“A captivating family saga.”—The New York Times Book Review

“This literary family saga is perfect for fans of Celeste Ng and Donna Tartt.”—People Magazine (Book of the Week)

If you knew the date of your death, how would you live your life?

It's 1969 in New York City's Lower East Side, and word has spread of the arrival of a mystical woman, a traveling psychic who claims to be able to tell anyone the day they will die. The Gold children—four adolescents on the cusp of self-awareness—sneak out to hear their fortunes.

The prophecies inform their next five decades. Golden-boy Simon escapes to the West Coast, searching for love in '80s San Francisco; dreamy Klara becomes a Las Vegas magician, obsessed with blurring reality and fantasy; eldest son Daniel seeks security as an army doctor post-9/11; and bookish Varya throws herself into longevity research, where she tests the boundary between science and immortality.

A sweeping novel of remarkable ambition and depth, The Immortalists probes the line between destiny and choice, reality and illusion, this world and the next. It is a deeply moving testament to the power of story, the nature of belief, and the unrelenting pull of familial bonds.

Great novel. For all those million people who seek their fate in fortune telling

Good book. First 2 parts I genuinely loved but as the story went on started to lose that flair. Still a great read with some great moments.

The Immortalists. Superb book!! What a find in a discounted book section!!

Loved it!. purchased this book at random shortly after it came out and started creating buzz. I’m so glad that I did! It is a very inspiring story that basically anyone on earth could identify with one way or another. Sometimes books come along your path at a certain time in your life for a message you need to read or hear. They come as signs that fate and the universe are working WITH you. This book did that for me. This book includes SUCH rich character details and really adds to the depth of the story. The author did such a fabulous job (so much so that halfway through reading the book, I googled the author to find more books written by them!!!) The Immoralists tackles issues such as the fine line between destiny and freedom of choice, reality and illusions, this world or the next. It is a deeply moving testament to the long familiarity of the family bonds that we all have experienced, good or bad.

Loved this. Great book, something different than I usually read. Very interesting

Disappointing ending. As many others have stated, I was instantly captivated in the first two-thirds is the book. But the ending/resolution was anti-climatic to say the least. All in all, it was pretty boring. Not sure that I’d recommend it

Disappointing (spoilers). Great premise but poorly executed. A definite lack of character development - especially for David and Varya - and the descent into mental illness for some of the siblings was odd. The FBI search for the gypsies was just random. Most of all I wish I had some warning about the grotesque story line on animal testing in the Varya section.

The Immortalists. I really wanted to like this book, but didn’t.

The Immortalists. Interesting premise but for me it started off captivating...as the book continued after the three siblings met their fate it became more and more boring and couldn’t wait to finish...

The immortalists. I found this to be a depressing book and stopped reading it after Klara’s story., the topic is unique but the story line outcome is predictable.

Must read. Very cool, interesting, factual, magical.

Just okay. There were interesting parts but overall it just didn’t come together. The whole premise of the Gypsy predicting dates of death for the four sibs felt contrived and a little silly.

Mesmerizing. Deeply relatable characters set in a meaningful time and space — all at once entertaining, thought provoking and heartbreaking. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Highly recommended!

Predictable. Simon and Clara are the only two stories worth reading. It’s a dismal, predictable, unlikely in many parts and definitely not a page turner

Didn’t want it to end!. I throughly enjoyed this book and the emotional journey it took me on. The characters were well developed, it will be a great book club discussion!

Family Relationships. The depth to which this author explores family relationships is moving, to say the least. It motivated me to call a petulant brother, who was refusing to return my belated call to him...long story! Benjamin's extent of research to make this fiction authentic is admirable.

The Strangest Book I’ve Read All Year. If the reader’s desire is to read something unlike anything else, with rich characters in bazaar life-scenarios, this is a very well written and intriguing read. The characters are complex, and all seem to have been tragically scarred by the words of a gypsy fortune teller they visit as young siblings. The dysfunction each character exhibits is much greater than the fateful prophecy portents, and I wanted something else to justify the downward spiral of each sibling. I did consider not finishing it at times, but stuck with it to see how characters would resolve their trauma. Very unusual settings, scenarios and outcome. If you want something cheerful and uplifting this is not that. But again, well written and developed. Just very very strange.

Very disappointing.. The worst book I have read in a long time. Not sure how it got so many good reviews. Don’t waste your money.

Trite. Not a winner. Very trite stories. Why all the hype?

Powerful. This story was insanely captivating. It was dark but ultimately left me happy to have gained such powerful insight. I can’t stop thinking about this book, and I think The Immortalists will be moving high on my list of favorites.

A story that is truly immortal. Haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since I’ve read it. A beautiful read.

Loved this book!. I’m just getting into reading as I’ve never been able to keep my attention long enough to finish a book. With that said, I’m extremely picky. I LOVED this book. It was cleverly written, it’s easy to read, and kept my interest throughout. I highly recommend this book!

Favorite. This is my favorite books of all time. Such a good story, always recommend.

Ok book. Hard to embrace each character and the end was scattered. I was flipping pages to get through it so I could finish.

The Immortalists. Good read, if you believe there are people who can tell fortunes, start reading, suspenseful and heart warming.

The Immortalists. There is a lot of good solid advice in this book peppered between the facts and the fiction of this novel. It makes you think long after reading it "What would my life be like in similar circumstances ?" I've never read a book like this story to compare it to, and I read a lot of books. I really enjoyed this one . It was suspenseful and kept me guessing. A real page turner.

Wonderful book. I savored this lush book. Each character felt like a mini life lesson on how your thinking changes your fate yet the author wants to save room for magic. I really really didn’t want the book to end. A heartfelt thank you.

Page turner. Eye opening, thought provoking and extremely well written. Was extremely sad to see it come to an end.
