Best book I have read in a long while. I have been drawn to Luther since my mother quoted Luther to me many years ago during a difficult time. I have similar spiritual struggles that Luther described and get comfort from the gospel that he discovered through great pain and struggle. This book was very informative on the life of Luther and also spiritually edifying to Christians seeking to grow in their faith in Christ Jesus.

Metaxas the Masterful. Having read Eric’s rather dense and behemoth undertaking, Bonhoeffer, I was similarly intimidated at first glance by the length of this book knowing that Metaxas has a way of jamming every page with insight, wit and excellent factoids. At times in the past Metaxas biographies could prove to be so voluminous and painstakingly detailed to the point of exhaustion for this uneducated laymen. However, I found this biography gripping from beginning to end, so much so that this surprisingly became the longest book I have sat down and read cover to cover other than the Bible and I did so in just 3 days. I couldn’t put it down. Thank you to the author for a masterfully written book. I pray that to whomever would be the subject of the next work is as worthy as the one doing the writing. I will continue to buy many of the books written by Mr. Metaxas. It’s very refreshing to hear his measured insight in the world of history and religion.
