The Disappearance of Lady Edith by Christina McKnight Book Summary

One tragic night changed sensible, proper Lady Edith Pelton’s life: when her best friend fell to her death, pushed down a flight of stairs by a nefarious lord.  Now, Edith dedicates her time to watching the man she thinks is responsible, while gathering information to expose other scoundrels posing as gentlemen of honor about London. When her spying is noticed by a perfect stranger, Edith finds herself with two mysteries—what happened to her friend, and how to win the heart of this brilliantly handsome lord.

Triston Neville, Viscount Torrington, has been tasked with two duties for the upcoming Season: see that his sisters make the most of their debut, and avoid embroiling himself in another scandal. What he does not expect is the captivating, fair-haired beauty that literally falls into his path. When the mysterious Lady Edith suddenly disappears without a trace, Triston fears his past misdeeds may have returned to destroy his life once more.

Can Triston piece together the puzzle in time to save Edith and prove that his love is nothing less than honorable?

Decent story, meh characters. Typical impoverished noble looking for wealthy wife. Will they get together for love or money? Characters lacking fire, a bit vanilla

The Disappearance of Lady Edith. Loads of fun! A little bit of everything for a good romantic romp!

2.5 stars. The story and characters need developing. It reads more like a novella imo. But it’s not terrible. Just feel like it needs fleshing out. My biggest issue is that there were certain writing peeves that distracted me from the story. Examples: Lady tilda Abercorn —> her grace Tilda…. A duchess is always “her grace” not “lady…” Could NOT care less. This was used incorrectly twice. Marquis —> marquess. Most British marquesses are marquess unless they are Scottish. Just use marquess. Pockets on a dress in 1800s? “Needs must”. OMG. This one drove me crazy. Was the author trying to make it sound old? Well, it didn’t work as a hat was the only “old way” of writing. It was so distracting. Just in general, it needs major editing and development. Oh. And Google. Google is your friend.

Mystery. It begins with a tragedy. On the night of her wedding, Lady Tilda falls or is pushed down the stairs to her death. Her new husband, the Duke of Abercorn, doesn’t seem to be terribly upset about it. Even though they have not been able to prove the Duke is responsible for her death, Tilda’s closest friends, Ladies Edith, Luci, and Ophelia are determined to find the evidence they need to prove his guilt. We next see the friends in London about a year later. The girls are still trying to prove Abercorn is guilty of Tildas death, but they have branched out to warn London’s ladies about unscrupulous men through a column in the newspaper. Edith, although she is the most skeptical of the three, is best at investigating and gathering clues. She and Tristan meet when he catches her in a tree spying on Abercorn. They continue to run into each other, and the result is hilarious, until Edith is kidnapped. Now Tristan and the ladies join forces to find and rescue Edith. This is a story that holds your interest from the prologue right through to the epilogue. It is a fast paced plat with a number of twists, turns, and surprises. It is the first in the Undaunted Debutants series centered around the three ladies trying to solve their friend’s murder. Tristan and Edith are wonderful together. Luci and Ophelia are tough and determined. You will love meeting Tristan’s sisters, Pru and Chastity. It will be interesting to see what kind of adventures are ahead for Luci and Ophelia.

4 stars. Good read.

Wrong book?. Downloaded this book expecting to read something based off the description and another one of her books was behind the title and cover instead. super weird. called a lord of her own and not the book I had downloaded.

Wrong book. Although it wasn’t the book I wanted to read, it was not bad.

The description and title have nothing to do with the actual book received. The downloaded book is not the disappearance of Edith. Major mixup. And whatever book this is, it is not worth reading. Don’t waste your money.

Not the book downloaded. I have no idea why, but the book I read was not at all the description. It was about a Lady Godiva, and not Lady Edith. This needs to be looked into because other people have also pointed out it’s the incorrect book behind the cover. While the book I read was ok, I was really looking forward to reading what the synopsis said. Pls fix!!!!!

The Disappearance Of Lady Edith. I would consider this more of a mystery/suspense book than romance. No steam and as far as romantic relations between Edith and Tristan go there were maybe 3 kisses. Still it was a pretty interesting book I just wouldn’t consider it romance.

Wonderful!. First off, the cover is beautiful and invites the reader to open the book. Secondly, the prologue drew me right in. What really happened to Tilda? Why wasn't her new husband more distressed at seeing the state of his new bride? What are Edith, Luci and Ophelia going to do? Fast forward nearly a year and Triston and Edith have their first meeting. Sparks flew from that moment. I enjoyed each of their meetings, their escapades and their good hearts. There were some interesting twists and turns in the story that kept me reading until the end. There are many more stories to be written about the wonderful characters introduced in this book. Also, the mystery from the prologue has still not been resolved. I look forward to reading those books as it will be fun to see what Luci and Ophelia are up to next. I always enjoy Ms. McKnight's book and this one was as good as all of her others. I encourage you to read and enjoy it.

Wonderful. The story was interesting.

1The disappearance of lady Edith. I loved it!! Something new and entertaining

Happy ever after. This is a simple but well written story. The plot is far fetched but nevertheless it holds your attention ad has a happy ever after end.

Unbelievable. If you suspend disbelief this is an enjoyable romp. Though I must admit it is not easy to believe that a gently reared (and one would have thought, closely chaperoned) young lady would have been able to get up to the things Lady Edith did. Spying on men, contributing to a gossip column, deceiving her parents, climbing trees in London, searching an Inn in a criminal area and never a concern about being ruined, or worse. I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.

The disappearance of lady Edith ?. I have no idea who lady Edith is or was as no one with that name was ever mentioned in the entire story which was a complete mash
