
  • The First Shot (Bookworm Sue)

A very dark story with lots of killing Executions very descriptive! I liked the story, but if you don’t like reading graphic killings and mutilations, don’t read this book.
  • Final Shot (ks cook)

I enjoyed this read a lot, found it sad, exciting and sometimes funny. That’s what a good read should be. I’m really happy that the detectives didn’t try to find a reason for evil, I hate that with a real criminal don’t want it in a book. Looking forward to reading more book by this author, thanks for a good book.
  • The First Shot (efrayjr)

Very well written. Great movement and outstanding job of building the story and all the characters. Fast paced, no downturn in the movement of the plot as characters blend into one another quite smoothly. Will look forward to reading other books within this series.
  • The first shot (HappyGram10)

    Good.
  • The first Shot (see rand)

What a plot! Murder after murder by an evil convict and his band of merry men all while baffling the police in trying to figure out Who what and why. My favorite character was the attack cat. Wanted more of that. I would likely read more of the series but not all at once.
  • The First Shot (Nanjamin)

Boring, same old same old. No excitement!
